Reading a few of these, I've suddenly realized how shitty light novels are. Like, even removing the cliches, the prose and dialogue sound so wooden that it's hard to even take it seriously.

Not to mention all of them have the hero reincarnate into a generic fantasy world a la Dragon Quest or some shit. What about reincarnating into a western world? Or a sci-fi dystopia?

There is also the fact that these are translated by amateurs, many of which has a very shaky grasp of both English and Japanese. I'm not saying that the originals are literary masterpieces, but I don't think that the translations do them justice in any case. Yeah, I do wish that Remix Heart had lasted longer. Still, 4 volumes isn't that short and to be honest I think that a manga being shorter does have the advantage that certain aspects of the story can progress faster. And I guess that the MC of Kashimashi sort of goes with the flow, though she had been pretty feminine to begin with so you can hardly tell that she had switched sex. As for trying to adapt but not always succeeding, Mai does initially wish to become a boy again but she does consciously try to pass for a normal girl as she is concealing her identity from everyone around her. As a result she tries to imitate both the speech and behavior of girls. Her circumstances actually resemble those of traps trying to pass for girls as in Otoboku for example.
