In genderbender series do you prefer it for the MC to turn into a loli or into a voluptuous girl?
Ether, as long as there is a physical change I'm diamonds.
Agreed. Better for the character to turn into a voluptuous girl since a very feminine appearance is best for a genderbent character.
>tfw new chapter translations never
This. Personally I'd want tits to play with. That's like half the reason I'd fantasize about getting gender bender.
Big breasts are great, but I respect all sizes. I could even see smaller ones being fun. Like the size of them in Goku Girl
They should look like a female version of their older selves. If the guy was a shota, turn to loli. If he was a handsome guy, voluptuous girl. if he was androgynous, small tits+birthing hips; if he was a mountain of muscles, muscle girl.
I think the opposite might be better
>Shota turned into voluptuous girl but doesn't know anything about being one.
>adult turned into loli but still has the mind of an adult.
Hmm either is good.
>pedo bait or slut
No thanks. I'll have my MC turn into a pure and modest girl please
As a side note I love it when they try on outfits, especially against their will.
This series is great. Anyone know if it's gonna continue?
god damn man why do clothes look so nice in 2d but awful in 3d?
tunics look like shit, camisoles look like shit and literally nobody can pull off bunnygirl but this anime >girl has it perfect
what's the trick?
Hey anyone have a favorite gender bender manga/anime? I've been looking for ones I haven't seen.
Even if it's something like MtF Body Swap instead of a transformation
Remix Heart is my favorite. Mai is a wonderful girl. (And I though that it did a good job covering Mai's adaptation to being a girl and I also liked the fact that Mai seriously grappled with the consequences of her transformation to her personal identity.)
What's the point of seeking out genderbender specifically then? Why not go for normal yuri?
Half the fun is seeing her fighting her newly acquired female instincts and desires.
I think it's more interesting if the character is mentally affected by the transformation instead of them simply treating it as a disguise. A change in sexual preferences is a good way to illustrate that and one that is more clear-cut compared to stuff that could be chalked up to nurture rather than nature; e.g. having the character start crying more easily or suddenly taking a liking to pretty dresses (which are things I've seen in genderbender stories).
The raw is out for that:
>What's the point of seeking out genderbender specifically then? Why not go for normal yuri?
Because you like the fantasy of becoming a girl and having a lesbian relationship?
>Half the fun is seeing her fighting her newly acquired female instincts and desires.
I don't see the fun in that, but it's very hot in porn.
I think both ways can make for good gender bender. But I personally I think the less mental change the better. Part of the fun for me is seeing how a guys brain copes with a woman's body.
Riko in to To Love Ru is a good example of what I mean. Speaking of which thank you for that I had no idea. You are a god.
>If the guy was a shota, turn to loli. If he was a handsome guy, voluptuous girl. if he was androgynous, small tits+birthing hips; if he was a mountain of muscles, muscle girl.
This. I don't really like it when they practically turn into a different person entirely.
I mean, they don't have to look alike. But I like the idea of being able to tell that they can actually have been the same person.
That series started out as an LN trilogy whose title is Mezameru to Itoko wo Mamoru Bishoujo Kenshi ni Natteita (After Waking Up I Became My Cousin's Beautiful Guardian Swordswoman). It also got an eroge end eromanga adaptation. There was also a 4th LN with a different set of characters.
The MC becomes a swordswoman whose mission is to protect her cousin, who she's in love with, from demons. She's not very good at it though and tends to get defeated and raped. In the nukige she gets raped by female classmates, male classmates, strangers on the street, a futa, demons and tentacle monsters. It has multiple mindbreak endings but no translation. From what I can gather the LNs have less rape, no mindbreak and a good end.
That image is from an LN, but here's the nukige adaptation of the first LN:
Here's the gallery of the nukige:
Good end: Switches back and fucks his cousin that he's in love with. (Though the scene at the end shows that he keeps switching forms.)
Bad ends: Gets mindbroken by demons and is used as their cumdumpster/human urinal.
>A cup has all ugly women
>C cup are all shitholes(Yes, Canada and Aussieland are shit due to laws and shit internet)
>D cup and larger than D cup are too big
Guess I'll have to go with B and live in New Zealand or Greenland
Fair enough. Everyone has different preferences after all. I like it more if the character's mind gradually changes to fit their body instead of staying the same. Though I wouldn't consider TLR a good example either way, since the MC rarely turns into a girl and doesn't explore living as a girl much.
By the way, apparently Riko can be turned hetero. If one is lucky enough, it is possible to win Riko's heart according to this official To Love Ru guide:
>Since she's actually a man inside, capturing her will be extremely difficult. However, if you get to help her when she's really troubled, maybe...!?
I agree that they should look similar to an extent, but I think that it's boring if they're too similar (as in e.g. Boku Girl). Better if the two forms to resemble siblings for example.
a few years ago i bought the LN's thinking they were hentai mangas. so, now i have all the LN's. The art is good, but I'd rather have this http://exhentai.org/g/578279/ae61b67e77/
I'm surprised this hasn't been translated yet.
I would like to be a voluptuous girl. There's a VR suit being designed, so probably 10 to 20 years people will be able to know what it feels like to be in another genders body. You can even be in an anime girls body. Too bad I was born too soon.
I have a gender bendig fetish and I don'tem want to be a girl. I'm starting to feel like the odd one.
I guess you should be happy, since practically every genderbender story has the MC transforming against their will. It gives the story the protagonist something to grapple with, as well as a possible goal in trying to reverse the transformation.
I didn't like the fact that the characters in had such difficulty in adjusting to living as the opposite sex even though they had spent years that way thanks to the timeskip and despite having changed while they were still children; i.e. before establishing a firm gender identity. Also it has been pretty slow overall. Though it does seem to be heading in the right direction.
I think that genderbending where the character keeps their dick kind of defeats the point of the exercise.
>In genderbender series do you prefer it for the MC to turn into a loli or into a voluptuous girl?
Id prefer for one of the MCs shota friends to turn into a voluptuous girl and then have him romantically court her.
>tfw aside from the 15-min long TLRD OVA, there will more than likely be no genderbending anime this year
>Only notable manga is Boku Girl (which I'm not that much a fan of) and Ame Nochi Hare (which NEVER FUCKING UPDATES what the hell it already ended)
>tfw there will never be a TG anime/manga where not only does the protagonist's gender change, but so does reality so as far as the whole world is concerned, he was born a girl, and he goes into a whole "It's a Wonderful Life" spiel
Why not both, like the one in Twintails?
Has a flat form and a big breasted form.
The author ran out of ideas and threw in robot exsuits, magical girls and anything else he could think of. Ending it soon after was for the best.
Quite a few genderbender manga are only partially translated. That is the fate of manga with low popularity.
Agreed. Whats the point in a genderbender if they might as well be a different character?
This is the same for me and I realized its because I just have a fetish for girls being mindbroken and gender bender is the most reliable tag for showing the mental process in detail
While I was reading http://exhentai.org/g/887392/e7b477447f/ I realized I related more to the ugly guy that managed to create his own fuckbuddy waifu from scratch than the girl.
Turning into a similar body type that becomes more feminine is generally the easiest way and enjoyable way to do it. But, loli gender bending is actually fun
and the only way I can fap to loli.I'd say loli gender bending is better because not just is there the constant identity crisis, there is also the fact the person will become childish from being in child's body, making it more fun
I've been meaning to ask for a while, but why exactly do you tripfag? You are pretty much the only tripfag I'm ok with, as you only trip in genderbender shit and aren't an annoying ego faggot. But for what purpose is it all for?
It depends on the genre.
If it's one of those "Oh no I turned into a girl so I must suck ALL THE COCKS" then it's fitting for him to become a voluptuous girl.
If it's a non-h centered around life as a girl, then I prefer loli. There's not only the aspect of adapting to being another gender, but seeing confused lolis is always cute, and you get to watch them face the possibility of growing up as a girl
like I never could ;_;
Personally I don't like loli genderbending as much because in a more serious story the character is likely to end up surrounded by children (like in Ichinensei ni Nacchattara), who can't be very interesting as characters. Also I don't really care for their physique.
PS: One reason is it makes it easier for me to find previous posts.
Well, I did say loli bending is more fun. It's much harder to do it seriously, but it does add another layer of identity crisis. But, as you said, it has the problem of mostly revolving around children, which, unless its incredibly lighthearted sol or a comedy, its pretty boring
That's not a reason to trip you fucking faggot. But I'll let it past because you aren't annoying and only trip when its related to this
Tripfagging without a decent reason or contributing is just plain attention whoring. I don't actually have anything against him and personally actually like him a little, I just don't think he should be tripping. He is still leagues above the other tripfags and he has good taste as well
I don't really mind him tripfagging because he's been very helpful to me in the past whenever I've had questions about gender bender manga or VNs.
So in a way, it's kinda nice to know he's around so I can ask questions, so I don't mind the trip at all.
Well I did say I liked him a little. He's not a faggot, he has good taste, he doesn't shitpost and he's reasonable. The fact he spoonfeeds even some really stupid people bothers me a little, I'm not going to pick on him because I've actually added some of those suggestions to my backlog and he promotes good taste. He's just someone spreading his love for a genre, which I'm ok with. He's pretty much comparable to Daiz. He's a giant piece of shit who should kill himself for tripping his posts, but when it's about encoding, I actually like the trip because he knows what he's doing and promotes actual good encoding and actively encourages improvement for it.
You need to improve your mind reading skills, dude.
I was just making a joke. I was under the impression that similar jokes are used here quite frequently but it seems I'm wrong since you, as a tripfag, don't recognize them.
I prefer them to stay boyish and confused about the whole situation.
Deviants and whores are trash, and men that immediately decide to become deviant whores when given the opportunity are worse than trash. They're straight garbage.
Either is fine, but I somewhat prefer voluptuous because I like breasts. Seeing guy get turned into loli and the grow from there through further magic or just mundane time passage is great too.
Surely such a thing must come with a cost. Would you really want to be like tailred and be sexualized by thousands of freaks that project their fetish on you?
May as well be rhetorical. I know you guys would in heartbeat
I take it this is your favorite one from the series?
>Would you really want to be like tailred and be sexualized by thousands of freaks that project their fetish on you?
All other things aside, somebody being blatantly and unwillingly viewed as nothing but a sex object is super hot.
I suppose that if I had to choose a favorite I'd go with Yuno. Though to be honest I didn't like Ore Twintail. It was a harem/tokusatsu parody that gradually turned into a harem/tokusatsu. Neither are genres I like. Also the MC was a standard ultra-dense harem MC that every girl wants to fuck without him realizing it. The only thing setting him apart is a twintail fixation (a hairstyle I don't actually like). And as far as genderbending goes, there is little of it outside of combat and the way everyone worships the MC's female form is pretty over the top.
By the way, someone had posted a list of at least partially translated reincarnation stories that people might be interested in: >>135792763
I searched for and found links to the translations:
Depends on the nature and aftermath of the split.
Funny that you mention that, I'm working on a story with a similar premise (a combination of clones, shared consciousness, and selfcest).
Depends on the author but webnovels attract machine translators who generally don't know the grammar or colloquialisms enough to be doing so at all. Don't count on them getting the prose right or being anything more than maybe 90% accurate at best. Kanji's only one part of the challenge and that's easily overcome with the right dictionary program.
Incidentally, you might want to add Lady!? Steady, GO!!! to that long gender bender lookout list of yours if you haven't. Only skimmed through a bit so far but it is a gender bender series.
You has problems.
Why I have to share my fetish with people who hate their sex? I am literally fapping to their dreams, and they always make unfunny or dramatic stories that aren'tem suitable to fap.
What? And have an extra mouth to feed who's going to laze around in my shit apartment all day as well?
Holy shit. Please fucking no. I've had enough trouble with my actual lazyass little sister, I don't need another one who has my horrible personality.
That went in a direction I wasn't expecting.
kek I made one as well
gonna be useful
I am a bit harsh on it because I'm tired if wading through it when I'm not looking for it (but if I am looking for it, it's plentiful). Separating the tags would solve all my issues.
Reading a few of these, I've suddenly realized how shitty light novels are. Like, even removing the cliches, the prose and dialogue sound so wooden that it's hard to even take it seriously.
Not to mention all of them have the hero reincarnate into a generic fantasy world a la Dragon Quest or some shit. What about reincarnating into a western world? Or a sci-fi dystopia?
It almost makes me want to write a light novel of my own, because I can write even a reincarnation story better than these guys.
Valid point. From the few light novels I've actually read (Log Horizon, et al) the writing style is a mite bit better. Still, we got SAO and Asterisk as legitimate light novels, so yeah.
Also, I guess The Martian is also in the same boat. At least the movie was good.
Either is fine I just want to see how the character reacts and behaves. I mostly just don't like the super short one shots or the super long comedy series where a character becomes a genderbent for a day.
There is also the fact that these are translated by amateurs, many of which has a very shaky grasp of both English and Japanese. I'm not saying that the originals are literary masterpieces, but I don't think that the translations do them justice in any case. In comparison, manga have the advantage of having less text and relying more on images rather than text, so it's easier to overlook a poor translation.
Yeah, I do wish that Remix Heart had lasted longer. Still, 4 volumes isn't that short and to be honest I think that a manga being shorter does have the advantage that certain aspects of the story can progress faster. For example I liked the fact that Mai went from starting to fall in love to recognizing and accepting her feelings in less than 6 chapters. Boku Girl for example has been stuck in the denial phase for over 90 chapters and is still going strong.
I kinda want a manga where the main character accepts their change rather quickly and is actively trying to adapt, but finds that it isn't as easy as it might seem.
It'd be nice if they had a hard time fitting and didn't just go "BUT I'M A GUY" every single fucking time.
You mean characters that want to change sex and live like girls? In A World Without Boundaries the MC's cousin is happy to be a girl. And I guess that the MC of Kashimashi sort of goes with the flow, though she had been pretty feminine to begin with so you can hardly tell that she had switched sex. The MC of Mao Marimo also seems to go along with it.
As for trying to adapt but not always succeeding, Mai does initially wish to become a boy again but she does consciously try to pass for a normal girl as she is concealing her identity from everyone around her. As a result she tries to imitate both the speech and behavior of girls. Her circumstances actually resemble those of traps trying to pass for girls as in Otoboku for example.
What are some good series with female to male genderbends?
Most permanent transformations are against the protagonist's will. As a result the characters try to cling to their previous identity and are resistant to the idea that they should self-identify as girls. By the way, this is taken to a ridiculous extreme in Kakumen no Hi, where the MC's parents literally guilt-trip him into agreeing to have a sex-change operation so that he can still pull the "I'm really a guy" afterward.
The only series I can think of where a character chooses and wants to be a girl are A World Without Boundaries and Strange Mansion.
Reminds me of the plot of Chu Shite Agechau, whose MC has a medical condition that will turn him into a girl if he doesn't have enough sex with women. You can choose not to have sex with them in order to trigger the transformation.
half aroused, half upset
>if you become the little girl you can't resist
I've wanted to play more GB visual novels, but I haven't been able to find a good site to download then at.
I've got some, but the lesser known or not as popular ones seem impossible to find.
I think I'd make a pretty cool dad. The only problem is that I won't impregnate anyone and I doubt I could adopt someone (guy living alone).
But I'd love to be a parent, I think everyone would, really, specially since it's a loli version of you, so you don't actually have to raise a baby.
I really liked this:
In addition, Ai Mai Mist was surprisingly decent. Yumekoi Tensei was pretty good. Sekai wo Seifuku Suru Tame no 3tsu no Houhou was fairly good too.
I really like manga that go a more "realistic" route.
Just finished reading this, I don't know how to feel about it in the end. The ending and last arc was kinda satisfying I guess but also kinda sad somehow.
Does the anime live up to the manga?
>Riko can be turned hetero.
She's not even real in an unreal universe anon.
I wonder if they'd ever make a To Love Ru game where you play as another man? Probably not, it'd just be a game of cucking.
This was a neat TG cuz his best friend turned into a chick instead of it being the MC iirc
I don't think that what's in Muv Luv (or Steins;Gate) counts as genderbending. In both cases you have two parallel universes where one of the side-characters' sex is different. Both versions of the character have always been of that sex. There is no change from the perspective of those characters.
Might as well paste these I guess:
Blazblue Remix Heart:
Sai Taker - Futari no Artemis:
>mfw this thread has been up for an entire two days
Never change /a/
It stars an insane girl that thinks she's a man trapped in a girl's body. I don't consider it worth reading anyway to be honest. But I didn't like Aku no Hana either and there are people that swear by it.
I enjoyed translating that line, too. :^)
She's constantly speaking in an aggressive tone, even after she's concluded that she's better off not pissing them off. Love that lack of self awareness.
Also never stops using 'ore' to refer to him/herself, even at the very end. Gap moe in full effect here.
Doesn't even think ahead, either. Even if he changed back, what in the world gives him the impression he could beat them up two-on-one? Guy's totally full of himself, or delusional. Or both.
Would love to see a version of this scenario where the guy isn't a complete idiot. The contrast would be immense.
Might do Himeno Mikan's genderswap story later. First two chapters of this tank (the first of which sensualaoi did a joke half-translation half-rewrite of):
Neverland Alter is apparently a guy in a girl avatar for some VR game world being punished for attempted hacking:
Btw, in case anyone here missed it, TS Panic is a more lighthearted take and serves as adequate mind bleach if you didn't like the suffering in Tsuitenai Shoujo (but is still pretty rape-y, par for the course here I guess):
But yeah, like I said, pretty much starved for loli genderswap stuff. Most of the rest is just either Tail Red or body swaps or swaps of established characters, which generally means ignoring most of the exploration of what the swap actually entails.
I generally prefer stuff that actually explores the societal reaction and reintegration part. The 'WTF?' reaction from everyone involved is a big part of the appeal for me.
Having big boobs would be too uncomfortable after a lifetime of flatness.
ore, twintail ni narimasu is a recent one
Fuck, I wish they'd pull their heads out of their asses and just translate Youjo already.
>will never be a girl for a day and experience that lesbian 69
they look so comfy
yeah I felt pretty betrayed when they more or less abandoned any of the gender bender stuff with it rarely being a plot point
and even moreso when it should have finished after the first set of witches had been all discovered so they made a second set to replace. Should have ended then and there.
pet peeves with manga tagging
>gender bender when it's crossdressing
>gender bender when it's one chapter only
>gender bender when it's one chapter and a very side character
please, It doesn't make it any easier to find the real shit when people pull this shit
Agreed. I think the problem with Yamada was that it got too popular for its own good. The series was obviously meant to end when they performed the magical ceremony to eliminate the witches, but it sold well enough that the author pulled a new storyline out of her ass to keep it going. Same problem as with Fist of the North Star for example which in its second storyline had the protagonist fighting the against the twin brother of the villain of the original story who was even more evil and powerful that the original and in control of an empire of superpowerful evil martial artists. I dropped Yamada after there were suddenly even more witches.
>character just gets turned right at the end to 'teach him a lesson' and it's just his face as a female looking shocked
>You will never be molested by by your best friend, Gay Kamina
If I might do a suggestion, there are still a few Ruuen Rouga stories that haven't been touched yet.
The one with the Knight will probably get picked up by whoever translated the first one but that still leaves
Maru Sankaku Shikaku and Trance-Trance (which, IIRC; hasn't had all chapters translated, whoever did the first one seems to have dropped it)
>Guy gets mindbroken in virtual reality through impregnation rape
>Wants to become a girl so he can get pregnant
>The story is about him investigating together with his rapists how to turn into a girl
>Artwork is like this
The perfect combination of fetishes for me, plus a plot. Now, if only Ruuen Rouga would draw faster...
I've kept up with it. Not sure why at times. The story gets even worse towards the middle of the second arc. Not to mention, it seemed like there were some plot points hinted at, but never brought up or elaborated on.
The third arc is starting now. So far, I'm more interested in it than the second one, but there's only been a few chapters.
>Not getting off to the idea of an onee-sama accidentally turning you into a lesbian but she's not a lesbian herself, and then you turn her into a lesbian
I agree it would have been nice if there was more of the manga. Have you watched the following by the way? They are two side-stories that take place between chapters 4 and 5 of the Remix Heart manga:
It's pretty similar in tone to the early parts of the manga, which makes sense since it's by the same people, before Mai got used to being a girl. I think they're worth watching if you enjoyed the manga. One also gets to hear Mai's voice (as provided by Hayami Saori).
>One also gets to hear Mai's voice (as provided by Hayami Saori).
The English voice wasn't too bad either.
I believe I said this last thread but the English one sounds more tomboyish while the Japanese feels neutral "girl-ish". You can kinda get a feeling of the voice actor trying to play up the whole "trying to sound like a normal girl" a thing but there being something slightly off in the intonation (trying a bit too hard).
I don't remember right now though if the inner monologue was dubbed in English.
>I don't understand that development
What part of it?
>Oujo a best.
>Now, if only Ruuen Rouga would draw faster...
I think Farfalla doesn't really have much more room for character development at this point.
I like the new story with the Knight's captain, he just released the second chapter and it just looks amazing in the way it sets up the third chapter.
Now if people would just translate the other stories that remain untranslated to this date (to some degree even the non-genderbender ones even though I prefer his genderbender stuff)
Forgot my picture.
I'll only post until it gets lewd.
You can find it at your usual eromanga provider.
>She starts lewd.
I like bellies but I don't consider them lewd by themselves.
Fun fact: according to the author the story takes place in the same universe as his other fantasy stories.
From a Drop of Alchemy, one of his oldest works (and one of the first to be translated into English). I think it's from the early 00s?
tldr: (male) Apprentice to a mage is forced to exhange his body with that of a female golem and work as a servant/maid before he is allowed to actually learn significant amounts of magic.
Shaenanigans (seuxal or not) ensue.
Yeah, and as we had said, in this web radio episode about Mai, Sugita said that Mai's voice sounded similar to that of a boy, though Hayami Saori said that she tried to make Mai sound more like a girl than a boy:
Mai's inner monologues weren't voiced either in Japanese or English.
>that takes me back
IIRC someone reuploaded it recently with better quality (though it may have been just a regular reuploard).
One of the earliest works that got me into the fetish (outside of stuff like Ranma and its doujins).
Yeah, it's really in that limit/boundary.
Admittedly I am not fluent at moon so I am not sure if this is my own misperception or if Sugita had a bit of a bias going on as he knew the secret behind Mai.
Also, I still giggle like an idiot at the section where they get up in arms about "Mai is NOT a trap"
>But is there a name to google search?
Feel free to reread my post, this time applying reading comprehension, I am not going to repeat myself
It is rather annoying when people confuse the two. It makes finding stuff more difficult and on /a/ you can have trap fans come into genderbending threads and derail them.
Blame mangaupdates and similar sites, they use genderbending as a "mother tag" - meaning that all things related to crossdressing, futa, transgender (magical/sci-fi) or transsexuals (realistic with transitioning) gets all thrown together.
This isn't completely unreasonable/illogical to do but pretty much the rest of the internet (pixiv, sadpanda, 4chan, most actual scanlators who do the damn work of the translations) do actually distinguish between those categories leaving those mangareading sites in the minority of how they categorize that stuff.
Am I reading this right?
>A guy so cute you'd assume he's a girl.
>Someone who while still feeling that she's a guy at heart has been transformed into a female body
Oh god, yes, please. Especially now that the game is on PC.
>Traps also often involve crossdressing, but yes
I meant the moonrunes in the picture. That's (apparently) the Japanese definition and I think it fits, you have characters like Hideyoshi who fit the description even while dressed as guy/not crossdressing.
>Genderbender also often include bodyswaps and possession.
Most Japanese sites disagree on that and a lot of sites like sadpanda have started making a distinction in that regard - which you may or not disagree with though I don't find it completely unreasonable I think it should feature both unless they start also distinguishing between Rule63 doujins and actual genderbender doujins (though sometimes both apply, Kyonko certainly has both varieties)
>I'm a beliver in the conservation of mass, so it depends on how much of a skinny manlet the subject is.
So tiny penis = flatchested?
Bridget actually got second place when ArcSys ran a poll on who the next playable character should be, so he is still very popular. And in a popularity poll for male characters he had actually gotten 2nd place after Sol. It seems likely that they'll add him again. Zappa got 10th place so don't hold your breath.
Yeah, that's pretty much it. The problem is that the terms used in Japan and in the English fandom have slightly different meanings. "Otokonoko" simply means boy that looks like a girl. It doesn't carry the baggage that "trap" has about having to deceive the viewer into thinking that the character is a girl. Hideyoshi has no problem fitting the definition of otokonoko even if he dresses like a boy.

Yeah it's a pain to search doujin sites since I really don't like mind swaps/possessions.

Trap is just a really dumb term.
>has about having to deceive the viewer into thinking that the character is a girl.
Actually, at least from what I see on 4chan, that's not how it is used in the west either, rather that the veiwer is suffering from selfdeception (into their own trap so to speak) due to their expectations. The trap doesn't need to be trying to actively achieve it for it to be true, which matches the Japanese definition.
The only difference I see lost in translation is the pun aspect of the word.
>Trap is just a really dumb term.
I disagree, I think it is a very clever way of summing up into a word what would otherwise require severral other tags/lengthy discriptions.
Androgynous and Bishounen comes to mind though they aren't really perfect equivalents, people can look androgynous without being confused for the opposite gender even though most of the time traps tend to be androgynous people (only on the part of the spectrum where you'd assume the opposite gender to be)
The Japanese word for them "Male Daughter", though the pronounciation results in it sounding like "boy"/"guy" (wink wink nudge nudge), is just as "dumb" or "clever" depending on how you look at it.
To be fair, the term genderbending is used in literary analysis to refer to the subversion of gender norms rather than what we use it for (characters actually changing sex). So traps and crossdressers do fall under the traditional definition. However I think that having a specific word for the latter is much more convenient.
One could just say otokonoko. People in the anime fandom have no problems using other loanwords from Japanese. Though of course trap is established so I see no point trying to change the word used.
Sure, the trap has been extended to cover everything falling under otokonoko, but there are still people using it in the more restrictive "character the viewer thinks is a girl" sense. This does result in some ambiguity. Not that I think it's worth doing something about it, but that ambiguity is there.
Otokonoko is problematic though given that there is a non-fetish use of the word originally. It's not like Tsundere or Zettai Ryouki that have no other readings in Japanese.
Given how 90% of western fandom already uses trap as pretty much the equivalent I find it silly to just try to change it now like some pages are trying to do forcing "tomgirl" for political correctness reasons coming out of nowhere.
Then again, I don't see how the trap has ever been problematic, given I have only seen it used here and on porn sites. Unless it's something like "femboy" being specific to porn in which case, congratulations, they have only moved the goalpost as soon people will associate tomgirl with porn aswell and start looking for a new politically correct way to describe what people have been calling a trap ever since Bridget started showing up in random threads (funny how these things always end up going back to Arcsys)
Welcome to the world of manga translation where you'll find the scanlators often know less Japanese than your random hentai translator (because unlike shounen manga hentai artists don't bother including furigana to make it so you can read them just knowing hiragana that you can punch into google translate but you actually need to know kanji).
The game is actually coming out on Steam in February, so it will be available on PC:
>Didn't Xrd come out for EU on steam?
Thankfully yes, but previous Blazblue (+ the persona game for PS3) got regionblocked for no adequately explained reason.
I am still pissed at Arcsys for that which is why I have refused to buy Xrd so far (given that it came out late on PC).
I might even skip Blazblue for the same reason, at this point I am pretty fucking burned with their bullshit and won't just accept scraps, I moved on long ago.
If they decide to up the ante I might be willing to give it a shot again but Arcsys is right now on the same list for me as Konami, Ubisoft and EA as far as "companies that treat PC like shit - do not buy" (in the case of Konami all of gaming).
That doesn't specify if it'll be out in EU.
>All the fighting games ArcSys announced for Steam are coming out in EU too but there is no word on BlazBlue yet for some reason.
I'll believe it when I see it. It's still a dick move regardless, those games run on windows PCs in the arcades to begin with and yet PC players are the last to get them (if we were talking about them not coming out of Japan even on consoles like happened with Melty for a long time, that would be a different discussion)
>So, are any of these good for anything but jerking off?
Most of the manga linked here have legitimately decent stories worth reading (either because they are funny, well-written or if you like fanservice depending on the genre).
If you like genderbenders that just happens to be a plus.
Also, Ame Nochi Hare isn't directly linked here but to me that one is the gold standard right now (though it is a slice of life manga so it doesn't have as many exciting things going on)
This also applies to the porn stories recommended to some extent. Ruuen Rouga is one of the most competent writers and artists when it comes to porn (regardless of him focusing on genderbending).
From there you can decide if you try out some other stories involving genderbenders which are quite honestly not really as good.
Sometimes people discuss them because they are trainwrecks and other times because they sadly got derailed while having a nice early start (the Kämpfer manga has nice art and early on the MC isn't as dense as his anime/light novel counterpart, though he eventually catches up).
Also, there are separate threads over at /d/ for the porn but the standards in storytelling are obviously lower, though sometimes they'll post/recommend stories which have shit story but great artstyle.
CT came out 3 years late and CSE was delayed by a year compared to NA releases IIRC (not even counting the delay between console and PC).
Arcsys has frankly not just a terrible track record but a downright insulting one when it comes to how they treat EU customers regardless of PC or not, as discussed with the Persona fighting game they also implemented region locking being one of the few companies to do so on PS3 (where most games were regionfree) delaying the game almost a year.
Honestly, they are Konami-tier at this point in my view, they need to do a lot of fucking goodwill at this point for me to view them as anything that isn't scum.
I wish the sequel was translated
So I looked it up and it was half a year for CSE, which is still unacceptable IMHO given we are talking about digital releases.
It's not like they translate into languages that aren't English last I checked and if so just release that as a patch half a year later
Can someone give me source on right?
Nobody uses otokonoko in the western fandom for something else though, so it could theoretically be adopted. Hentai has a completely different meaning in Japanese, but that hasn't really posed a problem. Not that I think it's worth trying to replace the word trap, since its usage is too well entrenched.
Depends on your tastes I suppose. Quite a few genderbender manga have little to no fanservice after all so they aren't meant for that.
Use google image search.
Having a voluptuous body doesn't mean that one shares is around. We aren't talking about character living in the World State from Huxley's Brave New World after all. Mai is a pure and chaste girl, who's only romantically interested in one man.
>Use google image search.
I did with OP, but your pic did the trick thanks.
http://exhentai.org/g/774767/ce87dc1a30/ I've had a rough month with medical problems and had to skip sleeping today. I'm gonna go relax in a chair with some gender bender animu, thanks.
I know the definition of that word is muddy enough but would you mind not using it?
It's not like Mai is an innocent Maiden either who is unaware of sexuality and sexual preferences (which is what I believe the context of the word "pure" originally implied").
And as for chaste, a girl can lewd as hell and be a chronic masturbater while never having had sex in her life. It's the default for pretty much any girl and most (non-hentai) genderbenders so Mai isn't a special snowflake in that regard.
It's more of a difference between hentai and non-hentai publications.
Ranma can be lewd/flirtatious at times but technically she falls under the same definition of "pure and chaste"
While I know the show has some magical bullshit is that actually possible (the lesbian sex experience) according to the shows canon?
I thought they were just bodysuits not actually something that transformed them into girls
There's also the alternate take, with Souji is swapped instead
Is there a site that keeps track of genderbender manga releases or focuses on scanlating them like Hachimitsu does for traps?

Regardless, the point that it is a pointless exercise and not really necessary given that trap is already a perfectly valid equivalent stands.
Being unaware of what sex is past the age of 10 is probably an indication of mental abnormalities. There is that image that gets posted sometimes on /a/ about girls that know what a dick is being sluts, but that is (hopefully) a joke.
If anything, from a real world perspective Mai is unrealistically innocent. We never see her thinking or discussing sex, which doesn't exactly apply to real world teenagers. Of course that is the case with the majority of girls in otaku media, so Mai doesn't stand out in that respect. But the fact that she has never been in a relationship or had intimate contact beyond kissing (which didn't occur because she wanted it to) does mean that she's pretty innocent.
Not really. I guess you can search for the Genderbender genre or the Gender Transformation tag on Mangaupdates, but the former is too broad and the latter doesn't always get added:
PS: I agree that replacing trap is not worth trying and that many use it as a synonym for otokonoko, but I do think that in the minds of a number of people trap simply means "boy that you mistake for a girl".
