So I just watched Revival of F and saw this scene.
Has it been discussed here before?
I felt it was a little silly.
It has been discussed to death and the memes it has generated are old and tiresome.
It was stupid and a plot hole but many anons will be quick to write down essays (with complementary manga panels) to explain why it makes sense.
It's simple he droped his guard and his ki and got his shit fucked up, vegeta in namek did the same thing so the krillin could damage him because he can't or this is just because of whis telling goku not to lower his guard but he does it any way
>anon hasn't read manga
>anon doesn't know about characterization, Ki control nor context
I bet you think that Goku's hair changing color when going Super Saiyan is a plot hole too.
>Goku dropping his power level enough to be one-shotted by a mere grunt with a laser ring who for some reason he couldn't sense or see coming despite being RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM
>somehow not a plot hole
Anyway this shit is even more embarrassing than Yamcha getting owned by the saibaman.
To be fair, we clearly see that Frieza was planning it all along, as he made sure his henchman was ready with the ring.
and Frieza tech 15 years prior was enough to ENHANCE Frieza's strength when he came back to earth, so the idea that it could eventually be developed enough to hurt a relaxed Goku is pretty solid
.Someone who was the leader after Frieza died
Next you'll say that Bill Gates is only a cashier at Microsoft.
>right in front of him
>hidden away & likely hiding Ki
>right in front
I guess Goku was right in front of Beerus and too.
ki is reliant on goku's focus, when his focus was on freeza whom on his knees goku's focus wasn't on being attacked by any one else. Ki isn't like a light switch one just turns on and off.
>Has it been discussed here before?
Damn you nigger for making me type this. He didn't drop his power level down. That's not how it works in dbz world. There are certain types of ki blasts that can damage a person no matter how strong they are.
Usually it's something like a disc or something that is "sharp." Freeza's finger blast is like this. So this laser was like freeza's finger blast. Goku doesn't have to lower his power level. He just wasn't paying attention to his surroundings where someone would blast him with that. It's the same as a destructo disc. Even if Goku is god level, the disc could still cut him.
The only exceptions to these "sharp" blasts are when a person is so powerful and aware of the incoming "sharp" blast that he concentrates his ki so it doesn't affect him. A perfect example is Goku concentrating his ki onto his finger so Trunks' sword didn't cut him.
TBF, even the fags arguing against you are somehow coming up with some bullshit excuses with power levels. They're just as wrong.
>So this laser was like freeza's finger blast.
Outside of BTFO-ing Goku, we never see that ring do anything impressive, or even anything above late Dragonball levels. Either this ring is some sort of superweapon that can be strength-adjusted at will (then why aren't all Frieza soldiers using it?) or Toriyama is a hack.
>or Toriyama is a hack.
He's never been able to keep consistency. I remember there was an episode of Dragonball that was post training with Master Roshi, post World Martial Arts Tournament where some kid pickpocketed Goku and was somehow able to outrun him.
I don't believe the bullshit about Goku lowering his ki. It's possible there are certain types of blasts that can go through anything.
But the real question is how could Goku, at this point in time with all his feats not simply dodge or deflect it using reflexes?
>It was stupid and a plot hole
Making Goku vulnerable and, for once, giving him a serious character flaw is far from being a stupid move. It was well established from the beginning of the movie that his self-confidence and absent-mindedness were going to be a big problem in a serious battle.
But that's not Toriyama. The scene you are describing wasn't in the manga.
This goku being lasered shit is just a hot topic faggots shitpost about.
they forget this same thing has happened before in DB and DBZ, but since these kids haven't seen them, they don't care, it's all about the newest shit.
>It's simple he droped his guard and his ki
no it's not that simply you dingus he was in fucking god mode and you want to tell me his ki droped to the level of some grunt? It would have made half way sense in base but this is just one of these dragonball bullshit scenes that happen way to often since toryjama got senile
7+ hours later and I was right. The same shitty arguments that he was relaxed enough for the ray gun to penetrate his skin. That sure as hell makes sense. Oh and it was so powerful that it turned him back to based form.
Anything to keep this shitstain of an continuation remotely plausible right fags?
I think it's just bullshit writing.
Vegeta proved you can lower your ki so much that someone who is a fraction of your power level can kill you, but what's the reasoning for Goku, who alone is stronger than Vegetto, to lower his ki so much that a laser killed him, one that could more than likely kill anyone sub power level 1000?
It would have just made more sense for Freeza to cheap shot him.
Or at least say the fucking laser has a good chunk of Freezas power stored in it, because ayy lmao technology or something. Fucking hell DBZ sucks.
I made a facebook account and posted it in one of those fangroups, they all went nuts and I got banned
their resting ki is near human.
Just to quantify it for you, future trunks went completely undetected by all of the z fighters and only registered as a 5 power level by a scouter.
That's actually a fair point, I never thought about it that way. Still, Goku should have reacted in time considering he was in front of the 5th strongest person in his universe who was out to kill him.
I guess they set up that plot point that he's careless/over confident though, so it's to be expected.
Initially, I didn't like it because as you said, it was kinda silly. However...
This is probably the best thing to happen to DBZ in terms of the power level fandom, because it just throws all consistency out the window. It seems like that part of the fandom's been sore since that dumb Superman vs Goku deathbattle. And with the recent arrival of Saitama, they hold onto Goku's feats even more.
This scene just throws all pro-power level argument out the window.
Remember, his hair was still blue when he got shot. So it doesn't matter if he let down his guard, or if it was a special snowflake laser. He should still have far surpassed SSJ3 even if he was relaxed.
That's still not how it works.
Unless you are forgetting how great ape vegeta, who is millions of time stronger than a fat swordsman, still was hurt by one when it was a surprise attack.
>who is millions of time stronger than a fat swordsman
Not really. Despite the looks, yajirobei was Tien-tier,
Also the tail is explicitly said numerous times in the series to be the fucking WEAK POINT OF EVERY SAYAN.
Tien got stomped by nappa, who was weaker than vegeta, who was at his strongest in great ape form at that point.
Even if it is a weakspot, no character that weak in comparison should even harm vegeta unless it was a *surprise attack*, you know, the same thing that killed goku.
But that is up for debate. The tech that Sorbet had is pretty great. If they went from having to turn Frieza into a cyborg to where they can fully regenerate him from kibble and bits, why can't their weapons have a sharp spike in power as well?
>he was relaxed enough for the ray gun to penetrate his skin
>That sure as hell makes sense
>What is Full Power Super Saiyan
>What is being reverted to base form after big injury
>What is Majin Vegeta knocking out Goku
>all this damage control
Anyone who says this made sense is either retarded or a liar. Justify it after the fact any way you want, if your first thought after seeing this was "oh yeah, this makes perfect sense", you probably have brain damage.
It wasn't a plot hole but it was still poorly executed and that's why some people felt it was stupid. Like, okay you can let your ki guard down, making you vulnerable. That makes sense. But then why the fuck is the guy still in blue hair mode, just have him power down to base.
>Out of Ki
>Still survives Namek's destruction
>Durable enough to survive planet destroying attacks & planetary destruction
>Why is my titanium armor stronger than my paper armor?
You realize the head turn is him looking at his hands/checking out his hot new bod right? The point of the scene is to show he's so powerful that he can completely ignore someone with Krilin's power level.
Which doesn't jive with Resurrection of F's scene which was to show that Goku has a habit of letting his guard down and is punished for it in the movie.
Because now we're getting fan canon where a Saiyan's based form is no tougher than a farmer.
The truth is, while Dragonball is surprisingly consistent for such a long running piece of fiction, they're willing to exercise artistic licensing for the sake of entertainment/story telling, consistency be damned.
>Because now we're getting fan canon where a Saiyan's based form is no tougher than a farmer.
>Saiyan's base form can take bullets
>Raditz can take bullets
>Raditz is a shit tier mook
>Sorbet outranks Raditz by plenty
>People claim Sorbet would wield shit weaker than Raditz
