KyoAnis fanservice has been getting more and more blatant the last couple of shows. It seems they really need the obsessive otaku fan bases money. They always did fan service but it used to be way more subtle. The first episode of Phantom World was pretty much entirely built around tit fan service and nothing else. Amagi Brilliant Park already had too much of that blatant shit for me.
>>135779822 There was legitimately a period of time (after Haruhi) where they didn't sexualize and it was one of the main complaints directed at them. Then Free! (for girls) and Kyoukai no Kanata (for guys) happened and they don't give a fuck anymore.
>>135779987 >There was legitimately a period of time (after Haruhi) where they didn't sexualize >Retards actually believe this
You do understand that KyoAni's core is infact just building a series around fanservice. Of course it's not in your face tits & ass or super-powerful Mecha close ups and sequences, but the subtle intricacies of many fetishes. I mean, look at some of their biggest hits, Lucky Star, K-On and Free. To quote Hideo Azuma, who is a famous mangaka and known as literally the father of the lolicon genre, here's what he said about K-On;
"I watched 'K-On!' It was empty. It was nothing. The jokes made no sense. It didn't even have any real eroticism, any grotesquerie. Just the mildest, faintest hint of fetishism throughout. Are the people who made it and the people who watch it that unable to cope with reality? It just feels gross -- kind of like maid cafes, now that I think of it."
If you think KyoAni doesn't have fanservice, then you need to open your eyes or learn about the real world. Fanservice is anything from Architecture to Ass, if it's independant of the plot and is just intended to please fans. "Moe" is currently the most popular form of fanservice in Japan and it's definitely not the in your face old school otaku style tits and ass, which I think has your mind cluttered, and that moe is exactly what KyoAni feeds off of.
>>135780010 Yes, and that is the truth. Are you retarded? Subtle doesn't mean there is less fan service, just intricacies of many fetishes, instead of blatant tits and ass like they do in Amagi and Phantom World.
>>135780593 But K-On is one of the most universally beloved shows out there. It appeals to a ton of demographics and elicits many emotions from people.
You can criticize the show all you want, but to call it "empty" is just plain wrong and shows he doesn't know what the fuck he's taking about. Which makes sense since he draws naked little girls for a living.
I think it's fair to say this first episode exceeded everyone's expectations of the degree of fanservice Kyoani is willing to make. Can Mai manage to hold the title of meme girl of the season against dagashi-tits?
>purityfags are BTFO agaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaain Ah, what a great time to be alive! The continuing decrease in anime characters who are considered "pure" is like balm for the H-enthusiast's soul!
>>135781449 Just read up in the thread anon, purity-minded anons are already complaining about KyoAni starting to do impure/fanservice-heavy shows such as this one. Clearly they're feeling BTFO. And I find that delicious.
>>135781941 You are retarded. Just because i said their fan service used to be more subtle most of the time doesn't mean there weren't some blatant scenes like Hyouka ED, or Chitanda in the hot spring.
I just hope this show doesn't take itself too seriously. I thought Kyoukai no Kanata, which is very similar in style and theme, found a strikingly good balance between seriousness of the plot line, and character interactions, and the cuteness and personability of the characters. First episode was good, but I have to believe Kyoukai will end up being better overall.
Speaking of which, why is the opening for this show so awful? It feel like they've been pretty off with the songs they use for their shows, exceptions as of late being Kyoukai and MAYBE the opening to Euphonium.
>>135782324 I loved Tamako Market and the movie in places where other people didn't. Yamada is just a great director for those cute and comfy shows with characters that you never really forget about. I still listen to the opening from time to time, but can it really be considered as recent? It's been three years since it aired already.
>>135782567 when you get to a certian point in life you cant fap to anything cept the real deal. i remember when i was a kid i could cum to a suggestively shaped vase if i tried hard enough. not anymore.
>>135782504 I guess they just have to work with whatever Lantis gave them and sometimes Lantis wants to use KyoAni's show to promote their artists so that might be the reason why those OPs didn't really fit the show.
Tamako Market is an exception because its OP was composed by the main composer of the show herself, who's likely hand-picked by Yamada..
>>135787487 cotd: You didn't qualify your statement with most of the time, you said it was way more subtle, period, and their fanservice wasn't the blatant pysical kind. Obviously that doesn't match your final statement.
This is how I feel about most Kyoani shows. It's really hard to describe, but a large amount of them just feel like air, like nothingness, and I don't like it. They're gorgeous shows, but most times I watch a Kyoani show and I feel like there's something incredibly hollow on the inside and I have no idea why.
>>135789272 Really? Because I feel the exact opposite, even their weaker works obviously have tons of passion put into the direction, atmosphere/mood, animation, etc and they always feel lively. >>135789376 might be right.
>even their weaker works obviously have tons of passion put into the direction, atmosphere/mood, animation, etc and they always feel lively.
All of the things you just mentioned are the visuals. Like I said, they're gorgeous shows, and so the actual animation and looks and everything are always pretty much 10/10. Even so I still feel like something's missing when I watch them.
Only PA works show I got that feeling from(of the ones I've seen) is Glasslip.
>>135779405 I don't get this. For years, people have been asking Kyoani to do something like this, and when they finally do something like you, you all go they shouldn't have done something like this. You guys are worse than Legend of Zelda fans.
>>135791359 >some people don't watch Kyoani shows because they're too prudish >Kyoani makes a fanservice show >long time Kyoani fans are upset, the new fans are happy It's only confusing if you think /a/ is a hivemind.
>>135789272 I will never understand why people say things like this, or that Hyouka is boring, or whatever. Kyoani shows have much more going on at a given moment than most other anime. The dialog is hardly ever superfluous, characters develop in both subtle and obvious ways, and the visuals are actually used to convey mood and symbolism properly rather than being set dressing for the vocal exposition like with most shitty LN adaptations. Honestly I'm mostly talking about K-on, Hyouka and UFO here, but most of their other shows aren't bad either. Even within the first two episodes of K-on, Yui develops more than most characters do in a whole season, and it's not like the show stays stationary after that. K-on is a simple story with great character development. Three whole years go by during the show, and the characters change as much as one would expect from kids at that age, and yet people keep saying K-on has no story. I legitimately don't get it.
>>135779405 Her powers are based on the eastern belief that various bodily organs represented the energies of each of the 5 primary elements (In eastern mythology that would be Fire, Water, Earth, Wood and Metal). The lungs (in her chest, under the boobs) represent Metal, the Kidneys (when she was rubbing her sides) represent Water, both represent the Yin (Light, generally associated with good) side of their respective element. It seems that her powers work based on this principle and that she draws the elemental energy by massaging these areas.
>>135792485 Well so far she's only drawn on Yin energy, Colon is Yang, which is associated with darkness and often evil (though not always), so it may very well be that she either can't or shouldn't use those energies.
If she's trying to draw the power of metal from her lungs, grabbing her own tits is hardly the closest her hands could get to the lungs. If she's coming from below her hands should be underneath her tits, if she's coming from above her hands would be just below the collarbone and pressing down on the top of her breasts. Or she could cross her arms behind her and press on her back, since you can approach and auscultate the lungs posteriorly too.
>>135795541 We saw you flipping them on when you tried to make a lame pun while you were searching on sadpanda and accidentally turned on your webcam. And then there's the keylogger program we've installed into your hands. Do you really want to continue denying you never asked for this, Jensen? Because then we have to reveal everything else you've search for outside of sadpanda, and I'm pretty sure revealing just the search words would violate some sort of obscenity law.
>>135781412 Not sure about the setting in the LN.But just like the four elements, there are the "five elements" in eastern cultures, metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. Five organs, heart, liver, spleen, lungs and kidneys are the representatives of the elements inside human body. So when she tries to enchant water power to deal with fire phantom, she grabs on her waist(spleen), same goes to the metal power - boob - heart.
Just watched the episode. Fuck it's really just a you can suddenly see youkai type of shit. And every kid gains power kind of shit. There's even yuri bait a demon hunting club kind of shit. I wonder what kind of twist will happen later. This show doesn't even bother to have a unique setting. This is a new low even for Kyoani.
>>135779533 Just another example of Kyoani refusing to venture outside their comfort zone. They will continue to cater towards the most pathetic demographic and never expand their horizons because they know they can keep making essentially the same thing with minor alterations and get the same people.
It's kind of entertaining to see the same few people samefagging in every Phantom World thread, just to spout the same lines over and over and over. I believe some of these people went very late to bed last night because they had to stay up coming up with inventive ways to state their outrage and dissatisfaction.
Why these troubled people do that? What motivation can they possibly have? Honest question. To enter in every thread about a show just to state how dissatisfied they are with it and to post replies agreeing to themselves - multiple times in multiple threads. I find that thought as hilarious as I find disturbing.
I mean, time is an invaluable resource. Brain processing power is equally precious. Yet these same few people find it funny or meaningful to waste their lives in this manner of.. what? Crusade? Retaliation?
Against what? A cartoon studio?
