>There are people on this board
>Who unironically watch battle academy harems, school harems, and fantasy harems
>There are at least 10 every season
>Season after season
Posts like this are a good time to bust out the public ban, mods.
I'm gonna wager it has something to do with boner-inducing character design.
>muh reddit bogeyman
>I'm not a faget I don't even watch this gay shit I just shitpost here
>muh stale /jp/ meme
Shitposters. Such as yourself. Why haven't you committed sudoku yet?
Sorry for shitposting in the shitpost thread. Btw I liked that meme tbqh. Haha its like you said 'kill yourself' again but you said it in a funny way! Because sudoku is like seppuku, lol upvoted
>It's shitposting to discuss the appeals of harem genres
No i think its simply that harem watchers are just shit posters.
Fun, moe, fanservice, the occasional sakuga, same reason I watch anime in general.
But isn't it corrupted when every cute girl character no matter how interesting a personality all have to turn into dumb dopes that are attracted to the dumb unlikable MC?
Does it not bother you?
>battle academy harems
their formulaic as shit but sometimes they have decent fight scenes and the girls have enough personality, so while I go in understanding its going to be somewhat generic, it can still have its good moments. What else do you want me to do, actually watch my backlog?
It's called stop having shit taste and plaguing the board with it when no one with good taste gives a fuck.
Most of the shitty threads that are put out are from shitty harems.
Can you fuck off? People don't have to convince you to enjoy it if you don't. You present this awful fucking OP and continue your retardation by taking a general concept (seasonal harem anime isn't always the best) and equate that to "stop liking shit, explain to me why its not shit"
Why don't you just go back to wherever you came from?
They should do like more yuri harems. And I don't mean like sol/moe/something else with yuri undertones, I mean full blown girl on girl ecchi.
No, I'm not saying they've never done it, so hold your reaction images and examples, but I'm saying they should do it more.
I don't like girl characters attracted to cardboard cut out "nice guy" mcs who have no personality. If even I find the MC unlikable why the fuck would gaggles of cute girls like that person?
You don't have to do anything, this is an open forum and if you want to respond to the question sure. If you are so triggered by people calling your taste shit find somewhere else.
I'm actually convinced that most shitty threads are ones like these about how someone doesn't like an anime genre, cliche, or archetype. They're awful and we have like fifty a day.
>girls are only in harems
Get a load of this newfag
Anon I never said all harems are shit, there are good harems like Monogatari where Araragi is likable and cool and it's plausible he has a harem of women. And then there is shit like Dan-machi or SAO or Mahoromatic with unlikable autists who would probably get bullied, and not have thousands of women falling over their penis.
>Why don't you just go back to wherever you came from?
Which is /a/.
I think you're the one who need to leave (for your own sanity and mental well being) if you're exasperated by autists being autists in a place populated by autists.
Nah I'm pretty sure we get the shitty "muh stella" threads more often and now with the new season we'll have more shitty threads like that with a different girl consisting of shitposting.
>OP is normal person at academy
>too beta to pick up girls and make his own harem
>gets BTFO at round one of his local high shool tournament
>OP makes butt devastated thread
I came here to laugh at you.
There are animu girls in almost every anime but harem anime's main purpouse is to show girls. So yeah, if you like girls you can certainly enjoy harem animu even if there are girls in other types of anime.
But nobody is making the case that DanMachi or SAO are well made anime. If your question is literally just "why do people watch bad anime?" did you really expect a clear answer? It would always come down to a personal choice, maybe they watch everything in a season, maybe they want background for when they fap to Hestia doujin. What are you trying to find out exactly?
OP confirmed a faggot
but then we knew that from the start
I don't need realism, I need characters that are charismatic enough to carry a show. Most beta cuck harem MCs couldn't talk their way out of a parking ticket.
I'm trying to figure out why people consume haremshit in such large quantities to perhaps glean why it is so dominant in the animu market.
I don't really think it is. He marries one of the other characters early on and stays with her the whole time. Throughout the anime he gains lots of companions, male and female alike.
Isn't it boring when every cute girl character no matter how interesting a personality all have to eat cake and make stupid noises like retards to look cute?
>If you don't like dumb tropes you really shouldn't watch anime
This. Choose a hobby where you like the commonplace shit and the cliches, not one where you want everything to be different than it is.
But girls do that shit. My imouto does that shit all the time.
Here's a fact: most otaku are single, obsessive, and antisocial losers. Never touched a female.
Harem fulfils a psychological need: the need for women and companionship. Otakus can't get that in real life, which is why they need anime.
You want to know why /a/ loves haremshit? Because 90% of the board are virgins.
What I simply don't understand is why does /a/ like putting up with harems with terrible main leads?
Surely a good MC will make the interactions between the girls more enjoyable like in trinity seven, yet you guys put up with beta fags.
Meh, the fights have a more traditional martial arts feel than most shounen anime now. I like them for the fights and the tits. Also, they aren't really actual harems, because the female characters are with plenty of guys besides MC, and have only one or two girls who are all over the MC.
The point is that generalizations are dumb.
Because I don't mind beta characters, and the MC is usually a non-factor, unlike when 90% of shows where they try to make him badass and interesting, where he just winds up detracting from the whole thing. Also, Trinity Seven was shit.
As one of those i can explain it in a simple way, those series are like chilli, the taste you feel from those is actually a grade of pain in your tongue, but your brain take it as a taste, and there're some people that really like chilli yet they dislike pain, and while it looks like a contradiction it's that special flavour that get you addicted, maybe the expectation of a change or the surprise if they could get worst each time, still you keep consuming it like an addiction.
>Trinity Seven was shit.
Story wise yeah but the harem interactions are much better than the standard shit with beta MC's.
You probably just like these betafags because you can self insert as them.
I used to like and watch harems a few years ago, but now I can't stand them.
No matter how many new harem shows come out it just feels like I'm looking a the same show that has been coming out again and again with a different coat on paint every time to try to make it look slightly different than the previous version. And sometimes not even that.
They keep ripping each other off like nobody's business with no end in sight.
And the worst part?
People still not only eat it up every single season but also praise it like it's something nice and refreshing.
Except for the majority of them being under budgeted rushed pieces of shit with lackluster direction in every department in comparison to even most children's shows that aren't constantly running, sure
I'm sure you're an expert on this subject.
>baaaaawwww there are people who like what I don't like
> praise it like it's something nice and refreshing
This is stupid, but I see nothing wrong with watching variants on the same thing. I like that thing. I enjoyed the plotline and cliches and character types last season, and they weren't super novel or surprising then, so why wouldn't I like them this season, too?
Well, how do I say this? You don't have much right to complain about battle harem while posting a picture of a moeshit show. I think that CGDCT is even worse than battle harem.
I think picture related explains better.
Harems aren't even that terrible since they sell like shit and their fanbase aren't that vocal.
Cute girls doing cute things SoL, on the other hand, is actually sapping the creativity of the anime industry. Shit shows like GochiUsa and Kiniro Mosaic are literally repeating the Keion formula over and over.
Can we all agree those people who read the harem light novels or pick them every season and try to act superior are the worst?
There's nothing special about this. Several years ago there used to be 2 or 3 shows every season about cats and how cute they were. That stoped eventually.
Even Moe-centered shows, which seemed would go on forever, have stoped. The last ones I remember were specifically in this format was Acchi Kocchi and A-Channel. Moe isn't gone, but as the central theme of a show, it hasn't happened much, if at all, since.
We're currently undergoing a boom in Magical Academy and Fantasy World Reincarnation series. It'll go away eventually.
One fad I wish doesn't go away are shorts anime. I've had more than I can handle of Teekyuu being rehashed for literally years at this point, but every season there's at least one good short anime series.
We need more Tonari no Seki-kuns and Miss Monochromes.
When a show with actual artistic worth (Shigatsu, KLK) airs, /a/ calls it shit. But when /a/'s favourite haremshit gets called up for being terrible, /a/ gets defensive and resorts to the 'stop hating what I like' argument.
But fantasy/sci-fi shows on average are gonna be just as terrible as the west in terms of writing and characters, while CGDCT isn't really replicated anywhere else. Sure they are samey but theres nothing offensively stupid about them like Harem MCs and the millions of associated tropes. Personally I find even low budget ones like Retarded Dragon Girls to be watchable, while even the highest budgets of Harems are really unbearable.
It was suspicious when you said 100-150 shows, but your facade was over the moment I got to "Ikkitousen and Tenjou Tenge being good at anything".
If anything, I am surprised nobody has called out on your shit.
If it's a battle anime that has an harem in it(AKA shounen shit) then I don't mind.
Battle anime that focuses on the MC and his harem are he fucking worst though.
>But fantasy/sci-fi shows on average are gonna be just as terrible as the west in terms of writing and characters
Pretty much. The typical fantasy/scifi shows tend to just be generic action series except in space/fantasy world. Nothing really special either. It's all just a case of pot calling kettle black.
I can't help but think that people who bicker about all this shit seem to have taken anime as some kind of an identity rather than you know, a hobby you do because you like it. Some of you fags are taking anime way too personally. People like things you don't. Big deal.
Is Berserk a battle harem?
Guts fights all the time and has multiple girls after his dick.
Seriously you faggots just keep watching boring as shit copies of lucky star or K-on every season and still enjoy them. You are no better than the faggots that keep watching Infinite Stratos every season.
>there are people who watch anime I don't like
JUST GET OUT
But to answer your question, it's because I like pretty anime girls. I like romance novels too.
Here is a rough count
>Ao no Rhythm
>Kono Subarashii Sekai
>Luck and Logic
Although not specifically tagged Harme, the descriptions describe some down on his luck male character meeting a nearly all female cast through some hijinks.
SoL anime still offer more characters arc types than harem anime. Specially since every girl in an harem show has "I like the MC" as her main trait.
>stale /jp/ meme
It's arguably one of the best /jp/ memes.
I use it all the time when retards try to put words in my mouth.
If you banned every single idiot misusing the quoting function this site would be at least 50% better.
>no we are different!
Ok, you keep your shit opinion and I will keep my godly opinion
>Implying SoL doesn't display something akin to the platonic ideal of femininity, and by repeating it one gets closer to understanding the apex of civilized action.
Do you guys...ever miss not having watched anime?
Like, are you ever nostalgic for the first time you watched anime, when you were just exploring the medium after a lifetime of western media, and everything was new and exciting?
And then you start watching airing anime, after having watched the cherrypicked suggestions, the best of of 3 decades, and you realize that it's literally just the same shit.
The seasons change, but the catalog stays the same, but you keep watching it, even though you know it'll never be as good as the first time.
And even if you go back and try to rewatch those same shows that once you drew you in, they're just not ever the same. You've seen them already, there's no surprise in the tricks and twists. The highpoints and lowpoints are still exciting and depressing, but they're lost their edge, they've been blunted.
Blunted not only be your previous experience with them, but by the medium as an entirety, having watched so many imitations, some better, some worse....
I can't even name a single show that aired summer 2015, it all just blends together.
I'm just tired, I've grown numb to it, to what is, and begin to long for what was.
Ah, is this why Japan idolizes youth?
I think I begin to understand, and that makes me the saddest of all.
No. I still enjoy anime and I've watched a few hundred shows over the years.
I can't name when stuff aired either, because I don't watch airing anime. I only watch completed stuff.
No. Even after 400, I'm still finding little gems that are worth watching.
There's always shows I remember every season.
Summer was NNB and Wakaba Girl
Spring was Etotama and Danmachi
Winter was Yoru no Yatterman and Rolling Girls
Fall 2014 was Mushishi etc etc
Just fuck already.
Op here, I have accepted this as the most broad and understandable answer.
As someone that's been here since 2003, I have to agree. Though back then we watched lots of stupid ass shit that was just "anime to be anime"
I think our ecchi period was equally as bad as newshits self-insert battle harems.
Actually, no I don't.
>all that lewd talk about highschool girls
>suddenly says her favorite A-Team character was mad murdock
The fact that so many /a/nons watch harems is just further proof that their taste in anime isn't superior to even the most casual anime fans. All harems are pure trash, it's main attraction to their audiences is how stale, derivative and uncreative it can be.
Are you trying to pull a No True Scotsman? If so, give it up. People you don't like are staying here and are part of /a/ regardless of whether you like it or not. That's the reality of it. Claiming that fanbase of X are from Y is just asking for an uphill battle.
I watch whatever has cute girls in it, I don't care what the genre is.
Because I want cute girls surrounding me all the time. I am the MC and I just pretend what I would do in place of the beta protagonist. That, and in some harem anime I find a genuine comedic relief.
Cute girls and laughter is what I need in my miserable existence.
This nigga gets it. Stop complaining about a whole genre. The only genre that actually is shit is mecha hence why we have /m/
yes, eva a shit
Usually, I try not to bash an entire genre, especially if it involves anime. But I honestly cannot see the appeal of Harems. Yes, I know cute girls, but they're cute girls in almost every genre. And if you want to look at mature content, well, there's an entire industry that caters to that desire, where people don't have to watch Harems for.
I can understand people who like SoL, Romance, and even Moe, but why Harems? The MC is usually an insufferable cardboard cut out, with no interesting personality traits, skills, talent or even character design, yet the audience is expected to believe that most, if not all women, within his reach are attracted to him? Why? Because he's nice? So these women have never met a guy who was polite to them in their entire lives until the MC showed up?
And the Harem girls are barely better than the MC. Many times, they're just archetypes. There's the elite wealthy gal, the athletic tomboy, the shy intellectual type, the nice next-girl childhood friend etc.. I just don't see how people can watch the same thing over and over again. Don't they get sick of the routine?
>I try not to bash an entire genre, especially if it involves anime. But I honestly cannot see the appeal of Harems.
You almost had me but gave it away to early.
Cute dere girls, and the MC is usually so run of the mill that I can essentially ignore him. Events are usually just excuses to make the girls blush and go dere.
Sure, they are poorly characterized archetypes, but they are archetypes that I like.
I will never get enough athletic tomboys.
The more serious battle harems are usually more shit, but the comedic ones are fun.
>there's an entire industry that caters to that desire
Please explain that industry. I'm not interested in H scenes, just silly ecchi scenes on occasion. I really enjoy the constant flirting and dick teasing.
After watching some 5 years of anime I just can't watch most harems anymore. Every time I try to watch one I just close it after 10 minutes because I can't stand it. There was a time where I did enjoy them but my enjoyment dwindled after each series. So to answer your question, OP, they probably haven't watched a ton of them yet. And if they have, well I have to admire their dedication to watching the same thing with minor differences over and over again.
> I just don't see how people can watch the same thing over and over again. Don't they get sick of the routine?
> And if they have, well I have to admire their dedication to watching the same thing with minor differences over and over again.
I like the routine. What is hard to understand about this?
>KinMosa is just bait
Your favorite carpet chewers say hi
I feel this way about most anime though including harem. I've dropped or temporarily stopped watching more anime then I have finished. Manga I feel more compelled to finish if I reach a certain point but I have no qualms dropping a show I've been following mid season. I don't normally read harem manga though.
Because I am a trashcan through which all anime must pass before it can move on to the great beyond.
Nothing is wrong. I don't really care what you watch. I'm just saying that it's unusual for most people to watch a ton of shows that are almost identical. You're ok with it which is fine but generally speaking most people get tired of watching the same thing over and over again.
Well, this is all just anecdotal evidence after all. Most people I've known who watched harems got tired of them after some 60 series. Personally I stopped watching them after 100. I just find it difficult to believe that someone would be willing to watch 1300 episodes of what is the same thing. But I could be wrong.
I know you faggots love getting caught up in debates over whether the characters are lesbians or not, but that's not the point. It's bait because no yuri relationship develops into anything.
You're still missing the point. Yuri implies actual romance, which is why an undeveloped lesbian crush is yuri bait no matter how indisputably canon gay the characters might be.
for fantasy harem it's a fantasy, so naturally it's going to be composed of fantasies (like harems).
dunno about the school setting shit don't know why people are so obsessed with high school.
Actually battle harem is the best selling series of 2015 and more than double the amount of bd dvd sales of utapri. The reason is not ranked that much in number bd sales because fate was sold as 1 complete season boxset each sales.
Every single harem hater is a genuinely terrible person and world would have been much better off if they were all drowned at birth.
First you have the normafags who get offended at fanservice and "misogyny" and pandering to those disgusting, creepy otaku. Then you have the deepfags who only watch mature and intellectual children's cartoons and hate harems because in their deluded minds they believe anime would be treated as a respectable medium if only anime that existed was the ones that they like. And finally, you have those rare (but all too real) loonies who literally have a mental breakdown whenever they see a male character in anime and won't shut up about how generic every single male character in existence is.
Harem is the quintessential anime genre. If you dislike harems, you're better off watching Western television instead, because anime clearly isn't for you.
Why does a lot on /a/ blame on other boards if it doesn't align with their beliefs?
Can't you accept that maybe /a/ is a mix pool of shit and stains and gold than hoping it revolves around your opinions?
>harems aside from -gatari aren't even selling anymore
The future is all girl shows and I love it
Yes but they used to be actually good with unique characters and story instead of the cookie cutter shows they've been shitting out since a few years ago.
And they used to be rare and the characters had good personalities.
Now they make every single girl fall for the bland mc instead of 2 or 3, and that too just for being nice every single time
Except that the harem of old includes actually choosing multiple girls and even fucking them. Harem as used in anime today isn't harem because endless one-sided chasing is the opposite of having a harem.
