For some, Doki has a bunch of problems, and the big question mark is how you feel about an unusual pink for being more like a shounen I-can-do-it-all type who only has the most superficial of weaknesss. If that's not a problem, then Mana will probably win you over and the rest of the series will fall into line, because the real growth is Regina's and jher storyline more or less hinges on her loving the pants off of Mana just for being Mana. MakoPi should probably be a bigger deal, but just has two or three episodes that really feature her (and her alone without Mana just saving her ass) in a way that help you understand her struggle, but she's generally underused and underdeveloped.

Aguri is hit-or-miss, depending on how much of a lolicon you are, though Ace is a decidedly unusual cure that's less grown-up and more a young girl's image of what a grown-up might be (so sexy, arrogant and bossy).

Smile, Suite, Yes, Fresh are all solid, but have different strengths and weaknesses.

Doki, HaCha, and Splash Star are probably best to avoid as a newcomer, for various reasons. Don't start with Max Heart or GoGo either, they're sequels.

Futari Wa, Splash Star, and Heartcatch are the three strongest entries for newcomers trying out the series because they are the best series for exercising the core vision of the franchise with the most consistent production and performance quality. These three should be recommended first because these are the three strongest offerings which will not flake out on the viewer on large stretches of episodes at a time.

Not every fan will like all of series; but out of these three series, one is likely to stick. I know Pretty Cure just seems like a series about cute girls doing stupid shit, but theres something charming and enchanting about the WELL EXECUTED idea of little girls bonding through feats of adversity, courage, and great justice. And it is for this very reason that someone who is interested in the series should try out the first couple episodes of these three 'beginner' series to see which cast they enjoy the most.

That's a completely different thing from being the pinnacle of a franchise in a general term. What's even your point? Fun things are fun? No shit. My favorite is Smile but there's no fucking way I can say "Yes, Smile is the best thing this franchise has to offer overall. I think it's just the eyecandy, and maybe the unique pink and Yui suffering.
Everything else has been done better by other series, but as always the easiest way to attract people is with high production values, which include Nana, Umakoshi and the sakuga.

It certainly would've been a whole different show. I would've loved to see more from Kanade, she's kind flat as it stands now. But they could've made for an interesting show on their own, even if the action would probably suck. Imagine Seiren getting cleansed as a cat and Batcure remaining separate the whole time.

In the end, I guess I never wished for that because it felt like Hummy was the most important part. I really enjoyed the pair dynamic and all, but I just thought their little adopted family was too cute.
