you need to read the novels first to understand all the lore and the settings of the anime,also the ost, op and ending are really good.

I can only watch an ep every six months or so. I like the atmosphere even if i have no idea whats happening but it's almost painfully slow and the fisheye lens and grain aren't 't helping. Awesome mood though.
