Holy shit, how can one girl be THIS cute?
But that's not true anon, she's always cute
>first 5 episodes
>already advance romance to kissu
>later nothing happens
I love it when an LN/mango get popular and they have to make sure the romance arc length matches the whole story length.
Sometimes I think it is because they clone romance arcs adn never really learned how to write a relationship after the confession
I watched half of S1 when it first came out and I just don't get the appeal. Haruhi is an unlikeable bitch, the supporting cast is, in my opinion, boring, and Kyon is alright, but not enough to carry the show. What exactly is the appeal? Why do people literally worship Haruhi when she's unlikeable 70% of the time?
>I watched half of S1
>he hasn't watched Live Alive & Someday in the Rain
Those are her peak character development episodes, step up senpai.
This. Alt Haruhi is the fluffiest
That's because it was originally supposed to be a oneshot.
Why do her ribbons look so retarded though?
trolling is a art
It has interesting characters, and cool story arcs.
Plus I like how everything intertwines pretty perfectly connecting the future, past and present.
If you rewatch the first episode, there's literally so much foreshadowing it's ridiculous.
I dunno it still feels like wasted potential.
>hey lets have god an alien a robot and a ghost as characters!
>think of the possibilities!
>nah they just have boring SoL shenanigans for 90% of the story
>not liking supernatural slice of life intertwined with science fiction and mystery
You basically just have shit taste.
that takes me back
>There was almost no sci or mystery
I don't think we were watching the same series then.
The possibilities are explored frequently though. Just because the show isn't what you wanted it to be doesn't mean it's bad, it just means you're a close minded pleb.
Nowhere near enough for me. and the pacing also didnt help
>weird thing happens like that girl that tried to kill the MC early on
>oh well back to boring school life!
I was groaning a lot while watching
The show is about supernatural and fiction in everyday life, that's the whole point and what Haruhi does all the time
going full scifi would be dumb except in rare stories like Disappearance and even then it has a point (character development for everyone)
>the best S1 episode
Sorry senpai, but Live Alive is the best episode from S1
Both orders have their pros and cons. People that watched broadcast tend to think Haruhi is a bitch because they couldn't see her develop as a character, because it places her most mellowed out non-bitch episodes at the start and her bitchiest moments right at the end of the series.
Even if you watch S1 chronologically, S2 fucks up her character development again.
So? It simply picks the best examples. If you want every episode to be a sci-fi actionfest you're watching the wrong show.
Why? The kiss in LN1 wasn't even romance it was just Kyon trying to show Haruhi there are things beside aliens. Actually, Haruhi herself more or less consciously tried to make it look like a dream. She didn't keep the ponytail for more than 5 minutes on the next day. I'd say she didn't want to earn his affection in such a cheap way.
So after Melancholy, they go back to square 1, except Haruhi isn't a bitch anymore. It's a fresh start, that's why the SOS Brigade becomes official precisely at this point.
How, the resolution was terrible.
Some completely random puzzle and they get out. There are some implications that didnt go anywhere and the only possible redeeming part was shippingfag fuel
KyoAni really puts effort into their attention to detail. This moment was in the novel too.
But the Haruhi LNs are very enjoyable.
If she was really a tsundere she would've flipped out in this scene.
Maybe it's the product of character development, but she really mellowed out.
With the exception of Sasaki's introduction.
Atmosphere and middle part were perfect, resolution was bad.
It's not inexistent, see pic related, see Live Alive, see Disappearance, and many details (things Kyon say)
I think it's pretty subtle. I'm usually annoyed by the main guy gets shipped with main girl for no reason thing. Instead, Kyon and Haruhi act as friends for a long time, and there are only hints of romance here and there. Especially since Kyon is an unreliable narrator and doesn't want to accept he likes Haruhi, at least in a platonic way. After Disappearance you could argue he's in love with her but they could also very well just be good friends. Kyon's description of Haruhi gets gradually more and more positive as they grow closer to each other, and he starts understanding her a lot more and depending heavily on her. I feel like this is done right and that slow pacing was necessary for that, the only problem is that the anime doesn't get any further than Disappearance
Also, the link was destroyed after the archive got taken down but some anon had compiled all ambiguous things Kyon say about Haruhi. Turns out they make for a big part of the narration.
Kyon is the tsundere here. But he has an actual reason to be tsun toward Haruhi (she makes him do stuff he wouldn't normally do, outside of the norm. Even if he actually likes it, it's understandable for him to reject that at first and pretend to the reader and himself he "just doesn't have a choice")
You're thinking of the other kind of tsundere, one goes from tsun to dere back to tsun in seconds, for the other one it takes much more time, but the tsun is toned down quite a bit.
She probably would've let Kyon rape her in that scene.
Seriously, the lack of reaction to Kyon's presence kind of bothered me there.
She was surprised, she chills right after that (pic related).
Remote Island episodes were pretty QUALITY, but the rest were good.
>some anon had compiled all ambiguous things Kyon say about Haruhi
That's me. Too bad about the archive.
I still have the .doc, if you guys want I'll put it on pastebin or something, but I don't know if I've still got the corresponding screenshots from the anime.
I was hoping for a hug at least, even though I knew it wouldn't happen
Read the LNs
A pastebin would be nice, thanks based anon
Oh thank god I thought it was lost forever.
I am fucking in love with Haruhi
Posts like this make me happy because I see how all debate about her, and about the series.
I hate that there will not be a third season.
I hate the damn pachinko.
And I hate very very deeply, being in love with her since 10 years ago.
I have a problem, I know anons, I know
That scene made me uncomfortable and I have no idea why
That bright smile of hers is impossible to forget.
You're a good guy, senpai.
To offer an opposing perspective, I never understood why people were so bothered by Haruhi's bitchiness. It's a pretty common sentiment but it seems like a lot of people out right hate the show because of it. I understand different people have different taste, but was her behavior that unbearable? Yeah, she can be bossy but it's mainly presented in a comical way (except in Sigh, but that was done for development and purposefully exaggerated things). Overall, I see Haruhi's behaviour kind of like a cute kid's. Her drive is what makes her exciting as opposed to characters. Besides, we see over the top characters everywhere in anime, so why does Haruhi get singled out here?
>the series is pretty average
Objectively, you're right, but I think there's something really charming about the main series. I watched the series about a year ago (I put it off because I thought it would be a generic harem) but it really surprised me. I feel like people don't give the TV series enough credit. Do people not remember how big it was in 2006-2007?
The actual reason Haruhi acted like a "bitch" is because she literally never had any friends, and didn't know how to treat people.
Plus she outcasted herself as a crazy alien girl too, so that didn't really help her social skills.
I don't think so. There aren't even scans of haruhi-chan past volume 5 available online anywhere as far as I can tell. Had to buy volume 6 and probably will need to buy 7-10. People stopped caring.
>makes me happy to see people still remember Haruhi.
There's no way you could forget her. Haruhi is haruhi!
It's just a story, but damn if Haruhi isn't one of the most inspiring characters I've seen.
Just walk her home gently.
While holding hands.
Why didn't Kyon choose the world where he could have repopulated the earth with her?
Which episode was this again? I was trying to remember why she did that.
There are scans, but not translations. Maybe they gave up on it since it has an official translation, like manga adaptation.
Is this show worth finishing? I got maybe 4 episodes in before I tapped out. Wanted to watch it just to see and hear these characters together again but I just couldn't stomach it.
Then again that was when the only subs available were google translate shit, maybe its okay now.
It made me feel uncomfortable.
But that was probably the purpose.
>tfw imagining a threesome with these two
just hope I don't get ignored
I don't into runes. I meant either translations ahead of yen press or scans of the yen press. It's a very good translation admittedly but it's going to cost me £20 for a few hours reading and all I get extra is some useless paper
To me it's worse when it settles in that shes gone and he just shuts down through the day. Cause I know what that feels like.
There's actually a considerable amount of NGE references in Haruhi.
Sometimes when I say my favourite anime is Haruhi I wonder whether it's just an automated response for the sake of having an answer, then a thread like this with an image like yours comes along to blast away the fog in my heart.
>S3 with Hyouka/Hibike production values never
You're not a very nice guy, senpai.
If by 'that' you mean your image, It's Mysterique Sign (episode 7 in broadcast, 9 in chronological), when Emiri Kimidori comes to the SOS Brigade for help. She does this while giving Kyon a knowing look.
Being Koizumi is suffering.
Apparently even the manga got completely scanned.
Did you even watch the show you retarded faggot?
The nape gives me power!
>anime 10th anniversary
Maybe we'll get a
Interview after LN11, forgot which one (maybe in the Examination of Haruhi Suzumiya)
He says he has the plot in his mind but it takes him time to write the actual book
A 4 years gap between LN10 and 11 happened too but LN11 was pretty big and it got a worldwide release, wish he could pull that again
This year's Tanabata will be the day of HAPPENING. You heard it here first!
Think of all the new fan material we'd get in the event of S3
Every time I think I'm over this I see a thread like this and it all comes rushing back.
Let's all love Haruhi
>Think of all the new fap material we'd get in the event of S3
>Do I even watch the series?
If you google the film title, the descriptions and external links don't mention any other works. I guess "The Disappearance" and "The Melancholy" both blended together in my brain while googling.
How the fuck was that even remotely implied? The typical means of acquiring anime these days is via torrents or XDCC, which both suggest that a query of some kind was made. Even otherwise you'd generally do some research on the internet or would have heard of it somewhere on the internet before you get to watch it, in which case it would have been difficult to not realise that there are other adaptations of the series available.
Yes, then watch Disappearance again
I just double-checked and there is no reference. I had a suspicion that it wasn't a movie but it was all I could find. Now I know why, fuck me.
Mind you, that was some outstanding animation in 2006, anon.
I hope you plan to watch broadcast order.
Why would you want to watch this>>135715185 episode without the proper build up though?
You ruined all the process. You are supposed to watch the twe seasons first, then post on /a/ a thread about how much this show is a boring stuff with wasted potential, useless moeblobs and how much KyoAni were troll for endless eight.
Then you would have been called a faggot and a newfag and eventually an anon would have advised you to watch the film.
Finally you would have discover a fucking 10/10 movie with not a single flaw and you would have create another post to say how much it was awesome and how much some scene were brillant like the inner battle in the school or the Kyon/Yuki under the snow one.
But how could you know that it's not better? That's a judgement you can only make after having finished the series. I don't have much of a preference either way but it's reasonable for viewers to choose the order designed by the director over the words of strangers on the internet when the matter is still divisive.
Sure. What I take issue with is that the other poster adamantly claimed that chronological was better than broadcast using reasoning that only holds retrospectively or adopted second hand when we're dealing with someone walking into the show blind.
Make way! Best
It was a rhetorical question meant to illustrate that a prospective viewer who has yet to watch the series is ill equipped to make such a judgement using the reasoning that you have provided. I'm not asking how you personally came to that conclusion. I'm implying that a generic viewer ought not to be swayed by what you have presented.
more like: literally WHO?
If you're gonna act so pretentious you should at least be intelligent enough to realize it was a joke. How would I watched the entire series by watching the two halves that are organized in different ways?
By generic viewer I mean any arbitrary viewer who is about to watch the show. I don't understand what you're asking for here.
How was any of that pretentious? I thought I laid it out in pretty clear terms. You're right in that I should have realised you were joking but your narrative belies a misunderstanding of my post that I thought to clarify. I don't know if I come off as aggressive in tone but I don't really mean to be.
Well, your argument is that any arbitrary new viewer (the "generic viewer") would prefer the broadcasting order. And then you dismisses a random anon that claims he started watching the series in chronological order and liked like that. Do you have any proof that shows that your "generic viewer" is the rule and not the exception?
I have not claimed to have been joking. My posts thus far have been quite serious.
>your argument is that any arbitrary new viewer (the "generic viewer") would prefer the broadcasting order
No it's not. Read my posts again.
>And then you dismisses a random anon that claims he started watching the series in chronological order and liked like that.
I asserted that his justification based on personal experience means little to a prospective viewer, not that his conclusion was mistaken or otherwise flawed.
>Do you have any proof that shows that your "generic viewer" is the rule and not the exception?
What? I don't know what you mean. I hate to say this but I think your English proficiency isn't helping you understand my case.
Can someone tell me on what volume am I currently on? I dropped the LNs a year ago for college.
And I fucking swear I've asked this before but I always forgot to check the thread.
mikuru got kidnapped by the other time traveler dude and idk the old man and the maid from that ace attorney arc helped to get her back?
>designed by the director
Which is chronological, because that's how they aired the full series. Broadcast only applies to S1. If you're watching both seasons, the broadcast order IS the chronological order.
Ore Monogatari!! for a recent piece of work.
The gatari series as well for LNs/anime.
Although I will say that a series that does the romance in the beginning tends to be boring as fuck.
Chronological order is the broadcast order, anyone that says otherwise is just confused.
Where are my Haruhi-chan bros at?
>yfw you will die not knowing the ending of haruhi
The troubling thing is that assumedly he would've already if he had any good ideas. It's a source of great sadness in my life thinking about how mediocre the ending will be.
To make things interesting for people who read the LNs. There wasn't as much thought put into it as you think. It's not as if they tailored the narrative to it or anything. In fact, in some ways it hampered it. It means Haruhi is a bitch all the way through S2 and Someday In The Rain, a retrospective episode that's right before disappearance, is near the beginning of the series instead of the end.
>I didn't know /a/ hated the idea of watching it in broadcast order.
/a/ isn't one person. What order to watch Haruhi in is actually a very polarizing topic. You should lurk some more.
You got a problem with cute girls?
I don't care about closure, if it continues I want the same or better quality.
>It absolutely has to be interesting
I'll never accept it, even if it became cannon. I'll reject that reality and substitute my own.
i could land a plane between her eyes
What do you mean? He is plenty interesting, not only has he traveled through time, lived through a bunch of supernatural phenomenons, but he is the first anomaly Haruhi found. He is basically, for all intents and purposes, her will manifesting in the real world for the first time.
Actually her attitude is more a product of how she views the world, if you pay attention to what she says. The anime and LNs show us plenty times that she knows how to "play nice", even if she only does so as a means to an end.
That's why I love her.
Isn't she living in a reality that she controls, or something roughly along those lines?
Of course she's cute in literally her own universe. Would you make a universe where you were an ugly motherfucker?
If you really think Haruhi is uguu, then you don't know uguu.
Haruhi can get pretty fucking uguu
But she can alter reality only when she REALLY want it (unconsciously).
She, her eccentricity, her beauty and cuteness are entirely hers.
In addition, the vast majority who knows her, do not want to get involved with her.
If I create a world, I would not want everyone to speak ill of me behind my back.
Yeah but that's just shitty official art. Every series has shitty official art.
THAT IS MADE FOR BEDROOMS
>Disappearance was an hour too long
But it's not
What exactly...is the limitation of no more haruhi based stories?
Wasn't dragon ball GT made without the creator or something along those lines?
Sorry, I don't work in the industry and don't know how it works but I'll take another nagato yuki chan at this fucking point, I just need more haruhi.
I also have another question, IF they make any more haruhi anime stuff, is there anything stopping her VA from playing the role again?
If my assumption is right japanese va's "become" the character so if anything is stopping her its going to hurt...but what's to stop say Yoshino Nanjo who played Aki in robotic notes from doing her?
I guess I'm retarded, I thought they were the same actor or perhaps aki reminds me too much of haruhi
I can see reasonable people defending Haruh's bitchiness but /a/ is not reasonable. /a/ screams its like 3DPD at the slightest hint of bitchiness. So I have to wonder how Haruhi manage to get a pass. Was it just a different time back then?
I've only read the LN up to the valentine event where mikuru
from the future come and stay in tsuruya's mansion. does she actually know everyone's real identity or was she really only had vague idea?
Not much has changed or progressed, I guess the author wasn't brave enough to break the status quo. Apparently they're going to college together in the future, and there were some cute moments but nothing major.
Kyon jumping from a three-story building to try to cushion Haruhi's mortal fall is pretty major if you ask me
He literally spends half of the narration telling the reader how lovely Haruhi is
Fuck. I don't even want a season 3.
That doesn't change anything. Is there a confession or do they do things a couple does (kiss, sex, dates) ? If not the status is the same.
Dialogue is important too
>But all I can see before my eyes is the sole form of one person. Sorry Koizumi, Asahina-san (big). There's nothing else reflecting in my eyes.
>Haruhi Suzumiya. Our brigade chief and reigning governess of the clubroom. Arrogant, easy-going, and brimming with confidence. Manipulating anyone, overcoming anything, plunging forward towards her goals with the force of a bowling ball being shot by a linear catapult…all I can see is the sleeping face of my one and only leader.
>…all I can see is the sleeping face of my one and only leader.
That's pretty good
Gave me some short lived feels.
I hate shipping faggotry with a passion but Haruhi x Kyon is literally the only exception
>The sound of rushing air roared in my ears. I would be hitting the ground soon. I closed my eyes. Tight.
>I embraced Haruhi. As tightly and closely as I possibly could. – The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya, final chapter.
>But that was all right. However far we fell, we’d be together.
>After a floating sensation, I felt free fall again. I put more strength into my arms, telling myself that Haruhi was the one thing I would never let go of.
Level with me /a/, Should I go find and read all the LN start to finish? Will I appreciate the series more?
This was the first anime I really enjoyed and I want more of it.
Oh, there is.
Sadly, only first 40 are edited.
Hm I didn't have them numbered, I saved them with names.
So I could keep posting them, but is there maybe a site that has them all translated?
Thanks to this thread I remembered that body switch doujin that I enjoyed, thanks /a/.
>hating on pre-'K-on' kyoani
Its like you hate the good things in life
