She jumped up right before Esdeath activated the time freeze thingy. Only the after-image remained frozen before Esdeath. Akame herself was frozen up in the sky. When Esdeath realized this and looked up it was too late, as the effect of the time freeze started to dispel and Akame was already coming down.

Esdeath was stronger, but Akame was starter. That's why she won.
