As I remember it, the computer overlord thing was like "yo relax I can fix this" and then Nausicaa was like "NOOOO, SCIENCE IS EVIL, MUH NATURE WILL FIND A WAY" and killed it. Is there something I"m forgetting?

there was a "crypt" in the capital that held the old world's knowledge from before the 7 days of fire. the crypt held technology that created the sea of corruption, the ohmu, and immortality.

Basically anyone who had controlled the crypt used it for personal gain, and did not benefit the whole of humanity, as the crypt was often just used for war. Nausicaa thought humanity would fare off better without hyper-advanced technology because mankind was not ready for it.

So any new developments on the new movies or anything?

there were humans who figured out how to live in harmony with the sea of corruption. also the mutant slime mold that appeared towards the end of the manga was stopped by the insects, although it spawned a new extension of the sea of corruption. there were still places to live, but Nausicaa destroyed the crypt because she feared the technology inside would be used only foolishly again and again, and didn't want another disaster to happen. There was something how the planet would cure itself eventually, but humanity would upset the balance by technology that was too powerful.

I also remember reading that the God Warriors weren't created for war, but to be gods and judges for mankind. Turns out the God Warriors judged mankind to be detrimental to the rest of the life on Earth and thus itself, so they killed almost everyone in the 7 days of fire.

I didn't like the entire last volume. It was almost like a completely different manga. Enjoyed it up till then. But as a whole, not really the 'best of the medium', 'masterpiece', that people seem to think. Nauiscaa suffers severely from Mary Sue or 'chosen one' syndrome and as a character she's pretty terrible. Someone else on /a/ once tried to convince me that it was forgivable because all the other characters were done well, but I still disagree.

How do you like heroic characters to be developed? To put it another way, how would you reconcile heroism with depth of character?
I find a lot that people complain heroic characters being "Mary Sues" when really the point of the heroic archetype is that they exhibit the greatest human capabilities, be it in strength, courage, judgement, emotion. Sure, straight heroes are usually not the most interesting characters in the landscape of modern fiction, but I think we're still too quick to fault heroic characters for acting or being written to be heroic.

It's my favorite manga and Nausicaä is my favorite heroine. That is all and I read it was all drawn with a regular pencil. The movie is okay but I like the soundtrack more. Can't wait for Anno to ecchi it up and see EVA like giant god warriors. The age of sexualizing Kushana and Nausicaä is upon us.

Yeah it's great until the last volume. I still like it because I love the "future medieval world with ancient advanced technology" trope.

And even if Miyazaki is a feminist and Nausicaa a mary sue is still better than The force awakens.

I dunno, I felt Nausicaa's choice in the end prevented her from being a Sue. Sues are always right, Nausicaa made a hell of a judgement call and it's unclear if it'll truly work or if it'll doom anyone. And even if it works it still means she's a mass murderer.
