How did you enjoy the first OVA?
I had to shower and clean the apartment before watching it for maximum peace.
Embrace it. You must embrace the comfy.
It was new year night - so, Aria the Avvenire is my first ainme 2016. I was drinking whisky and enjoying this story. When I saw Neo Venezia again, I almost cried. My city of dream, perfect place for me.
Thanks for audio. Aria OST is always amazing.
Very frustrating, too short.
I got overly emotional anyway since i've never rewatched Aria after completing it the first time three years ago. I missed Neo-Venezia so much that right when I saw the water at the very beginning of the OVA I started crying a little bit.
Ever since watching the new OVA I've had an uncomfortable feeling I haven't had since finishing Origination. I don't know exactly how to describe it, but seeing everyone grown up like that makes me incredibly uncomfortable.
My goodness, the commentary (with Alicia, Akira and Akari's voice actors) was comfy.
Remember to switch to the commentary audio track for your rewatch.
I'm just gonna say it.
I always hated the voices of the cats especially President Aria, I liked him in the manga but the voice ruined him. I also never liked Aika from the way she treats Akari, even if it is meant to be in a teasing way, I still didn't like it and her catchphrase wears of pretty fast. Same with Alice, she's to autistic and the way she brushes of poor Athena who clearly wants to be her firend in the beginning. Don't get me started on that episode with the left hand or something. Akatsuki too was boring, would have been nice if he'd have gotten a bit more character to him.
I love ARIA but those things I never liked.
There is only one problem. OVA is too short. If only we could see season 4...
That's okay, Anon-kun.
I was sometimes annoyed by Aika's catchphrase too, and by Alice's autism. Akari is the true miracle of the universe for me.
In the end I still love them all, but you know, I understand that, Aria threads always being panegyrical, it sometimes feels like you cannot point out what you didnt like. You can, Anon.
Same, but not in a negative way.
Rather than disliking the President's voice, I disliked how it was mixed. It was the pitch I guess a cat would have, but it really would have been good if they brought his volume down a notch or two.
Don't know if I should watch the OVA now. I've been thinking since the first 2 times I watched ARIA were around that time of the year that maybe I should rewatch it first.
I already know my body won't be ready for episode 4.
I feel bad for you guys who can't enjoy President Aria in the anime. He bring a smile to my face every time he shows up.
I'm not sure I want it to happen. We'll never ever get an ending as satisfying as what we had. But then again maybe a little movie or something around the juniors might be cool if they're any good, provided that Amano Kozue does all the story work. Then again it will water down Origination. As it is, you say goodbye to ARIA there, like Akari says goodbye to the life she had up until then, and that's so intense.
>That part in the manga where Amano talks about his real life counterpart dying.
Considering that picture from the earlier ARIA thread, it just looks like it was put through waifu 2x.
I still can't believe how emotional I got watching the last 4 or so episodes of Originiation. Happiness, sadness and a bunch of other emotions just rolled over me.
>tfw Aria's setting is (mostly) a real place
>tfw you could take this picture with you in it
Still waiting for that Akari x Akatsuki episode.
I was most amazed by the simple fact that it's Aria in HD.
The story was nothing new besides a few glimpses of the Ai generation, but it was wonderful nontheless. Absolutely cannot wait for the next episodes.
2nd episode when?
Just started and have already finished season 1 in 3 days.
Why is Aika-chan best girl?
I watch it while my code runs. Makes me hate my job less.
I always loved them. They help make the emotional bits more integrated with the rest of the show so to speak. So it doesn't get too serious and kind of helps them maintain their character.
>makes me wish for a 4th season but at the same time i'm not sure if it could work out
Same here. On the one hand a 4th season would be like a dream come true, but the Origination was such a perfect conclusion to the series that I don't know if there should be any more than these OVAs.
Okay so after finally watching the OVA, I only have one thing to say:
There is no way the person Alicia married is anyone else then Akira.
Because holy shit, this episode was the gayest thing.
>tfw you could take this picture with you in it
And the thousands of tourists swarming in the background - unless you want to photoshop them all out...
Please don't go to Venice and think for even a minute that the charm presented in Neo-Venezia is even comparable to that expensive tourist trap of a city - you might suffer 'Paris syndrome' like the Japanese do when visiting the namesake of that condition.
I'm sorry - just what do you find so offensive about that post?
Why do you feel the need to respond so aggressively.
Sure it's nice to daydream or go imitate your favourite anime but be a little fair headed and and realistic at the same time.
Paris syndrome is a real thing you know.
How do you deal with the fact that you will never go to a terraformed Mars?
Life is really horrible, mate.
Maybe tradition disallows it 300 years into the future on another planet. Or maybe when people were given the option to be shown around Neo Venezia by a cute girl, they all lost their jobs.
bro I've been to Venice multiple times
it's Aria-tier comfy in the winter
you could take that exact picture if you went early in the morning after it rained (note the puddles); it would be similarly quiet
>wherever that is
This comment is 100% American
Yes. Nanairo is the comfiest.
The song is way too long to be the OP, it would haven been perfect if it would have played during the ending scene of Origination.
Is there even something to spoil in ARIA?
Sure there are. Like
Alice's double promotionfor instance.
I feel sorry for you. We're having a great and meaningful time with this show and you can't get into it. It's really a shame.
Even though that's though whole point of Aria.
My favorite quote for Aria as a whole is from ep5 of Animation, when they go to that island for some extra training, and at the end of the day Alicia tells Akari something along the lines of "the world is beautiful in the eyes of beautiful people".
I remember being in St. Mark's Square in the middle of November, at around midnight.
I was pretty much all by myself, except a few people hanging around Florian's. Water began to slowly rise up from the grates on the Piazza, slowly creating a mirror image of the illuminated square.
Winter Venice is comfy as fuck.
So according to this thread is December a good time to go to Venice if I want max comfy? Thinking of planning a trip for the first time this year.
>Winter Venice is comfy as fuck.
I hope I`ll try this
I'm going in the last week of February for the first time.
I'm not expecting it to be like my animes, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't plant the idea.
A few chill days walking around, getting lost and seeing some sights will do me just fine.
I like to imagine that any of the ARIAs could be my granddaughteru.
Going by the series, the best bet for ARIA Company's location would be somewhere on the Riva degli Schiavoni. You can't miss it, it's the major waterside 'road' leading from the Palazzo Ducale all the way down the southern edge of the city.
There's no house there, but it's a damn nice walk. Takes you all the way to Castello from San Marco, meaning fewer crowds and the sight of the impressive Arsenale.
The Avvenire supports this - although, take a look at this screenshot. It seems like the church on San Giorgio Maggiore appears twice...
I bought a tablet for the sole purpose of reading Aria, Dorohedoro, and a few other manga.
I hope it's worth it. The animu is easily my favorite anime.
For anons planning trips, bear in mind a few things:
>Winter temperatures in Venice are in the 30s and 40s (0-7 C), and it's windy
>Christmas and Carnevale will bring tourists, though they can be a lot of fun; check dates. La Biennale will bring tourists too. Also check for public holidays.
>Acqua Alta (yep, real thing) can occur at any time October to February, for a few hours a day
Some autist figured out that Aria Company would be located right about where the vaporetto stop is in the bottom right of this picture.
Y-you could at least post the full thing
that I made Anyone up for a history lesson?
Ever since I got my tablet it's been where I do most of my reading/watching. It's just much more comfy and less distractions.
Jeez better dress light then
Don't get ruined by the soon to come automatization process of society, make sure to survive post-scarcity unemployment. Make sure to get your children a sick as fuck education because social mobility will be zero. Survive the ensuing ethnic conflicts. Remove yourself from areas vulnerable to drought and flooding. After that you can think about who to vote for since nobody has really touched on the subject yet.
What a coincidence! I won't lie, I've not really looked at my books on Venice as of late. There is one, but it's quite specialized - about the abandoned islands in the Lagoon. Always fascinates me how dotted around this huge bustling historical centre lie empty islands, pretty much untouched and ignored by people.
>not cryogenically freeze yourself in private so that you don't have to worry about that bullshit
Aria > Mushishi > Natsume yuujinchou > Non non biyori > Gochuumon
The OVA reminded me why Akira is second best girl (Akari forever best girl).
Don't do this guys, it was shitty bait.
What does he mean by that?
Bashing other series and responding to bashers is
I want to see Al and Aika being stupid cute in this summer.
That actually sounds quite cool, if it were possible without it being cleared away. Just some knick-knacks with the Aria Company logo or something.
Something to unite autists around the world.
BD box when?
I'm not sure if I should rewatch the old version or wait.
Does it get better later on?
I just finished season 1, and I'm not that impressed honestly.
Well that definitely convinced me, thanks!
I WANNA BE A SAIKYOU HEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Reminded me I need to watch the last season of Natsume. I just haven't watched anime in the past few years.
Came back for muh Aria. Hope the miracle of universe has a big role in the OVAs.
But this is an Aria thr..
You know what? Screw you. I'm not letting a OPMfag show me.
KIN NO NAMI KISHIBE NI
DEKKAI DEKKAI DEKKAI DEKKAI
SHIAWASE DESU KA NA?
I just discovered this song.
It's incredibly good!
It's silly as hell, I like it because I think Alice is the cutest.
I really enjoy basically all vocal songs in the series, weirdly enough. My favorites are probably the Yui Makino and Round Table songs.
You must acquire the all the OSTs and listen to them.
you made me remember the stagione tracks included in the piano collection
>dat comfiness with Akari
she's there, but since the VA died, I don't think you'll find a lot of her in the next chapters
Do you guys think Kozue Amano will revisit the world of Aria after she's done with Amanchu? I just hope she doesn't retire to be a mother or something, which would be weird because her child should be a couple years old by now.
Also, translations of her earlier works never ;_;
I don't know, to be honest. In one side, I'd love to get more Aria and its universe, but everything ended perfectly
Some OVAs, "hidden episodes" and that stuff would always be nice, like that episode where Akatsuki was following Akari and this song begins
Regarding timeframes in this series, do they measure the years in mars or earth years? Its a bit confusing. For instance, alicia is like 19 at the start of the series but she looks mid 20s. And by the end it would either be 3 or 6 years respectively. Also, whens the ova meant to take place. Akari looks a good 7-8 years older and ai looks the same as she did in origination.
I believe they say that every Mars year is 2 Earth years. Akari starts 15 as I remember, so she should end as a 21 y.o. or something like that, since I think 3 Mars years pass.
I'm not sure though.
Yeah, it's kinda weird. Ai should have +6 years since the first time she went to Aqua, but she barely ages in the series
speaking of which, I felt that in the Avvenire, Akari looked younger, in comparion with the last episode of The Origination where she's a Prima and Ai's a Pair
Yeah akaris priima design is slightly younger looking than end of origination. Going by the fact ai is a (implied recently) single i think its fair to say not a whole heap of time has passed. I dont remember clearly, how long did akari take to reach single glove?
>seasons change due to distance from the sun
>seasons change due to distance from the sun
So, just so you guys don't keep digging this hole. Seasons happen because of the angle of incidence of a given hemisphere to the orbital plane. That's why it's summer in Australia when it's winter up here.
Mars seasons would be 1/4 it's orbital period. So twice as long as earth's, with 4 seasons per year.
I mean, I guess it's technically true depending on how you interpret that statement.
Just realized, isn't that the same organ playing from the one episode where Alice and Aika stalk Akari to see how she makes friends, and then they get to see the puppet guy?
Love that one.
>isn't that the same organ playing from the one episode where Alice and Aika stalk Akari to see how she makes friends, and then they get to see the puppet guy?
I don't really remember but gotta check it out.
I don't think they ever explained it. Kinda bugs me how president Aria went from being completely unresponsive to Grandma and then at some point became how he is now.
He didn't respond at first because he was busy doing his thing with the endless blue, but when Grandma said she wanted to join him, to see what he sees, he opened up to her. It's not like he could literally always stare out, he had to eat some times. It's just that over time he wanted to be more and more with humans.
>see The Animation again
>that episode when Neo-Venezia had Aqua Alta
>"wait a minute, didn't The Natural...?"
>it had another Aqua Alta episode
one of the things about Aria is how "close to home" is. Recently I finished college, and somehow, I felt something similar when I saw The Origination. I just started to get far away from my friends, but not because I wanted to, but rather life starts changing
What the fuck IS Aria. He's a cat that's lived like what, over 30 years with no signs of going any time soon? And he seems to be buds with Cait Sith as well.
Is this like some martian chronicle thing where the souls of dead martians read the minds of humans and take on a form that is comprehensible to them?
Considering what human are capable of, pets are probably somehow genetically enhanced in order to become lifelong partners to humans.
Or it's magic.
Somehow Mars made even timetravel possible, among all other cat-based magic.
Have you guys seen some of the pictures Curiosity's sent back yet?
It's actually just a part of the photo out of context. For scale, the thing in the bottom right corner is the rover's wheel, so the "woman" is actually tiny.
If you really think about it the humans in aria are some next level shit technology wise
-artificial gravity mastered
-able to synthesize elements on a planetary scale
-interplanetery travel is commonplace
-can control an entire planets weather from a centralized command center.
-terraforming entire planets
-earth is heavily implied to be a post scarcity society.
As far as scifi goes the aria humans are auite OP. the nest part about it though is they never really dwell on just how crazy that is. One of the better examples of 'show, dont tell' in anime
Im not sure. I dont quite remember the details that were vaguely covered in the anime. Maybe the manga had more concrete info. It really reminds me of YKK. Near singularity tier humanity who much rather enjoy everyday life as opposed to abuse such technological advancement
Aria > Sketchbook ~Full Color's~ > NieA_7 > Non Non Biyori > All Other SoLs
No, because YKK's guiding thematic is sorrow, and Aria's guiding thematic is hope. Honestly I've never been able to into YKK because of how much the premise destroys my suspension of disbelief. "Humanity is dying out, but they're just sort of gently accepting it"...yeah, no. Sorry. Humans going extinct with grace is not something that would ever happen.
On the other hand, I'm an enormous yurifag and the gynoid gets the gynoid, so.
No, please warn me. I haven't watched it yet since I'm toying with rewatching the whole franchise first, and if it has problems I don't want to risk damaging the magic without foreknowledge.
I watched Aria for the very first time over 7 years ago, and I'm still surprised at how happy I feel watching it again and again, like it's still the first time.
And I still cry like a bitch
>tfw dont' want to marathon the series but I really want to watch another episode ight now
One episode per day, Anon. Any more and you're wasting it, and it's far too precious to waste.
I'm a little late to the party but I thought YKK's scenario was fantastic. There appears to have been a war in the backstory, and there's abandoned science scattered all over the story. By the point of YKK, they've reached the end of their route.
Like people on their death beds always seem to go gentle, humanity's already moved past the death throes and into humility.
Please anon just one more episode I promise I will follow the 1 episode per day rule tomorrow
I watched 1 episode a day for the whole thing, most comfiest 2 months of my life. Every night felt so different once it finished.
tfw nothing to fill the void
Sorry, overriden by glorious senpai-tachi.
>had a frustrating day
>decide to pick a random chapter
>read this chapter and get to this page
Doesn their romance go anywhere?
If holding hands isn't enough for you in terms of their romance then I don't know what is.
The subtle romance between the two is done so well that I almost want some sort of confirmation that they're together. But the way it's always teased is perfect as well.
Be sure to read/watch Aria in bed.
Looking at the relief of Mars it would need a lot of water to flood most of it.
Also flooding most of it would mean that only mountains would be left, so no flat land but sloped terrain around the old giant volcanoes.
I think we just shouldn't take that so serious.
You forgot YKK.
>tfw Al grew by sheer willpower
Terraformed Mars in real would probably look like this.
This thread is still alive, how cute. I love you, /a/.
>tfw when you stumble upon an aria thread and realise there is more to it than just aria the animation
Anons, i think this is one of the best days of my life, how much of a ride am i in for?
It was good but short, makes me miss it just as much as I'm happy there's more.
I already fapped to Alicia this year. Is it really bad - sexualize the undines?
(C85) [Alice no Takarabako (Mizuryu Kei)] YARIMAN (ARIA)
The art is fine and hot, but I dislike the plot with horny slutty Alicia. Anyway her body and face are amazing.
I personally didn't like Tamayura though I did watch the OVA and the first season. It had nothing what made ARIA great, the characters are forgettable and the OST too. Also photography isn't something I find interesting to begin with.
Mars really gets my autism going. I probably know the geography better than Earth's after playing with maps. I want to live in the Xanthe region, down by Mariner Valley. I want it with every fiber of my body.
It went on too long IMHO. The OVAs were great, and Hitotose was alright, but in the end it's just another four-girl CGDCT without the magical setting and understated execution of Aria.
On the other hand, I certainly don't begrudge that Tamayura has apparently done very well for itself, since it hopefully means more iyashikei anime.
Listening to this while the snow whirls around outside. The floating kind that shows up only when it's really cold and the wind is gentle.
For me personally, part of the problem was with the characters themselves. For whatever reason they just didn't resonate with me like with Aria, or other CGDCT like Sketchbook or NNB. Fot iyashikei to really work for me I need to have that investment so that the emotional moments have the power to move me, which wasn't the case with Tamayura.
That's not to say I didn't enjoy watching it - it was still a nice show, but middle of the road and ultimately fairly forgettable.
Aria music is truly wonderful. Every time.
I've a few wallpapers I got recently on /w/ so I'll dump them here.
That chapter was pretty neat
I hate how, in the anime, Alicia seems like somebody too busy to spend 5 minutes with Akari, while in the manga is stated that they always have practices after breakfast
More of a screenshot but it doesn't matter.
Sorry, I don't know the names of all the regions, I just want to live where Neo Venezia is situated.
On a sidenote, how do we make Mars have more sunlight? Mars desperately needs more energy on its surface. I was pondering that question a bit earlier and thought about some giant lens in space that focuses more sunlight to Mars. It had to be in a synchronized orbit with Mars though yet closer to the sun, so it wouldn't have a stable orbit. Maybe a small black hole that works as a gravitational lens would work.
And my favourite and current background.
This was mine for a very long time.
Talking about wallpapers.
We'll probably have fusion energy down by the time we are on Mars, so I don't really see a problem with energy. As for getting a nice temperature, we just greenhouse gas that shit up to max. The atmosphere will escape again eventually, but Mars had oceans for a hell of a long time, so by the time the atmosphere goes away Earth may not even be habitable anymore.
"After terraforming , Mars would once again lose its capacity to support life. But 100 million years is a long time. In fact, Earth might not be habitable for much longer than that. As the sun continues to brighten, Earth will succumb to a runaway greenhouse effect. The oceans will evaporate, creating Venus- like conditions unsuitable for life. So our second planetary home might last almost as long as our first."
-Christopher P. McKay , planetary scientist at NASA Ames Research Center, studying planetary atmospheres, astrobiology, and terraforming. He said this to nationalgeographic.
For any Anons planning on heading to Venezia, you can find this spot in the Campo San Moise.
You can't miss it if you follow the signs from S. Marco to the Ponte dell'Accademia.
Just read up that Mars gets 44% of Earth's solar irradiation, that's actually quite good, it could be compensated with Greenhouse gases if they manage to hold the gases in the atmosphere. Lets leave that to the Gnomes.
I guess so.
This art is new for me. Thanks.
Yeah, Mars is a lot nicer than it seems at first glance. According to a find by Curiosity, using the Radiation Assessment Detector, the radiation levels on Mars are similar to those of sub-orbital Earth. Though for a limited time, astronauts can definitely live in these conditions already. Solar flares may be a problem, but not enough to just delete all progress with terraformation. Eventually it shouldn't be a problem at all, since charged-particle radiation is less when the atmosphere is thicker.
This thread is so comfy, my dear /A/RIAbros.
I'm touring tokyo right now, been here a week and I finally found a copy of the manga and a full set of Animation. This is so satisfying to own.
the manga is absolutely beautiful in print guys
Undine dress is pretty sexy in some way.
Does anyone have the newer RightStuf dvd collections? I have the old boxsets and the packaging is excellent, would be sad if they had downgraded.
Figure hugging in all the right places, and sometimes teasingly revealing.
I want to
make sweet tender loveto grown-up Akari.
rainbow or natsu machi
I still haven't watched the OVA, I feel like watching the entire series prior to it or just waiting for everything to come out. Are the BDs shit? Has digital anime forever ruined good upscales?
Am I the only one that actually avoids listening to Aria's music too often? I don't want to ruin them through overplay. Thanks to this they still hold magic for me after all these years when they come up on random play.
That's a shame, I was hoping at least the first season would get a decent treatment
I was just watching Aria the Natural and I got to the postman episode, the one with the teacher who got married. She was voiced by Matsuki Miyu, who died last year before ever getting married. Right in the feels.
Hope she's in a gondola with someone dear right now.
She's sitting in a gondola with Eri Kawai and Tomoko Kawakami, Eri is singing for them.
Man, I'm so jealous of your vol 4 box. It's the only anime box I'm missing (my BD box is not in the picture).
This is some magical stuff.
Spiders are honorable hunters. Where I live, we get large and beautiful golden silk orb weavers in the fall. Watching them sit motionless in their webs, hour after hour, waiting, will teach you the meaning of patience.
I envy these beautiful webs that spiders do. In my country we have a lots of tarantulas, they live underground so we don't see much of them making webs.
but they look so fluffy and cute and rarely try to bite
I thought this show wasn't lewd.
>all of the artbooks
I'm genuinely jealous.
Damn. This image depresses me. It reminds me that I'm pushing 30 and have never experienced any sense of unity, belonging, or simple fulfillment as they have...
I just finished the special navigation chapter
>she knew allthe time, from the beginning, that she and Akari would separate
>she still carried on
Thanks, there were a few I'd never seen before. Have some of mine.
And the one I'm currently using, even if it's for ants.
Haven't changed my wallpaper since I watched it. I really love Aria.
See if you can find them on Mandarake (check their Japanese site too, it has an English version as well). Usually they are cheap, shipping doesn't cost much and they avoid customs. I bought mine in various stores in Japan, including Mandarake.
What you're referring to is the MOSE project, and they'll get around to finishing it eventually, maybe within a year or so. It's been over a decade, and there have been a few minor setbacks like billion-euro overruns and entire city administrations going to prison for graft. Standard Italy stuff desu
Fun fact: an artificial island was built as a construction site and will be torn down after everything is finished, in order to have zero effect on the landscape (marescape?).
Remember not to marathon it. Watch 1 episode a day to relax after you get home for maximum comfy.
