Fuck that shit. I usually don't care about spoilers but that death is so infuriating you should have put off watching the series until you'd forgotten. It's meant to be experienced in all its jarring annoyance.

I still don't get why they skipped this fight
Because it was funny as fuck and seeing the fight in preview only has you imagining it better than they could ever animate it. It was a master stroke, mate.
That and it didn't serve story purpose. They way they did it better served the narrative.
And I remember the entire time I was anticipating the fight not realising what the fuck the occured until after the episode ended. It really adds a good amount of surprise if you had no idea it was coming.
Wait a while, watch it again.
The first time I saw Katanagatari it made no sense I didn't really like it. The second time though, it became one of my favorites.
