Why does Key continually keep their shows to 13 episodes? I fucking loved Angel Beats but it was rushed plot wise due to episode number. Same thing with Charlotte. They spend the first 6 or 7 episodes on slice of life stuff then try and jam a dramatic major story arc into the last 5 or 6 episodes. Maybe not 24 episodes but is there anything keeping them from doing a 15 or 16 episode season?

It's okay to admit it, because the show's not playing fair. "Ghost fades away into oblivion" is the second saddest stock scenario in all of fiction. It doesn't matter if the characters are bad, the plot was rushed, etc etc. You'll still tear up because it is what it is.

All the drama of death magnified by magic fantasy powers. Death where the characters can see it coming and cry about it beforehand. Death without reasoning, there's nothing forcing it to happen, usually just because they feel they "have to do it", or failing that, simple exhaustion. Death completely free of pain and violence, one minute they're there, the next, there's just a hole. There's no way to make it sadder.

The circumstances don't matter. It works every time.
