This is the thread where you post the oldest /a/ image you have saved.
Or maybe the one that you've never gotten a chance to use?
Now this takes me back. Why is the blonde guy's hair so fabulous?
Nowhere near my oldest, but related to yours.
What was the actual origin of the term "DFC" anyway? Was there a specific original or did it just sort of form up organically?
I think it came from /l/, originally.
I have a 4Gb hard drive running windows 98 with stuffs from 4chin and e-hentai from before 2005 but I don't have a computer old enough to plug it.
Oldest picture I can find on my hard drive, from 2013.
I lost a lot of shit when my other one died, it still hurts.
They were the two series that dominated that summer.
He's baiting, AOTD was obviously
I miss the era when so many of our memes were shared with
/v/back when they were (less) cancerous.
Not really an old image, but I recently found out my favorite band is into the same /m/ shit I am.
Subs are matched to the character's hair colors
>Subs are matched to the character's hair colors
Remember when we were still one with /jp/?
You couldn't take screenshots with MadVR back then
I used to have the complete set of these, but lost them in an HD failure I'll see if I can dig them up again...
>5 year old laptop with 60GB HDD and windows XP fails
>HDD can't even boot with Loonix
>my anime spread sheet and memes from 2006 are lost
>decide to just reformat the drive to keep the computer usable.
It was only about 15GB of images and music anyway. The rest of the space was video and manga I deleted regularly.
The oldest macros I have are in a pentium 4 dell that is in my parents house.
I moved away in 2009 but I had a laptop back then which then died.
My oldest drive is from 2010 so that's the oldest I have, back when godhand was a regularly posted meme.
So I'd say not worth it.
how do you cap with subs on btw
I mean, while using the program
HDD crashes are the worst. It's like a piece of me has been forever lost. If only /g/ had schooled me to backup back then
My /b/ anime related images are actually older than my /a/ images.
And my 2chan images are older than my /b/ images.
>Current Seagate is over three years old
I remember when you ended a greentext story with >my face
Goddammit - they are MiA. Here is another classic, though...
I started posting around when Lucky Start started airing, so I guess that'd make me Newfag according to that one chart.
If you didn't get to experience this place before the vans exploded, you really missed out on the best of times. Nothing to do with nostalgia, but as a matter of quality and freshness.
>Dat AMV Hell skit.
I miss the Katawa Broujo chronicles ;_;
I still got to experience the glory days of /jp/, so that's fine.
And I met some of my best internet friends through this place. The people here have been great.
>That one oil platform /k/ wanted to take over to become 4CHANLAND.
>Katawa Shoujo OC and CYOA threads
which are lost forever now ;_;
>HARMONY I WANNA BE WITH YOU.
>GAR FOR ARCHER
Fuck no matter how bad this place gets I'll always have these memories.
I don't have access to any of my proper vintage stuff as it's on an IDE hard drive I can't plug in at the moment but I feel this gif is relevant.
Can't hold these lemons meme spunn off good RIP
I think AMV Hell 3 was still able to give me some chuckles.
It also had some good moments.
That's a meme that lived a good healthy life and death. I wish God Hand edits would come back.
Did they ever find cracky-chan? I remember a lot of people were really dedicated in looking for her. She even had a few chan-sites of her own, probably still does
Cockmongler and Happy Negro are in Gensokyo now with TEH Rei, they don't know pain and are happy
Ohellur /8/, im name Chops Hongdong. I usdually wat herpderp 5sham and I do mud backflip too, as do you. AIDS AIDS LOL. I also bike having LOL with faggotry (KIDS DON'T KNOW ABOUT MY RICKROLL), chop the shops, do an anal roll and i just lit a match. you guys are all newfags and cancer so i know that /wg/ is in posession of a great variety of "BGs", HURR DURR HURR DER DERP HERP DERP. i SUCK COCKS, I need Moot to deliver to an faggot some of his sexy penis
Did we waste our lives or did we see the beginning of internet memes.
We were the first explorers, the pioneers. It's not something to be proud of, but they can never take the good times from you.
This was actually the very first one I had too.
Here's the second.
I used to have tons of images from 2006. Then when I was migrating my files to a new hdd I realized I don't care about memes anymore, and neither does /a/ nowadays. So I just deleted those folders. It felt like a burden was lifted from my shoulders honestly.
aparently this is the first one back in 2005
>its been 11 years
The timestamp says 09, but I'm fairly sure I saved this way earlier.
To this day every time I hear one of the original audio sources my mind instinctively expects the static and the next skit.
Can't find the folder, but i remember the earliest img i saved from 4chins was of some riced out mod cars i then immediately posted on b0g.org and told everyone the good news about teh funneh imageboard with stupid anime freaks.
but then i became the anime freak, 10ish years later and i'm basically the same person except for my heavily increased mass.
pic more or less related
If your XySubFilter or whatever you use if properly configured then just set this setting in MadVR.
It should allow you to use internal screencap unless you have something else fucking up your subtitle layer.
wew, didn't know I had to get that
I just use the MPC-HC, but thanks anyways
Also to add to that, it was a short h-manga or doujin, don't remember, but someone had made a fake translation, that pic was part of the fake, and included a bunch of 4chan memes in it. It was mostly about cake
>2009 was 7 years ago
it really doesn't feel like that much
reminded me of this, i've posted it so many times i should print it out and put it in a box in my basement.
In June, I'll have been on this website for 10 years.
I wipe my hard drive every year or two and don't save much in the first place.
Have a googled image of one of my fonder memories instead.
I thought I'd lost everything, but there's actually some old stuff on my ancient photobucket.
Fuck, I totally forgot about that picture, but "NICE BIG BREAST!!!" has been in my lexicon ever since those days.
This is one of the best things that's ever come from /a/. Every time I see people cosplaying the twins I think of that "I heard once that this is how you get pussy at anime conventions" line.
These should mostly date to around '05, by the way
Although I think that last one may be more like '07, I don't feel like it's quite that old.
Nazi Azumanga stuff was always a favorite in the old days.
the fact that we didn't consider shit like this cringeworthy in 04 or so shows just how much the world has changed.
>All these images from 2004-2005
Fuck, I didn't know there were so many oldfags still around. Feels good man.
Fuck, I miss mid-late 00s-era 4chan.
I'm pretty sure this was from the last decade. There was a time when a lot of Yotsuba edits were posted.
I started coming here regularly in about the spring of 2006, a magical time when Haruhi Suzumiya, Higurashi, and Musashi Gundou were all the rage.
And finally, this one isn't directly old /a/ content, but it was mixed in there and I thought you guys might find it funny - my own battlest/a/tion circa '05, resplendent with CRT monitors and TV and the typical trappings of a 19 year old weeaboo fucktard of the period.
I lost some of my old sorted folders but I knew I had some nazi Osaka in my unsorted ones
This is all I found
I'd totally forgotten the name too, until I found the file.
"Oh ho, why not whore ourselves?" will forever be part of my vocabulary, though.
I found one more interesting tangential thing that I'd completely forgotten about: 4ch, 4chan's text-only boards!
One day people will be saying the same thing about images we post now.
Board culture is an interesting, yet very transient thing.
Side note, what is the best way to prepare for an inevitable (let's face reality) HDD crash?
The obvious solution is some kind of RAID array, but I don't have enough money to shell out for the extra hardware - my understanding is that for RAID, you'd need at least twice the space of what you want to be constantly backing up. And there are different RAIDs one can use.
The barbarian, caveman solution that I have going right now is that there is an old 2TB external drive I just dumped all the things I really care about into, and every few months I go in and update it. But this is prohibitively time consuming and I'd rather not just delete everything on the external storage and start mass-copying data all my to it again each time. In fact I did this once, and decided it was for retards (currently, me).
Is some kind of RAID array the only way to go to combat failures? Is buying 2 or more times the necessary space a large but worthwhile investment? Cause If any of my HDDs crashed (currently, 4), I'd run towards the nearest living thing and kill it. Luckily, I haven't had a single crash yet, despite leaving my computer on large amounts of time. (For those curious, the brands I use are: 3 WDC drives (one from 2006), a MAXTOR drive (from 2008), and an intel SSD, newest.)
>The barbarian, caveman solution that I have going right now is that there is an old 2TB external drive I just dumped all the things I really care about into
That's what I'm doing, and I don't care for any new-fangled approach to doing it you may throw at me.
In all seriousness, a HDD crash is one of my greatest fears.
No, "board culture" is just ever-present off-topic cancer that faggots use as an apology when they don't want to discuss anything board-related. 2004 cancer is still cancer even if it's "we oldfags now".
Feel free to talk about things that happened in past, but most people here just posted image macros or reaction images, barely anything that could be labeled good old OC.
I have so many of these that I would never post anymore.
But I can't imagine deleting them.
I honestly can't even remember what I did with them.
I had a bunch on my Photobucket, so I must have posted them elsewhere, but I can't even imagine what other site I would have been posting /a/ meme shit on.
Maybe I was linking friends to them on AIM or something.
not that old since i've lost harddrives, but it says this was made 2007
What is it you don't understand? Do you seriously consider image reaction worthwhile and welcomed content? People hated it then and just because it's a history now it doesn't really change anything.
What does that have to do with demotivators? They're completely different.
>one of the easiest way to kill a thread?
Demotivators were just used the same way Smug Anime Girl™ reaction images are used now. They weren't something people spammed.
Anonymous it's clear you're just talking out of your ass at this point.
>tfw I still have all of the scans from when the book and audio drama were posted
I didnt have the pic anymore but i still remember this one
Some probably desperatly tried to forget
>we'll never have this ever again
I don't see as much of this face as I used to.
There are still people and companies who use XP or even much older systems, I'm a developer so I test applications on all platforms from win95 to win10 to ensure consistency across all systems, but I guess if you're a basement dwelling nobody like you, I imagine you don't give a fuck about the real world.
>Some places have old ass backwards systems
>This somehow means that they aren't useless, outdated shit
I have some art from code geass that cannot be found anywhere on the internet, or atleast, I thought it did. but its pretty old
RAID is only useful to keep business running, it's shit for home users because it needs to be mantained and can still fail catastrophically.
Copying to another drive/another computer in the network is the best solution, and there's plenty of software to automatize it.
Using a modern filesystem like ZFS,Btrfs also helps to make sure data is really intact.
It's also best to use mid-sized HDDs (currently 2TB), to not put everything in one basket and because they should be more reliable.
So asking the real question here, why is /a/ so casual now? From what i see it is the norm for naruto thread to be posted everyday with 500+ posts
Sometime i wish Accelerator would come back
I doubt anyone would even know this, /a/ is like /v/ at this point
What happened to the text boards anyways? Moot said he put them in archive only mode, but I cannot for the life of me access them, when I use the old URL I get redirected to the main site.
I asked Emperor Hirohito to put them back in the Q&A but he never responded.
Rare footage before /a/ turned into casual shit by moot and mods
You could post him now.
I don't have any older ones(this is from 2010), but I still remember that in 2007 people were using the pepe "feels good man" image and also the that really rustled my jimmy's gorilla with out any second though just as a reaction.
I'm pretty sure it was in 2011 when fucking /v/-summerfags ran this images to the ground and ">ISHYGDDT" got popular.
I think that was a bad year for 4chan, but a fun year overall.
/sp/ is the OC factory, the only one who came close was old /r9k/
This was my first day on /a/. I was literally in this thread and witnessed all the shit storm
>mfw was in the "teach her how to menstruate" thread
It was /sp/ retarded 2011 based bro culture explosion begining with mocking users putting ketchup in the fridge.
/g/are underrated memesters tho. They started promotions black guy (obviously a lot of overlap with /a/)
You kids and your oniichun and your 4chanY, back in my days we had to use noko to stay in the thread and we liked it
>obscure websites from over a decade ago
It's not obscure and it's not "over a decade ago". I'm just sick of seeing clueless retards like you talking about shit know nothing about.
These threads are the worst jesus christ
I remember when fatefags tried to do their shitty roleplay and fanfiction on here everyday
I do advanced data recovery and computer repair. HDD's will crash, it's not a matter of if but when. The best option is to have several backups. You do not need a RAID, they are more trouble then they are worth to set up and when the RAID itself fails, which it will, getting the data
