Do you think anime could be successful in mainstream America if it was marketed differently
>>
>>121403774
Yes if it was marketed like
>ACTION
>KAPOW! BOOM
>AND TITS
>AND ASSES
>AND FREEDOM
>AND NO PLOT TO DEEPFRY YOUR NUT-SIZED BRAINS
>>
>>121403811
Most anime already doesn't have plot
>>
>>121403811
you just summed up most anime, minus freedom.
>>
>>121403811
Thats just anime
>>
>>121403774
No, even in Japan late night anime are manly watched by only a niche audience.
>>
>>121404086
Hasn't pretty much everybody got a recorder box, so they don't have to stay up to watch their shows?

Pity the market will never fully embrace streaming, since they rely on BD sales too much.
>>
Anime is already popular in the mainstream, just not the anime anyone on /a/ would consider "good".

Even more so since this shit happened: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPZDBF0kei0

God you sound like a pathetic weeb.
Are you posting this from school? Taking a break from telling everyone about how you watch superior television?
>>
>>121404190
I don't know what you think popular in the mainstream means. Popular in the mainstream would be rivaling US animated shows that everyone has heard of like Simpsons or Family Guy, those are popular in the mainstream.
>>
>>121403811
So... like anime already is?
>>
>>121404086
Anime, even late night anime, are more popular in Japan than the naysayers try to make you believe.
>>
>>121404190
Outside of Ghibli, even kids/family anime is pretty poorly marketed.

I doubt it helps that stores tend to put emphasis on the fanservice series, i know weaboos over here seem to have delusions of having better taste... but fanservice shit is typically the best selling after shounen series over here.
>>
>>121404228
God that pic makes me cringe every time I see it
>>
>>121404283
Anything liked outside of 4chan is mainstream.
>>
>>121404291
Yet clearly not anywhere near mainstream considering they often have to pay/give up share in profits to be on television and only manage to sell 2-3000 copies of their discs on average in a country of 128 million.
>>
>>121404291
iirc, tons of people in japan like certain mainstream shows, but will draw a blank at other series.

Like, ask someone if they like Anime they'd give you that filthy otaku look, ask if they like One Piece and they'd go "i fukkin love that show"
>>
We still can't even get Cartoons to be taken seriously, how the fuck do you expect us to make Anime mainstream?
>>
>>121404355
Implying 4chan isnt already mainstream.
>>
>>121404355
4chan is mainstream as fuck now.
Not as much as leddit sure but its almost there.
>>
>>121404355
4chan is a top 500 website
>>
>>121404378
AFIK it's almost impossible to get recently airing stuff outside of tokyo and a few major cities, due to the way regional broadcasting works in japan.

Plus rental is still a huge market over there, people will rent series over buying them. Which is partly why the discs are so fucking expensive.

mainstream ruins everything, anime is better as niche media
>>
>>121403774
The day anime becomes mainstream is the day it dies.
>>
>>121404488
>due to the way regional broadcasting works in japan

Dude what are you telling me Japan has different TV stations per prefecture and you cant air something in more than one of them
>>
>>121403774
Only if whitewashed, like Hollywood does when publishing remakes.
>>
>>121404391
We go for the legend of korra audience. So pretty much just stooping down light novel adaptations.
>>
>>121404559
Something like that, AT-X is exclusively available in the tokyo area for example.

I think marketing anime isn't a problem, for the most part this >>121403811 is what most people think when you say the word anime. Its not wrong it's just a simplistic view of it.

The promos I see are all like the older ones on Toonami and just makes anything look like a Saturday morning cartoon.

If you pander to westerners you end up with Watanabe works which isn't bad but doesn't sell well in japan nor is a good representation of other anime.

subtitles just aren't for everyone and availability is also an issue. Dubs are abysmal most of the time so I don't fault most people for not watching good quality anime if they cant do subtitles and they native language dubbed anime are limited.

Its just not that popular and I've come to face that fact.

The "anime/manga in the west" bubble bursted 10 years ago OP
>>
If you are a video games fan you would never wish for anime to become mainstream.
>>
I don't think i'd ever want it to be mainstream over here, but it would be nice if the international audience is taken seriously by the studios.

Some studios have taken the risk of doing series that appeal to non-japanese audiences... but it's a pretty big risk if it bombs. It's easier to just keep pandering to the otaku to keep the lights on than to sink a ton of money and work with overseas companies.

Then again, plenty of people over here enjoy the pandering series.
>>
>>121404665
Do Japanese game developers pander to American audiences? Then why should anime producers? Anime is SJWproof.
>>
>>121404665
Im a videogame fan and I think they are better than ever, there are mainstream games and niche games, actually Ive never played as many new niche or otaku games as Im doing right now.
>>
>>121404289
>>121404017
>>121403915
Then it's already mainstream
/thread.
>>
>>121403774

The stuff that would be popular with young boys is ever so slightly too "mature" in content for cartoon channels to play during daytime/evening outside of dedicated "anime/matureish" content.

Likewise, stuff that would do better with a young adult - middle aged audience is slightly too "immature" for your typical daytime/primetime channels to drop any of their precious cop-procedural shows for.

Sure there's exceptions to those rules, but it sure as hell not gonna convince any TV execs anytime soon.
>>
Has there ever been a non-English TV show or movie with mainstream popularity in the US? There have been a few songs like the Macarena and more recently Gangnam Style, but I can't think of any films.
>>
Please no, the average American ruins everything he comes in contact with.

Whether be a movement(feminism for instance) or a whole country(see M.E).
>>
>>121404747
>>121404780
Yeah its true that japanese devs are ok but triple AAA western games are just so disgusting.
>>
>>121403915
>Most slice of life already doesn't have plot

Fixed that for you, except for your shit grammar.

They always were.
The phrase west game is kusogame already existed 20 years ago for a reason
>>
>>121404824
Well who the fuck cares, all the best series come from Japan anyway.
>>
Just slap in a lot of action and gore then make it easily accessible for normalfags
>>
They already tried
The best they can do these days is wait for stull like KLK or titans and then market the fuck out of them, but 1 or 2 shows per year cannot sustain shit.
>>
>>121403774
Yes if
>girls were min age of 18
>People stopped acting like dickless faggots who can't kiss a girl
>Shit didn't always take place in a high school
>No talking animals
>Plot devices don't come out of no where to save the day
>>
>>121404815
There's a handful of foreign films that get popular in the US Generally due being Oscar nominees or festival darlings.
>>
>>121405120
>Plot devices don't come out of no where to save the day

Implying this doesn't happen in the west
>>
>>121405120
>Plot devices don't come out of no where to save the day
Thats been happening since the times of greek theater.
>>
>>121405163
It does but not as much, or at least they are done within reason of the characters capabilities
>>
>>121403774
Why would you want your nation to be even more insufferable and less educated?
