They're pretty edible if you like sweet things. I don't eat that much sweet things except for fresh fruits and maybe as a nuance using honey or maple syrup in dishes. Aside from that I have an intolerance toward them and I don't really miss eating them either way.
And it's not like Azuki soup tastes the same as the paste does. Mochi is more like an acquired taste for the food's texture too.
