>>
Oh boy, a general about a bunch of attention whores posting localized shounen.

Fuck off with this goddamn thread, you don't need to make a second one at all, much less before the other one is fucking dead.
>>
>>121120821
haha you still here meng?
>>
>>121120745
>buying localized shit
Why even bother
>>
>>121120821
i must agree,

there's buyfag if you want to discuss products. what's the points of this, dick-measuring?
>>
>>121120821
>Salt.png
>>121120963
What is the point of anything on this board not specifically geared towards discussing new episodes/chapters?
>>
>>121120928

The ride never ends.

also, I forgot to post my latest purchases. Got all of shigurui, it was really worth the shipping cost.
>>
A lot of manga is shit, which is why the majority only manage the standard low quality prints. Yet for some inconceivable reason, people buy them and treat their volumes like gold as if it weren't already spread all over the internet like cancer.

Hardcover? Full color? Coffee table sized? Now that's collectible that's worth getting and bragging about. Pick up the Collector's Edition Akira, pick up the Anniversary Tezuka, not the A5 shounen jump garbage. This sort of casual displays is no different from the 'post your MAL accounts' thread. If you want to circlejerk or show off, at least have something worth showing off, damn it.
>>
>>121120928
>haha
>meng
What do you mean "am I still here"?
>>121120945
>uses "moeshit"
>thinks a manga board would be good
Yeah, you'd all be able to post your tokyopop shelves 24/7, like battlestation threads on /g/.
>once in a while
Wow, it's almost as like you didn't just have a thread reach bump limit.
>>
>>121121015
This board isn't your fucking blog, for one. There were maybe 5 actual collections in the last thread, the rest was all shitposting or shitty iPhone pictures of localized crap.
>>
>>121120745
>about to 404
Then fucking wait for it to.
The thread was up for a full day. We really don't need another one.
>>
>>121120963
To be fair, buyfag threads are full of figurefags. I think a separate general manga thread is better rather than sifting through figures. There is plenty to talk about regarding collections and shit, see >>121076154
>>
>>121120963
Viz pays some poor intern to shill on /a/, probably. Notice how every thread has that one guy pushing and defending Viz releases.
>>
>>121120947
because it's much much cheaper. I'm not a poorfag but I can't afford 200$ shipping cost plus taxes every other week.

also, at least 1/3 in that picture is imported since I have all of GANTZ
>>
>>121121044
>implying i'm not being facetious
>>
>>121083310
I have seen the comparison between the Japanese releases and the Viz ones. The lack of color pages IS a pretty big deal, mate. If you're gonna spend money collecting manga you like, then I say you should do it properly.
>>
>>121121085
>I think a seperate general about buying things is better than a general about buying things
Everything gets talked about in buyfag threads, you idiots would just get shitposted to hell because you're attention whores with awful collections.
>>121121118
>because it's much much cheaper.
It's actually more expensive.
>>
>>121121172
>you idiots would just get shitposted to hell
and yet that last shelf thread was decent.
>>
>>121121172
>you idiots would just get shitposted to hell because you're attention whores with awful collections.
Pretty much this. I've posted my manga/doujin collections in buyfag threads, no problem.
>>
the last thread was good. I enjoyed the solid 24 hours it was up. We covered a lot of stuff. I support these threads, but an immediate followup thread doesn't really seem necessary.
>>
the shitposter claim to hate these threads but dive right in to shitpost
>>
>>121121118
The price per vol for localised content is far higher.
>>
>>121121235
That last shelf thread was full of idiots posting localized shit and acting like it was a collection rather than something to increase their e-peen to other casuals.
>>
Fuck off. Once in a while is all right, but there's no need for 24/7 thread, faggot.
>>
>>121121286
Are you implicating that isn't normal ethic?
Ruin a thread you hate.
This thread can fuck off.

>>121121235
It was mostly garbage, and had less actual collections than these occasional threads do.
>>
>>121121235
>>121121254
Really? Did you guys conveniently filter out the large chunk of autism about localizing, followed by more autism about how physical collections are pointless? Or the ones thinking that their stacks of Shingeki and Bleach were worth bragging about?

There's like what, 100 posts tops that actually was about the collection of manga.
>>
>>121121317
>localized
If you are reading anything in any language other than the language it was originally written in, you are reading a localization.

Collection pictures don't need to exist outside of buyfag threads, but knock it off with this stupid as shit localization tangent.
>>
>>121121044
Yes, we had one thread that is going to bump any minute now plus one one page thread.
Meanwhile we have 89 anime threads on /a/ this very fucking instant.
If you still think this thread is redundant or taking away space for anime, your autism is uncurable, I'm so fucking sorry anon.
>>
>>121121306
You also get much better quality paper. Also, more likely to get omnibus/hardcover releases than Japs. See Nijigahara Holograph, JoJo's, Vinland Saga.
>>
>>121121390
Why did you define what a localisation is when it had no relevance?
>>
>>121121317
>accuses dick measuring
>muh localized manga angst
>>
>>121121432
Hardcover manga and omnibus' are ugly as fuck.
>>
what are some out of print series that are hard to find?
>>
>>121121432
>more likely to get omnibus/hardcover releases than Japs
That is not entirely true. You obviously don't pay much attention beyond the initial jp tank releases.
>>
>>121121306
Too bad I can't teleport japanese manga through my fucking computer anon :^)
It's like you don't even know how international trade works.
>>
>>121121446
There was a guy in the other thread who kept harping on about English published manga being "Localized shit," as though the manga he reads online were somehow not localized.

I saw you mention localization and presumed you were that same guy. My apologies if not.
>>
>>121121390
Read it in fucking Mandarin for all I care, don't buy localized shit and claim you have a collection.
>>121121404
>We have 89 anime threads on /a/ this fucking instant
Oh, the humanity! By all means, let's start a general where underage retards can post their room in their parents house with a shelf full of Bleach and SnK. This is practically blogshit.
>>
>>121121489

>>
>>121121527
English published isn't the same thing as scanlations.

The issue people have with localized shit is buying it, not reading it.
>>
>>121121384
Yeah that was like half the thread. It was able to stay active with some solid discussion, though. The autists died down and stopped caring about people not being Le Edgy Pirates.

>>
>>121121384

yeah. there was enough left to still enjoy.

You know what a collection is, right? It's not exactly an exclusivist term. Some people collect cereal boxes. I read an interview with a guy who collected literal shit.

If you don't like threads like these because they're not conductive to actual conversation, cool (though neither are waifu threads and a ton of other shit up on the board at this very moment), but I have no idea where this weird collection elitism shit is coming from. You might as well say you can't collect horror movies unless you get the original film reels.

>>
>>121121696
Because I actually WANT to see people who have interesting things in their collection. And in order to know if they do or not, I would have to actually be in the thread.

>>
>>121121819
>Also because what, only people who agree with you are allowed to post?

But you're repeating the same thing over and over

we get it, you hate these threads
>>
See, I'd follow you if official localizations were bad in manga, but they really aren't. And they haven't been for a long time. I mean, people who buy garbage battle shonen do have shit taste. I don't even know if I have any right to speak, I'm thinking about buying the Tsubasa omnibuses. And deep down, when executed right (like Kongou Banchou, for instance) battle manga is sort of my guilty pleasure.
>>
>>121121801
I'm not talking about where these posts belong, I'm talking about this not-a-collection bullshit.

Personally I think these posts do belong in buyfag threads, or at the very least that we only need to have once in a great while, but that's besides the point.
>>
>>121121840
I already fucking said this, EVERYTHING is posted in buyfag threads. You faggots would just get laughed out, because you're doing nothing but blogging.

I know right? I'd kill to have all of Jojo in english on a bookshelf. I've honestly considered buying some French volumes.
>>
>>121122014
And the chinks too. Which is kinda unfair since they've got HK and Taiwan (and Singapore as well, I guess) together to cater to the chinese speakers.

>>121121920
English releases are a mixed bunch. Yeah, Vertical's releases are pretty good, but some like Viz tend to have some consistency issues going (e.g. Dorohedoro). That and the fact that you never know when they'll drop/put on hold a series (Zetsubou Sensei still stuck in what, vol 14 or so? Cromartie last few volumes license defunct etc).
>>
>>121122100
It's a fun read, you may hate it for being too pretentious and 2deep or you may love it because of how weird it is.

I agree with you on the narudo thing but you don't seem to understand that buyfag threads are just figurine threads and people who post there care for figurines exclusively.
It all boils down to the fact that people care about and want to discuss manga collections but can't do so in buyfag threads and that's why this thread exists.

And, again, one thread about manga won't kill the board. Why don't Ou go ahitpost in one of those "every day until you like it" threads, there are shit threads like that all the time.

I've not had the pleasure of any JoJo outside Stardust Crusaders. A friend and I would go to bookstores together in high school, pick up a couple volumes of manga, then read and swap them back and forth in our art and German classes. I read the first five volumes of JoJo through him, while I lent him GetBackers.

I've now got the first ten volumes myself and am wondering if Viz plans to reprint Stardust Crusaders in hardcover like they're doing with Parts 1 and 2. If so, I may just hold off on the last few volumes.

Did somebody say "shitty iPhone pictures of localized crap"? Because I thought I heard someone say "shitty iPhone pictures of localized crap".

There's a bunch of used bookstores by me, so when I find this shit for cheap, I pick it up. Otherwise, I don't really buy manga.

I got nostalgic recently for old Tokyopop series, so I grabbed a few volumes on amazon to complete King of Bandits and vol 1 of The Third. Nisekoi was scattered in the bargain bin at Half Price Books. Looks like they've never been opened. I think I've got the FLCL Omnibus around here somewhere as well. Felt like I needed it at the time.

I won't lie, it's not great. King of Bandits is one of my favorite manga purely for the nostalgia, so I think the anime is what I would experience without the benefit of said nostalgia. It isn't bad, just completely forgettable. However, the 7th Heaven OVA is leagues better. Like a solid 8/10. If the King of Bandits anime had the budget and attention the OVA did, it would have been much better. So, watch both; don't expect great things from the anime and you'll make it out ok.

Hey, the first couple Bleach volumes are solid. Or they had potential at least. Same with the anime. Damn shame Kubo's wild ride ruined it.

I dare honestly say that early Bleach is a solid series (for a battle manga) and Kubo actually is a pretty competent artist. It's the whole Jump curse of having to drag things on that really ruined it all.

>>121123535
King of Bandits is kind of charming because (to me at least) it seems the art got worse as the manga went on. The anime is... consistent at least? Again, I don't regret watching it twice or anything and the dub isn't quite as bad as I expected but it didn't live up to my nostalgia. It's like looking at pictures of your first crush and remebering she had bad teeth or something. The OVA is really best case scenario; like looking at pictures of your first crush and thinking "guess my taste wasn't complete shit after all". Oh, the music was pretty good in both though. It was all done by Scudelia Electro and has some truly 10/10 compositions.
>>
>>121122717
That's not even all of it unfortunately
It's an okay series. It's really one of a kind the story is just really good in my opinion. I'm excited for The Phantom Pain but unless they remake the original 2 games before Solid I hope Kojima stops making them I don't want him to drag it out any more Peace Walker had a 10% chance of being fantastic and he fucking nailed it but luck runs out.

I don't think liking manga and following multiple series makes you a weaboo. And I can't see why it would be so hard explaining your liking for manga. Now, if you like loli then it's hard to talk your way out of that one.
>>
>>121124923

I had no experience with buying from Japan back then. 150€ is a really good deal considering some of the localised volumes are oop and worth a lot.

Also, I think you're underestimating shipping costs and german taxes but I'd guess it could still be a bit cheaper, I'll give you that.
That's not the case with any series though at all.

What I do anon, is use a reliable proxy service.
And send all my book purchase to the proxy and ship them all together. They charge a fee, but generally it saves me a lot of trouble of not having to stick to one store to save shipment cost, ending up cheaper.
Not to mention much easier to communicate and request with the proxy service.

My Amazon, amiami, and other purchases defaults to send to the proxy service address.
Once all my stuff are there, I request oversea shipping and they do all the packing and handling. The lack of hassle is awesome.

No, you buy from Japanese shops and these get delivered to a private Japanese delivery company (the proxy) who in turn deliver everything to you. So you end up paying multi local costs + one large international costs VS multi international costs.

check the buyfag guide
>>
>>121125742
Yes. That's pretty much exactly how it works.
It's not a fake address, it's a business location (probably just a house)

They will hold stuff up to a month, so I can make casual purchases and have everything sent there.
Then when I'm ready to have them shipped, I send a shipping request, and they'll re-package everything nicely to fit in a box, and send me the bill.

This allows you to buy from pretty much anywhere in Japan (as long as you have some way of paying for it) even if they don't have international shipping.

That's why there are people telling OP to just go to the buyfag threads to begin with. They actually do talk about buying printed media.

So how quickly does the NGE manga spin off from the anime series? Is it actually any good?
>>
I can also save money by sending shit I don't need right away - say, if I buy 60 volumes of older manga I read years ago, but never got around to owning them, purchased in a bargain used books - on surface (ocean) mail that takes 2-3 months.

It costs less than half the shipping cost.
Hell, I can get 60 volumes of good condition manga for less than $180 this way.
>>
>>121126168
It spins off? I thought it was just a longer running adaptation of the same material.
>>
>>121126168
It follows the anime pretty closely. It expounds on some things more, so the plot/backstory makes more sense. AFAIK it "splits off" at the very end. Instead of being alone on the beach, the world resets and they live happily ever after.
I prefer the manga because it allows for more exposition and explanation.
>>
>>121126168
I just started on voulme 9. I wouldn't say there's a definite point yet where it spins off, only that there's some differences in back-stories, some events are further fleshed out, and some backstories are expanded on

Their sheer mentality is idiotic to be honest.

I'm the guy with a thousand manga above, and as a life time manga reader it consists of various demographics and genre, and not all of them are good. Hell, if I counted the manga I owned in my lifetime, including when I was still in Japan, it'd be no less than two thousand, and manga actually "read" would be easily triple that. Something doesn't need to be "good to impress other people" for it to be on my shelf.
There are shelves of shounen manga, some good, some mediocre, and there are tons of great mature seinen manga as well. And shoujo. And Tezuka hardbound. Etc.

A REAL manga reader doesn't give two shits about people's opinion about certain genre, title, or choice in collection. We read ANYTHING that suits our interest at the moment, critique comes afterwards.

Basically Kodansha USA has a huge boner for omnibus volumes.

It's reminiscent of the VizBig omnibus volumes of older series. It's a huge omnibus volume of AoT, I'm guessing two or three volumes, to fit the Titan theme of the series. I honestly have no idea if they've ever released another one besides the first one.
