Anime that fooled you with a god-tier first episode thread.
Hate this pile of shit all you want, it had a good first episode.
It wasn't god tier, but the first episode of High School of the Dead tricked me into thinking it might actually be fun to watch.
Do I look like I am fishing motherfucker?
That animu went downhill after the first 5 minutes.
Shounen shit for 20 year-olds instead of 12 year-olds
I like the art-style, the animation and even the VAs.
But if someone asked me to summarize the plot of rolling girls?
>So there's girls that are looking for heart-stones which are all over Japan(which actually isn't Japan because some crazy war thing happened). But the stones give you super-powers so that's why they're looking for them, I guess?
There is literally more motion in the manga than in the anime.
Maybe the producers just didn't want to give resources to a series that doesn't pander to their usual otaku demographic. But if that kind of reasoning could fly these days, anime would be dead.
The only characters that people seem to really care about out out of the dozen or so are Rin and the Producer, probably mostly for character design reasons. Since then I don't hear much about the Producer anymore though Rin still seems to get a lot of pixiv fanart.
First episode actually made me want to drop the series, but after the second or third I actually took a liking to it. Still don't know why, though.
What did it for me was Ushinawareta, though didn't end up hating it, but still, the first chapter was way above the others.
No I'm just saying that on average their shows seem to crater after the first couple of episodes. That might go for the Aniplex brand in general though regardless of studio since they rely so goddamn much on popular licenses, popular people and marketing versus having shows that can even stay interesting and in some cases even consistently as animated as the first couple of episodes. Ever since they started taking on overseeing pretty much every popular adaptation project things have gotten incredibly one note and kind of boring as far as most anime seasons go.
The first 5 minutes of episode one was Saya's rampage in Vietnam.
There was werewolves and shit, explosions, night time battles, Vampire Samurai cutting up soldiers and stabbing villagers and babies without mercy or discrimination.
Then it goes to "Saya, do something"
Was getting mad part of your plan?
This show tanked fucking HARD, which is a shame because it started off so amazing.
I got so pissed off I dropped it on the 2nd to last episode, and have never had any desire to finish it.
Don't worry, it's one of my favorites also. Peppo just surprised muh penisu.
>Peppo just surprised muh penisu.
Well, she was the best girl.
The many mentions of kotoura in this thread convinces me that I should pick it up
You should watch the first two episodes. Then drop it.
Maou sama was fantastic all the way until episode 5. Then it became irredeemable LN shit
Yea. I feel that if they made it a tad bit darker, rather than Maou only having a "vaguely evil" past it would have been more enjoyable.
That being said, it was still a pretty good Slice of Life anime. It didn't tank anywhere nearly as bad as shit like >>121067082
>Does God-tier mean beyond shit now?
I feel like this one quote perfectly sums up all that is this board. After all isn't everything always pure meritless shit or the single greatest stroke of genius masterpiece ever conceived to /a/? Quite often within the same thread even?
Its not because it wasn't edgy enough. Far from it, actually, as the final arc was pretty edgy for Slice of Life standards.
No, the problems are:
That redhaired bitch just getting a free fucking pass after almost getting MANabe killed.
MANabe just becomes a standard male-punching bag.
The last arc.
That first 2-ep arc was brilliant - the rest of the show just didn't live upto what the first episodes suggested.
The first episode was one of the most beautiful things I ever saw. After that it became rather plain and boring.
It's kind of hard to avoid giving them money somehow even if you want to considering how much they have their hands in. Any times you support any anime, game, or bit of merchandise that has Bandai Visual, Sunrise, Bandai Namco Games, Lantis or Banpresto somewhere in the production committee you are essentially giving them money.
>not enjoying rolling scrambling girls
>not keeping it real
Fooling with great first episode? What is this, 00's? Plebs.
Nowadays it's not enough, you have to fool people with great FIRST SEASON to ensure a true butthurt later.
One of the greatest first episodes ever. Godlike animation and an amazing first scene, with those delightfully absurd first lines.
Too bad the anime didn't stay at this level. Still enjoyable but animation-wise it took a dive and it became random as hell.
Most of the arcs that weren't the 'main plot' were great.
They just weren't as good as the rocket arc. Death Parade wishes it were as good as this
nothing fucking happens
it was like star driver with the music on only a few episodes
Coyote Ragtime Show had an excellent first episode. If only it maintained that quality to the end.
I see the IRC trolling bandwagon regarding Kotoura-san is still strong, by the way. What's next, Acchi Kocchi?
It didn't need to be grimdark but the plot was taken more seriously at first. However the comedy was much better in the first episode. After the the first-half it wasn't about fantasy beings getting used to the modern world. It wasn't about hiding their powerlevel. It wasn't even about working at McDonald's. It was just "maou bowl" like every other generic LN.
More like first three episodes or so, then the disappointment sunk in
Mysterious gf x, made me realize the fun of romance in anime is the chase, the actual relationship part is boooooooring!
This is one of those shows that I ruined for myself over all that Anzu porn. Couldn't take it seriously if I picked it up
When Funimation licensed this they previewed the first episode online for free. How many do you think they suckered.
>Most of the arcs that weren't the 'main plot' were great.
I agree to that.
The overarching plot was rubbish. The stand-alone/episodic ones outside of the main plot were very good.
I was incredibly disappointed by how fine this show ended up.
It had a pretty nice start, loved the characters and their interaction. And then it went full CRAWLING IN MY SKING plus Aoyama got more and more screentime. Talk about wasted potential.
>Single-handedly saving a show from being utter crap
