Well the whole country was in war, the kids supported his parent and wanted to defeat the allies, so your comparison with muslims it's stupid and out of place, just a few are radical muslims, meanwhile in the movie the whole country was supporting the troops because it was WW2, the japanese army in purpose decided to put a lot of HQ in towns, this was a mistake and not only the planes destroyed the HQ but also a lot of the population

It's not even that I disagree, but it's just that the characters in the movie seem to have embraced the "actions of the few". None of them think "damn Hirohito for dragging us into this war", but rather "what do you mean we can't occupy China? whitu piggu go homu".

I understand that this is supposed to be a both naturalistic and apolitical film, but it makes it harder to relate to it. But maybe that's for the best; when it's not so black and white it challenges the viewer more.
