Why are there so many fucking autists who cant understand that Evangelion is a character study, and the plot comes secondary.
The autism is thinking eva isn't a plot heavy anime that cannot simply end with the omedetou bullshit because is not satisfying at all and doesn't conclude shit. EoE on the other hand is perfect.
Maybe because it doesn't reflect that in its airtime proportion from episodes 1-17.
Yes, it does include a lot inside dialogs and the like, but the change of focus is not smooth at all.
Enjoy being a NEET or working for starbuck in case you're a Liberal arts major
It's not about giant robots. Does this look like a giant robot show to you?
A character study? Plot comes secondary? Is this supposed to be an actual thing that hack writers can use to get away with shit?
I'd believe it, it'd make it more believable as to why some of what I had to read in high school as to why it was considered not shit.
It's not like I want to. I just can't seem to get invested in most of the mecha anime that I've watched. I did watch the first one or two episodes of Eva, but it didn't catch my attention.
I guess the same thing happened with Cowboy Bebop to me, but I gave it another shot and liked it well enough. Yeah. I'll give Eva another shot too. Thanks anon.
Certain characters are interesting (Gondem, Cajee, Retusko) but I much preferred the visual literacy, christian symbols (I don't give a fuck if Anno didn't intend it), and trying to follow the subtextual world building (which sometimes focused on character relationships). I cared a lot less about Shinji than I did about figuring out what the EVA units were and their purpose. Maybe if I had watched it when I was younger I would have been more invested in his character.
Hey that's not fair, what if I want to be a NEET and have a worthless Lit degree? We're not Liberal Arts but damnit, we deserve recognition too.
That moment when you're a Lit major and actually writing about Eva for a 20ish page research paper.
What I actually like alot about Evangelion is how they thought about alot of things and the explanations actually were all well thought out.
Things like the eva's needing a power supply, the aftermath of the second impact and the power of all the different angels.
Yeah, I remember the first time I watched Eva, the first thing I really took note of was Unit-01 needing a power cable like it was a giant weed trimmer. It seemed so silly, and yet it made perfect sense and was a smart way to limit the Evas
>deep in any way whatsoever
>implying Anno didn't say he made up the "symbolism" just because he felt like putting it in
Typical non-STEM major, trying to make something out of nothing. Just like your degree.
You understand that when people say eva is too deep for you, the for you part means something, right?
Also you dont understand what "being deep" is.
it means that the values are not superficial, and in that way eva is clearly deep, considering you cannot follow its themes.
Who would have guessed people are dumb? News @11.
It's about elevators. The amount of time the anime takes to get any point across is ludicrous. A written work taken to eva's extremes would be scoffed at as a masturbatory exercise.
But as anime it's heralded as one of the best.
>"There are a lot of giant robot shows in Japan, and we did want our story to have a religious theme to help distinguish us. Because Christianity is an uncommon religion in Japan we thought it would be mysterious. None of the staff who worked on Eva are Christians. There is no actual Christian meaning to the show, we just thought the visual symbols of Christianity look cool. If we had known the show would get distributed in the US and Europe we might have rethought that choice." ― Kazuya Tsurumaki
Pretty sure I read more too of this for other parts
tl;dr - it looked cool so we put it in.
I would still watch Eva even if it had no robots.
Eva is not about the visuals, you fucking nerd.
please watch Eva once in your life, with a clear mind.
dont go in expecting to hate it, just watch it.
and dont try to talk shit about anime you never saw, you look like a british person
Oh here is another good one.
> "Evangelion is like a puzzle, you know. Any person can see it and give his/her own answer. In other words, we're offering viewers to think by themselves, so that each person can imagine his/her own world. We will never offer the answers, even in the theatrical version. As for any Evangelion viewers, they may expect us to provide the 'all-about Eva' manuals, but there is no such thing. Don't expect to get answers by someone. Don't expect to be catered to all the time. We all have to find our own answers." -- Hideaki Anno
There are no answers to any of this and its all just a big "Believe what you want to" thing. Meaning my interpretation of there is no symbolism would also be correct.
imo this is a big copout where really there was nothing there and they put a veil over the nothing to make it look like there is something.
There is some symbolism. The Christian symbolism is pretty thin, but there are lot of symbols about motherhood, stuff around the theme of "what are my hands for," plenty of callback scenes, phallic imagery, etc.
> Y-you don't understand. You disagree with me so you are wrong. I won't say why, or give a counterargument of any sort. B-but you are wrong
I don't think the character development is all that good. But anytime you hear anything about eva its usually newfags saying how deep it is or some shit and thats not true at all. Its a coming of age story for shinji and is the same as about every other anime in that sense.
>I don't think the character development is all that good
What dont you find all that good about it?
did you even watch the series?
Please point out some of the flaws so i can understand your argument
I'm not saying there's an analogous scene. I'm saying that suggesting that literature would not abide 'the amount of time it takes to get any point across' is just ridiculous. "Longwinded, masturbatory, and taken to extremes" is the rallying cry of everyone who dislikes the last century of writing.
Me personally, I went in liking Evangelion. Then I saw the point where they ran out of money/effort/ideas. Like Lost, The Prisoner, and other pseudo-philosophical media they didn't have a fucking clue how to finish it. Given the creator of the show once said in an interview the Christian imagery is in there because it looks cool, I will always see it as the pinnacle of overrated anime laden with fap-worthy characters.
TL:DR - Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining
>Christian imagery is in there because it looks cool
This will never be enough to discredit all of NGE. That is literally ONE PART. There is other symbolism. Character interaction. Larger themes. Almost no one who praises NGE talks about the Christian themes.
I get what it was trying to be and it just didn't work for me like that. Shinji never progressed and just regressed as a character. You can say how thats "so realistic" or whatever you want but either way its still just a writer arbitrarily deciding what happens so to me its no more realistic or anything else that other stories. Then when it comes down to just pure enjoyment I don't like shinji at all cause hes a fuck. Rei is lifeless and contributes nothing but being a shitty plot device and asuka is tsundere with issues. The characters never change into something else. So thats why I don't think its that good. Its alright. But completely overrated.
I'm not baiting. I saw Evangelion as a brilliant starter, a lovely meal, and crumbs for dessert. If you enjoy it, cool, but I don't think this anime is anything more than the Emperor's New Clothes, and you're all gasping at a naked man's ass, thinking it's fashion
I'm not saying there isn't any development, just that I don't think the development is all that great. Yes I watched EoE and that certainly did a better job but it still didn't interest me all that much. Like I said I'm not saying there is no development. If you like it for its development then thats fine its just not my personal tastes. I just don't see how one can call this an amazing anime for all the reasons I've listed above. Its good at best imo.
Eva is much more known than lain, as simple as that.
After some time browsing 4chan you learn that people tend to hate things just because they see too many people praising it, im not saying "you just hate it because its popular"
its the human nature or whatever, i need to go to sleep and by morning i'll have forgotten about this thread and probably so there is no point in explaining everything, im going to kill myself.
Now who's baiting? You've got a good mecha show that becomes a mediocre mecha show / love hina that eventually becomes a dire rorschach birthed from creator laziness, and poor deadlines and budgeting. Any symbolism or meaning is you trying to fill the gaps, nay chasms.
Don't worry anon, evafags are like all over the place right now (and always have been) and it won't stop, it just got so popular that kids under 16 like it. Remember, Asuka and Rei fags are retarded and virgins.
