You have it flipped, OP. Sometimes I watch the anime of mangas I like, but not very often. Animes always look so shitty in comparison to mangas art-wise. Every once in a while one like SnK looks way better than the manga, but even then it's a gamble as to whether or not it will be interesting enough to keep up with while keeping up with the manga simultaneously (SnK was not).

It also irks me to no end when studios add shit to the story that wasn't there in the manga, almost always to the detriment of the story. Fairly recently in One Piece one of the Straw Hats one shot the fish-man boss of the arc underwater, showing off how strong he had become during the timeskip. I wanted to see that scene animated and they added a whole bunch to that fight that ruined it. Can't deal with it.

From some one who keeps up to date with One Piece manga, is it currently much better than the anime? I stopped watch at the fishman island arc because I found watching it an annoying experience. Is the pacing much better?

The pacing is definitely better in the manga, having been rough for years in the anime. I think One Piece has been weaker since the time skip, but still one of the more interesting fight shonens around. Since the anime and the manga are the same for the most part you could start reading where you left off and see if you like the manga. At the very worst you'd lose a couple hours of your life and maybe you'd like it. The current arc on Dressrosa has been really interesting apart from the fact that none of the villains feel threatening which is a big deal to me. Like I said in the post you're responding to, the manga also looks so much better than the anime.
