Okay /a/ it's come to this.
I've been posting here for 6 years now and I have enjoyed it all, good times and bad.
But with moot's passing I have an admission to make.
I have never watched anything neon genesis evangelion.
Not even a second.
But this music is just so fucking catchy.
So what's the best way to start watching it?
watch NGE(skip the last 2 eps), then skip death and rebirth, then watch End of Evangelion.
Then watch the rebuilds for fancy action but light on the characters with some twists thrown in.
Oh and one last thing you might get put off since Shinji is a gigantic depressing piece of shit but its just part of his character, thats his role.
The fuck is wrong with you.
>only watched rebuilds
>easily the shittiest remakes
>not even the same story
No wonder moot left. All that's left is a bunch of fucking faggot children.
Literally the only show you ever have to ask this for is Haruhi, and that's because there are two release orders, only one of which is correct if you're watching the entire series.
Don't listen to this retard OP >>120212232
He thinks his shit opinion matters when he hasn't even seen the series, and is basing his little opinion on only having watched the shitty butchered, and unfinished remake.
Start with episode 1 OP, and watch the DC episodes of 21-24. Then once you finish the last episode, watch the ending movie, The End of Evangelion, which is the greatest part of the entire Eva story.
Look, look everyone.
These are the type of people who dislike Evangelion. Look at how fucking abysmal their taste in anime is. We share this community with these people. No wonder moot left.
Fuck, you. Stop samefagging and spread your shounenshit taste like evangleshit and nurutu to me. The evangelishit need to be purged that's why the shit taste disease not spreading farther.
Just know this: episodes 25 and 26 were cobbled together after the budget ran dry and try to act like it's a happy resolution even though nothing is answered or resolved.
End of Evangelion is closer to the ending they had planned, but is laced with angry retribution against the fans. Doesnt' really resolve matters, but at least gives a climactic finale.
To be fair, why should you force someone to watch a 14 age (underage) kid as protagonist. Isn't it like forcing someone to watch kiddy show like beyblade anime or dash yonkuro the animation. Why dids evafag like to self insert as underage boy?
Those are pretty good shows anon. But I still think EVA is worth watching. It's one of those shows everybody should watch, just because of what it did for the medium.
What's rich, is you posting on /a/ without having watched Evangelion, and thinking your opinion matters on anything. Lol.
No, you don't. Namefagging makes everyone think your cancer, and if you've been here long nd haven't how people here shit all over namefags, then I don't know what to tell you.
Also, Love Lab was shit. Dropped that shit on episode 5.
Don't watch it if you don't want to man. Nobody is forcing you to. I was very reluctant to watch it at first as well. But it was the series that got me back into anime.
There were a lot of interesting movies that I watched for a film course that I would have never sought out on my own. I am glad I watched them. Treat Eva like that.
>what it did for the medium.
Uhh, Rei clones?
You've probably already decided but, it depends on your taste really.
Its supposed to be depressing, and apparently its "amazing" quality comes from the characters.
Personally, I didn't like it. I never understood why I should care about Shinji, a kid with daddy problems with no redeeming qualities; and Asuka, a complete bitch.
I liked Rei though. Her story made me feel pretty damn sad.
I haven't watched the rebuilds but I've watched everything else.
It changed the very market. OVAs were declining because of digital sharing, but Eva showed there was money in original titles with short television runs aimed at otaku. Look at yearly production in 1995 and a few years after and you'll see it.
And it seems to have accelerated the decline of mecha, oddly enough,
Watch them, Shinji and Asuka are a lot more bearable.
Have to say though, their problems are self-inflicted, as are Misato's. They are the most telling characters in this dysfunctional gathering, however much I hate Asuka. Rei however is in a situation she can't help. It feels like she is mostly there to toy with the audience's sympathy. She is rather out of place here. I honestly think Haruhi did her better.
I fear this moot shit is going to rend a huge divide in the /a/ user base. For one thing, people were actively shitting on moot's name for the past few months here, and now they are crying and wailing to have him back.
I even fucking called it in the goodbye thread, this board has been slow as fuck for actual anime discussion recently, but that shit hit 7k posts and 3k IPs in a few hours. Where are all these fucking posters when there's anime to discuss?
Eva was this cool post-modern deconstruction of anime that ended up harming the industry more then it helped it.
Rei and Asuka's character designs and traits are literally copied all the time.
I dunno, I've seen Eva and I don't think it would have mattered or made a difference on my experience whether I watched or not.
You all just seem to talk about about the rebuilds anyway, which I have little intention of ever watching.
What exactly were the benefits of watching Eva again? Besides finding out how shitty moot's waifu is/was.
I don't get it, even some of the hottest shows which constantly max out threads sometimes go hours without posts.
>muh silent majority
You don't get to complain if you sat on the sidelines and watched the fire burn.
Why is /a/ always so toxic?
If you like a show, you like a show. Its not some sort of statement or a reflection on a persons character. Its just a matter of taste.
Everyone has different preferences. You might love, hate, or be ambivalent towards it. That does not make you better than them.
I personally hated EVA because I thought it was pretentious psychobabble. I realize that this does not mean the shows objectively bad, I just don't like it.
Eva is /m/ and mostly /v/. The protagonist is still 14 years old. that something very rare happen even in the current shounen show.
How can you watch a kiddy show like that. Robot is for a kid and somehow fit for eva protagonist.
Bigger surprise, since the only boards moot posted on were here, /co/ and [s4s], hundreds of people from other boards came to post on what may be moots last admin post.
/a/ is much slower recently. I feel as though there are threads on here that have been here for 2 days now. Even weirder, it takes about a whole minute from when I press the send button for my post to actually get posted.
You should asked this to /m/ and will soon realise why the answer is not objective. Honestly asking evangelion to /a/ is not a correct decision because evangelion is /m/ teritory. They have different fanbase, habit and culture.
Watch Rebuild and read the manga, don't let the elitist hipsters fool you, the 90's anime is shit
Wow, this is when you know /a/ is filled with a bunch of SAO fanboy faggots that refuse to watch something that literally changed anime as we know it. Oh no, it's a little dated so it's not good enough for my spoiled entitled faggot little ass.
Go watch your moeblob bitches be stupid in their 720p glory and get the fuck off /a/.
Don't threaten me with a good time Anon
Hey all those other guys are fags but I wouldn't include >>120212686 in there.
He just seems to be an anon that's not into mecha mindfucks.
But yea OP always start with the original. Don't be like the secondaries. I hate when fags come into JoJo or Fate threads and haven't even read the manga/VN to spout shit.
I think that must be a problem on your end, buddy
If you mean a gateway to demonstrate that anime can have actual character development and go deeper than just 'uguu am i fucking kawaii' without a happy magical resolution to everyone's problems by the end of the show, then yeah, it's a gateway.
'worst' is just some sort of shitty opinion or bait.
I like TG too so far. The anime anyways. The first 2 episodes were extremely good, but it seems to have turned into a slightly generic shonen onwards.
I thought this fag dies, What the fuck is that shit. Such a good fight scene and what seemed like a crazy and satisfying kill... And he becomes the protags friend in episode 5? Oh, and not just that, but he has a human girlfriend and has m-muh feelings for her.
What a joke.
>For one thing, people were actively shitting on moot's name for the past few months here, and now they are crying and wailing to have him back.
It reminds me of the attitude in England towards Princess Diana before and after her death. In one day she went from a home-wrecking love-cheat running around with playboy millionaires to a saint
I liked the rebuilds up until the third one happened and shat all over itself. The point of Eva is the characters, I know, but I've always liked the worldbuilding in it.
1.1 was just the first few episodes redone with a few differences and more budget. Then I watched 2.2 and I was amazed, it seemed like he'd blown an entire movie trolling me into thinking that it was just going to be a straight remake and then it went off the rails and I couldn't wait to see where they were going with it.
Walkman thingy goes to 27? Beast mode eva? New character (obviously well thought out with a well planned arc I thought), more Rei development? Amazing!
Then the third movie came out, and it turned out that the second movie wasn't carefully planned setup for anything at all and I got to watch an entire movie of the franchise shitting all over itself. Everyone's older because why (have there not been any angel attacks in ten years?) except for the pilots for no good reason, fucking KITTY PAW EVA, everyone's back to the make Shinji hate himself game despite having him encouraged him to do the exact thing they now hate him for last movie.
The first movie lulling me into a false sense of security and the second movie sucker punching me and then setting up all these fascinating unanswered questions seemed amazing. Then the third movie happens, and it turns out that whoever directed the whole thing caught M. Night Shyamamalama syndrome.
Pic related, it's a show that had so much fun doing what it did that nobody even noticed when it never delivered on the stuff it set up and wrecked its own mythology.
Theres nothing fun about Eva. It's a vortex of depression that gives you Stockholm syndrome and makes you think you love it then you're here forever
>(have there not been any angel attacks in ten years?
Okay dude. As a hardcore Eva autist, I'm gonna have to stop you right there. It's fucking obvious the last two angels after Zeruel (the one at the end of 2.0) were defeated by Kaworu and Mari, and maybe Asuka
You do realize there are only 13 angels, and not an infinite line up of them, right? The angel attacks stopped, like, maybe 2 months after 2.0.
Not him, but you actually are autistic. Wrong too, it's not obvious it's just fanwank. Hell you can't even prove or show the two angels, save for the weird one in terminal dogma.
That said it's fucking retarded anyway, too convenient for it all to stop.
Don't hold up Clannad as representative. Eva was remarkable in its day; now it's been copied a lot, but is still a bold if rough supernatural drama.
Plenty of other shows have char dev, but Eva shows the dark side of people who do not improve and rub off each other in the worst way.
That's the thing for me though. I watched NGE and anyone can see that it's a masterpiece, but I still don't think it's actually very enjoyable to watch. I'm never that surprised when people say they find it really hard to get through it.
It's not fanwank, anyone with half a brain can put it together. There are only 13 angels, and it's fucking obvious that once they are defeated, there would be no angels. Ever. Do you understand this simple concept? The angels made their attacks within a year, maybe less. So saying the last two angels attacked within the next few months after 2.0 is pretty much a given. Why I said Mari and Kaworu took care of them is because they would be the only pilots NERV has at their disposal, seeing as how Shinji and Rei are trapped in time, and the last time we saw Asuka, she had her face eaten off.
>too convenient for it all to stop.
But the first like two thirds of the show are fun as hell, and if you're a depressed sack of shit
like I was, then the last two episodes can be intensely, life-changingly therapeutic.
>Yui Senpai I hate you so I stole you glasses
>Yui Senpai I love you and I'm Jealous of Gendo
>Yui Senpai please I'm only 16
Yeah no one's missing much
>It's not fanwank, anyone with half a brain can put it together.
That's precisely the point, anyone with half a brain can put it together because it IS fanwank you moron.
nobody fucking cares whether or not it's obvious, it's literally not there and there's nothing even contradicting the notion that they didn't. It can literally go both ways and you're fanwanking hard because you're an EVA autist.
Your fan fiction is not canon, nor does anyone who isn't an EVA autist care.
You are literally incapable of recognizing a shitty, poorly told story because your only occupation is fanwanking into the gaping holes Rebuild 3.0 leaves for idiots like you to fall into and never get up. Holy shit, how does it feel to literally be an easily caught animal?
>HONK HONK U DON TELL MES
WHATTA FUCK TO DO WHEN I ASK WHATTA FUCK TO DO
Why don't you go shitpost in a way that doesn't just further diminish any hopes we have left for the human race instead?
They're missing the fact that Mari is older than everyone else by decades
since I'm autisticGendo and Yui are still in college so lets say that Gehirn has just started and this is close to 2nd Impact. If Mari is 16 that would make Misato 14.
2nd Impact happens events unfold we reach 2.22 in 2015 making Misato 28 and Mari 30.
This is where the fuck loop comes into play because only souls born after 2nd Impact can pilot an Eva. This is why the manga isnt canon
Fuck you. You literally did nothing to disprove me or even try to argue against my post. Instead you chose to act like a baby and call Eva bad fanfiction writing because you're too much of a spoiled little bitch to take the time to understand the plot better.
Rewatch the series you unintelligent fuck.
NGE had an interesting premise and interesting characters, but I never understood why /a/ jizzes all over it all the time. It was pretty lackluster in the end, and seemed like it was trying way too hard to be deep.
It did it better than loads of other series, that's for sure. But it still isn't the godsend that everyone claims it is. It was honestly a very forgettable series, and the only reason I remember it at all is because of the daily threads that I see about it in this shit hole every day.
OP should watch it just because it's a "staple" of the anime industry, but that's about it. Don't expect anything amazing, there are loads of better series
