But I'll list it as in progress if they're up for it. Keep in mind that I'm focusing on translating when making the pastebin, so at times sentences will sound clunky, feel free to rephrase those.
Words in brackets are those outside of a word bubble. If all the words in a page are outside of word bubbles I may not do this, so don't take it as cast-iron.
Words in Parentheses indicate a comment from me, usually due to some ambiguity, it might help in rephrasing.
>>120192071
When a ship is sunk, they are recovered, but they have no memory of what they did, and no longer have the spirit of the ship that grants them the power to fight the abyss.
That's what the game devs have said. For all intents and purposes, Kisaragi is dead. She may be the exception, not the rule, since Nagato said they never recovered a body. Or maybe she meant the spirit granting Kisaragi the ability to be a fleet girl was killed, but they did find her body.

Midway's too big of a deal to just ignore the carrier losses, and Akagi's position as the ship Fubuki admires and backseat to Kaga in terms of popularity pretty much guarantees she's going down. Kaga will probably survive for the waifufags, but Akagi and the Ryus are done for.
So 3rd episode and deathflags everywhere?
It's like watching Tomino show.

If you put a hyphen after Naga you shouldn't have to worry about it, and the text will look more evenly distributed. But that's a good job of extending the bubble.

Are they trying too hard to set Akagi up as the most amazing nip woman ever?
She fucking closed her eyes and shot an arrow...that turned into a fucking plane, that aimed and shot the target, how the fuck am I suppose to be impressed?
Also her whole speech pretty much deathflagged Kaga to hell. There is no way she wont get into deep shit and Kaga is 100% going to an hero herself for Akagi.
Thanks for posting all the cool typesetting advice, could be useful in the future. I'd love to be a contributing solo translator, but my nip is not yet strong enough that I could keep up a satisfactory pace as a relevant translator, or to make it lucrative, which it would pretty much have to be for me to maintain it as an activity.

>muh liberal use of game mechanics
In all seriousness, anyone else would have dropped this show if it wasn't popular and you weren't a fan of the game beforehand? It honestly has the most bland writing, an awkward choice of characters to focus on, bad CGI transitions, and really poor/awkward game fanservice (The girls spouting game lines, repair timers, bucket, lol Akagi memes XD).
I think the only time I was impressed was the gearing up in episode 1.
>>120193176
Who has this besides Kaga?
>>120193114
It works but I personally don't like the font choice. It's far too curvy for the bubbles. You just get an eye for it after awhile though, the very first thing I typeset I only used a single font throughout (makes me cringe just thinking about it). Just look up what few guides there are for things like this and lurk in the scanlation threads when they pop up, any idiot can slap text into a bubble but it's harder to actually do a good job at it than most people might think.

>CGI
Diomedia's choices of which shots to CGI and which ones not to are baffling.
But I haven't dropped it yet since it's looking like it's a slower set-up than most shows. Despite its differences from Strike Witches, and the reluctance to compare them simply because they're both mecha musume, the narrative so far is structured very similarly to Strike Witches, which took 5 episodes to completely ramp up compared to most 1-cour shows' 3-ish episodes.

Shows like this often use CGI for long shots with characters moving around a lot in terms of position but not moving their features much, and if done well it works great and saves the studio a ton of money. But in Diomedia's case they just seem to be using it for any shot on the water that's any further out than 1/3 portrait framing, so we get a lot of shots like when Fubuki and Akagi were just standing next to each other, near the camera, just talking.

>On December 4, 1941, Captain Elrod flew to Wake Island with twelve aircraft, twelve pilots, and the ground crew of Major Paul Putnam's fighter squadron, VMF-211. Hostilities in the air over Wake Island commenced on December 8, 1941. On December 12, he single-handedly attacked a flight of 22 enemy planes and shot down two. He executed several low-altitude bombing and strafing runs on enemy ships; during one of these attacks, he became the first man to sink a warship, the Japanese destroyer Kisaragi, with small caliber bombs delivered from a fighter aircraft.
>When all the U.S. aircraft had been destroyed by hostile fire, he organized remaining troops into a beach defense unit which repulsed repeated Japanese attacks. On December 23, 1941, Captain Elrod was mortally wounded while protecting his men who were carrying ammunition to a gun emplacement.

Most of the ships only sunk after being hit on a critical module, you aren't gonna sink a ship by only shooting at her bridge.

Yes, but as was noted time and again after the war, most of the crews that were shot down were lost in their first five missions. If you could survive 5 missions, you typically made it to the end. It was a matter of spirited debate whether this was the natural effect of the worst crews getting weeded out early, or a sign that training was inadequate and no substitute for the experience of real combat as a teacher.

A good number of those ships shouldn't even be in play right now, if you're really following history.
Half of them are going to sink before this anime gets to episode 6. As you might imagine, that's not good for merchandise sales OR a potential season 2.

Foreign ships are being rolled out slowly, but they won't appear this season most likely. The only "American" ship in-game now is Prinz Eugen.

It occurs to me that 140 characters is (potentially) a lot more information for a Japanese user, provided they're generous with Kanji usage.

Once again, you’re connecting unrelated point A with unrelated point B. They’re not the same battles from World War 2. They’re simply the names of the famous sites and places, because military otaku take great interest (practically a reverence) in these particular places to begin with.
Those aircraft carrier alien girls in the game with the silly hats do not represent the USS Enterprise. If the military otaku game designers wanted allied ships, then they simply would have made an allied ship girl for you to blow up called the USS Enterprise. But since Kancolle is actually not about the allies vs. the axis, then… you get to fight aliens with big hats instead.
When you look at the finer details of this game, for example the ship girls’s individual status points, the torpedoes you can equip, the sea planes you can use, then it’s obvious that Kancolle is just another series for fans of the technology of that era. It has nothing to do with trivializing history because the series itself is not about actual WW2 history. You know… just like every other military otaku series these days such as Strike Witches, Upotte!, Girls und Panzer, and so on.
Please for the sake of everyone, do not try to connect Girls und Panzer to Nazism for your next post.

It's rare, but every now and then you'll find posts about some Japanese girl asking the internet if her boyfriend is weird asking her for a strand of her pubic hair.
Then almost everyone else responds that she should and the reason why.
Also, that isn't really the worst thing possible.
Some rituals and charms used semen, blood from a freshly broken hymen, spit, or far more disturbing body bits for things like a good luck charm. Granted, most of those are generally attributed to witches/wikkas nowadays.
Which is why pubic hair amulets are still a shock when people read about it. It's really just a more intimate version of a maiden's favor or whatever it's called when a maiden gave the warrior a lock of her hair, or her hankerchief, or her necklace/jewelry, with the promise that the warrior return to them, or at least return the item to them (if they were too shy to ask them to return to them alive outright).
Who Phoenix here?

There's five main reasons. One is that Japan's ideology at the time was 'merely' nationalistic and aggressive, whereas Nazi ideology was just straight-up insane, and Germany both wants to prevent its return and is deeply shamed by it. Two is that, while both committed war crimes, Germany's were far more public. Japan did some shit in SE Asia, but most of their more heinous stuff was in China where no one cares. Three is that Germany was defeated in conventional warfare, whereas Japan, while on the brink of defeat anyway, was defeated by the application of a weapon so overpowering that all of mankind spent the next 60 years dreading that they'd wipe out the human race. Four is that Hirohito remained emperor and relatively untouched, so while all the people who actually ran the government changed, the old nation of Japan wasn't dismantled and replaced with a new Japan like what happened to Germany repeatedly since it unified. Fifth is that Japan was never split by the cold war into two halves bother super paranoid about ideology.

The big thing with the Japanese is that they never saw their own atrocities first-hand. They weren't really confronted with them the way the Germans were. So it never struck home. And with time, the shame of defeat faded, and they found things they could (rightfully) be proud of. It's the same way the English can still be proud of their empire, despite all of their horrible shit. It was well away from home, and it happened to minorities, so who cares how many we killed?
Whereas, the Holocaust happened right there. In Germany. Right in their back yards. Everyone knew someone related to the camps--guards, prisoners, people who saw them after they were liberated, whatever. It took almost a decade for the effects to percolate through society, but they've never really gone away.

Actually, the defense treaty the US signed with Japan back in the day specifically states that the US will guarantee Japanese sovereignity over Japanese territory. The disputed Senkaku Islands are directly named as Japanese territory.
So, we're treaty-bound to be Japan's muscle in this fight. China can make all the noise they want, but they're well aware of this fact. An actual attempt to claim the islands will never happen.

What I find even more ironic is that US doesn't actually exercise its rightful claim to Formosa, Matsu and Kinmen which were all turned over from Japanese control to allied command, thus put under American control. Wait so what are you trying to do? I thought you wanted to make a transparent font solid but there's no text.
>>120198269
I want to overlap the Chinese words.

KMT is effectively a political party on a non-country. They have no ability to enforce ROC's historical legal obligations, and are not even capable of forming additional treaties that are of political weight. This means that the Allied commission technically has the rights to exercise jurisdiction and any political arrangement as it see fit.
The problem with People's Republic of China is that it does not accept the legal responsibilities of its predecessor state, so there is limbo where it would not be seen as a valid member to the Allied commission (that doesn't impact its seat at the UN at all. Separate affair.)

We just keep quiet and let China walk around pretending to be big bully as long as they slap our face with 100 billion dollar.
>>120198334
Please. US owns more to itself than it does to China, by a very, very large margin. Moreover, China is invested far more heavily with American funds than what US owes to China. Sovereign fund is only a part of the whole pie.

So what you're trying to do is redraw what was covered by the chink?
>>120198450
Something like this, except not stroke.
Cutest
>>120198504
Include the text on the PSD and reupload.
>>120198504
Oh, and the font is transparent, so you can see what's under it. What I want is a way to fill up the font so it's solid.

I was talking about SEA and out territorial dispute with the Chinks not Murrica.
Their missile cruisers and amphibious landing ships cruise around our EEZ to 70km from our shores at most but turn a blind eye and you get monies. Simple relationship really.

The Muslims here was pretty chill to the Japanese when they came due to the Britons, but once they realize their beloved Sultans will be turned into a bunch of puppets, in addition to placing the Emperor of Japan in a superior position, things start to look bleak.
And those Sultans are a pretty big deal over here. IIRC, the Japanese were after assimilation of the entire region, so it was kind of no different from what the Brits did, but worse.
>>120198554
Flip?
>>120198439
Yeah, people fundamentally misunderstand U.S's relationship with China when they say nonsense like China owns the United State's debts.
They only own less than 10% of the national debt and Japan basically owns as much as China (1.25 trillion to 1.22 trillion)

For whom?
>>120198693
The local indigneous population. Goes back to "replace Islam with Buddhism".
>>120198581
Nope its plane crash land, Flip is part of Uncle sam sphere while we are not part of either sphere. At most we send C-130 or corvette to go 'yellow piggu go homu'.
Abe is not making life easier though, Japan have been offering technical knowledge and investment on top of paying for natural gas facilities ever since Fukushima. The catch is you need to side with Japan against China while we just want to profit from selling stuff to both.

Few decades later, here we are, masturbating to Japanese cartoon warships. If there is a god he has a twisted sense of humor.
