Honestly, I don't get it.
I really just don't get it.
In one of the past FAQs he said he would keep hosting 4chan forever. He said he would host it even if everyone left just for nostalgia's sake.
When asked if he had outgrown 4chan he said that his tastes had changed like him not being all that interested in anime anymore, but he still browses 4chan daily for at least one hour. He said he did not outgrow 4chan and still liked it here.
"I will be the last one to turn the lights out". And like a year later after saying this he just leaves anyways?
What the hell happened? I thought we would all stay here together ;_;
>jannies and mods were now forced to be identified with legal documents
>just before he quit
He got a gf. She probably wants him to leave us all behind...and he's decided that she's better than us.
Can't blame him though... We can only wish him luck in life. If he's ever back in this neighborhood...we'll leave the door unlocked.
The circles he moves in, and more importantly desires investment from, likely did not look kindly on his involvement with the internet hate machine. To change the site to be acceptable to them would rend its soul, to leave it the same would deny him the ability to gain funds for the projects I am sure he actually wants to do.
Stepping away is a win-win from his perspective, and more noble than the route /pol/ would have predicted where he just sells the diet to left leaning persons.
There's a difference between administrating and hosting. moot still owns 4chan and its servers and its finances and all that other crap, he just no longer takes an active role in managing or overseeing any of it.
This is the first time I legitimately teared up from browsing 4chan.
Why, moot. Why? ;_;
He's not going to leave.
He's just tired of being head honcho, he just wants to be an anon.
In a few months or a year, he's gonna post with his trip and a shitstorm will ensue as always.
>tfw I am in tears
>unlike the other others it's not from laughter
/a/, you'll never leave me right? You'll always stay the same, right?
Funny, moot leaves 4chan and I'll be leaving soon.
I've got untreatable/inoperable cancer. Not to blog but it feels good to vent. I guess you could call this good timing though.
I will miss the good times and the bad times.
We love you, anon.
Please give our regards to Yui.
That's really sad. How much time do you have, anon?
We'll see you on the other side, Anon
Don't worry, anon, one day we will all be together again.
I love you. ;_;7
Extreme oldfag here (was lurking 4chan within days of it's founding, was using regularly within a few weeks).
4chan now is just a shadow of it's former glory and community. The community now in general has become more tedious to deal with than fun and interesting.
/pol/, /int/ and /v/ have also ruined fucktonnes of the fun with their far-right, extremely reactionary, insanely hateful propaganda that is mostly used to target other people in the 4chan community and force their own form of censorship through abuse and derailing, basically everyone I've known who were regulars on 4chan and in the IRC since 2004-2005-2006 have bailed 4chan because of the absolute pathetic culture that /pol/ brought along.
I wonder if moot realizes that bringing back /pol/ and then giving it special privileges hurt the site and the community in a huge amount of ways.
/pol/ and I think even /his/ could exist, but they need to be on moderated blue boards. You simply can't have any real political discussion where 90% of the posts will be stupid, hateful spam which serve the only purpose of shutting down discussion. This shitty culture has left /pol/ and spread to numerous other boards on the site.
All in all, the only reason I use 4chan still is nostalgia and while some reddit boards are perfectly fine (Askhistorians for example) people who eat Mainstream media as 100% truth and circlejerk over MURICA unironically (all the major reddit political and news boards) piss me off far more than racist, fascist /pol/ shitstains.
/lit/ (great veiled political board now for those of us that want to talk real politics), /a/, /jp/, /n/ etc etc.
Apart from /a/, I think the major 4chan boards. /b/, /pol/, /v/, /r9k/, /int/, /soc/ are basically unusable.
I spotted you shlomo, you disgusting fucking kike jew.
/pol/ has the MOST oldfags out of all the boards. /pol/ was the natural progression from the old /b/ of 2005-2006.
When you kikes, cucks, and nigger loving marxists forced your way into internet culture with your shitty kotakus and huffington posts, it galvanized us into action to reject your jewish take over of the internet.
You just had to stick your big fucking nose into our corner of the internet to enforce your White genocide; now get a taste of the backlash.
I know what you mean, sort of. I've been here since 2006, so while I'm not as extreme an oldfag as you, I've still been here for close to nine years now. But really, as I recall it, those /pol/fags were always here, even if they weren't calling themselves that back then. Being here has always meant putting up with and learning to ignore certain elements. But I'm still here, because even with all the bullshit, I still love the board culture in a way that's hard to define. I guess it's partially because the anonymity and the weird kind of honesty it brings. Regular forums doesn't do it for me. As long as I stay away from the more cancerous parts of 4chan, I'm alright.
>your last living thought will be of moot's face
I wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemy.
moot's successor(s) need to bring the fucking hammer down on /pol/. Last month moot brought it to death's door but apparently did not have the heart to put it down for real. I hope to fucking god that justice is exacted on them. Kill moot's will to run the site? Fucking kill them off, as they have no right to even breathe the same air as the rest of the site for all the bullshit they have caused. Mods/future admin or whatever better get the message like this anon has.
I noticed a few years ago moot was bragging that the site had 25-26 million active users.. It is now about 20 mil. He has been hemorrhaging users, probably in good fucking part due to /pol/ and associated faggotry that they fueled the fire of like GG just poisoning so much of the site and bringing such authentic animosity towards not just moot but 4chan itself.
The site just needs to be /a/ and /b/ again, some portions aren't bad like /int/ or /lit/ but the more Moot made other boards the more it allowed the normalfags to come in and piss /b/ off.
I honestly doubt that it was /pol/ that killed moot's will to run the site. If you read his blog, you will see that he has been getting tired of it for a while now. He just wanted to move on with his life.
Why do you give a shit?
I've literally never spoken to him, nor replied to his posts, because he does not interest me in the slightest.
He made this shithole, so what? I have a PC and I wouldnt cry like a bitch just because Bill Gates journeyd into the great sleep.
I have never cared about what he has to say simply because he is moot, I'm sure I have replied to some of his posts as anon or something, but I wont miss him to be honest.
The shit he has pulled in the last years has rendered him nothing more than an enemy to anonymous posting and the very idea he first set out to accomplish.
He turned into some hipstershit SJW who loves beeing NTRd by his femenist girlfriends.
Godspeed you hipster faggot. May your dick remain unsucked in the corner of the room while your 3DPD sucks some big black cocks.
>But really, as I recall it, those /pol/fags were always here, even if they weren't calling themselves that back then.
They were, but there were differences.
The racism of "old" 4chan wasn't so much racism as just immature humour and taking things to such extreme lengths it was blatant parody. Like "the pool has aids", I don't really think the meaning behind it had racist intent hell you had real black people dressing up in suits and afro wigs and standing in swastikas in real life.
One of our greatest achievements was taking down Hal Turner back in the day, who was a racist shock jock. Take on Hal Turner today and /pol/ would be rushing to his defense as the "SJW's" ARE ATTACKING HIM!!!
Also the political right on 4chan were Paultards, not fascists, back then though, 4chan also had fucktonnes of Commies, Liberals and everything, a huge array of politics, which doesn't exist now as anybody who isn't a racist, far-right piece of shit has been chased off.
Hell politically what I remember most of earlier 4chan were the Tankies, not Nazis not Paultards.
Oh no, they can be controlled. Filter every fucking mannerism of speech they use, filter block all common images they use, the fucking works, in addition to of course just slaying any poltards on sight. You can build a word/phrase filter to probably 1000+ entries to completely deny anything they want to say or try to find each other with.
moot in his zeal to try to let everyone have their say utterly backfired with /pol/. I recall he said on the day he made that board that if it became /new/ again he would axe it. It got 100x worse than /new/ in terms of negative influences, helping spawn a useless conflagoration that escaped 4chan itself to fuck with the internet everywhere. And he did nothing. His shitting on the board in Dec. was too little too late. He doesn't have the balls to carry through with his own word, hopefully the mods/next admin will.
>make website's basis anonymity
>get surprised when people say their true feelings
Nah I think you just don't understand 4chan. If /pol/ was the root cause of Moot quitting (why didn't he quit when /new/ existed?) then Moot has lost faith in anonymity. And I don't think that's likely, otherwise he wouldn't have gone out of his way to speak at TED and Newsweek and stuff.
It seems that you're being a child who is looking for a scapegoat. I suggest you grow up.
So this place is going to hell now isn't it? Mods and Janitors will be breaking rules and deleting more threads that make them butthurt. Shitposting will be at an all time high. There will be 12 EVA fag threads instead of the usual 5.
All I can do is raise a glass to the man. Godspeed moot. His drunken shitposts were some of the best entertainment I ever had on this site. I may not have liked all the changes he made, but I always respected him for founding 4chan. RIP moot-sama.
>moot in his zeal to try to let everyone have their say utterly backfired with /pol/. I recall he said on the day he made that board that if it became /new/ again he would axe it.
This is the hilarious thing. Because of /pol/ I actually remember /new/ as a perfectly useable board where we discussed news events.
I'm not so sure it was even the case, but I do actually remember discussing news on /new/.
Hell anybody find it funny that /pol/ now is radical catholic, yet /new/ was atheist to the extreme? Remember how everyone ragged on constantly that tripfag? What was his name †Deus Vult† or something like that?
Of course it will go to hell, have you seen how bad it's been the past year and a half? The new moderation and administration will make things thousands of times worse, anons will attack mods, mods will attack anons out of personal reasons rather than modding the site according to rules. It's all going to be hell.
The /pol/ user base is isolated from the rest of the site culture. They are a front for stornfront redneck faggots. No one else likes them besides a few other boards filled to the brim with underage morons like /mlp/. I am dead fucking serious, they love /pol/. Not all boards interact with each other nor need each other; no one would miss /pol/ besides the kinds of people that literally ruined this site to begin with, in which case good fucking riddance if they can't stand being booted for being the most immense faggots on the site in its entire history, which is saying a lot considering 4chan. To be a true pariah on 4chan is quite an achievement of failure.
>get surprised when people say their true feelings
It's not their true feelings though, it's groupthink.
/pol/ outright attacks and spams anybody who doesn't share the same views as them and drives them off the board, so to be part of the /pol/ club, you have to censor yourself and play along with their bullshit.
The thing is, impressionable people, those that lack critical thinking and politically unaware will actually buy the shit /pol/ sells, so it becomes a self perpetuating cycle.
One can also not ignore the huge amount of astroturfing stormfront went to on 4chan, they had bots and everything you could download from their forums for targeting /pol/
>than modding the site according to rules
I don't think this has ever been modus operandi on 4chan. Especially with moot's stupid vague rules about what is worksafe or not, and what punishment you can expect for breaking which rules.
>"I will be the last one to turn the lights out".
For fuck's sake, I can't take this.
I didn't even feel bad when my brother killed himself, and now I'm sobbing over an internet admin stepping down from a shitty knockoff japanese site
>The /pol/ user base is isolated from the rest of the site culture.
Then why are you complaining? In one breath you complain about it leaking everywhere, and in the same breath you say it's "isolated."
Not to mention your post is filled with generalizations (as is >>120173851). I don't bother going on /pol/ because I have barely enough time to keep up with 2 boards anyway but honestly the vibe I get from you two is that you groupthink and generalize far more from them. Or, at least, your thoughts "leak" from isolation far more.
The path down authoritarianism is a very hard one. Maybe you should research into it before singing its praises.
Mods have always acted on personal issues rather than playing by the rules but in the coming weeks it's going to get worse and split the site down the middle, heed my prophecy, there will be a civil war of sorts between anons and mods, DDOS attacks of which the like have never seen. It will start with the announcement that the new changes what to make the site more mainstream than it is already.
moot said 'a lead developer, a sys admin, and a managing moderator' and that he plans to give up his ownership of the site somehow.
Basically we're witnessing the beginning of the triumvirate.
It's hard to get more arbitrary than moot. You don't delete and remake boards because of a consistent administrative philosophy.
On the other hand it's easy to introduce new rules that will be consistently enforced and shit up the site massively, or enforce one that hasn't been enforced in years and do the same.
Could be bad, could be good. I have zero optimism but we'll see.
Personally, I would leave /pol/ in existence, but these are the changes I would have made with new boards that would have been heavily moderated.
/phi/ - Philosophy
/news/ - News (news events outside politics)
/poli/ - Politics (heavily moderated for spam, astroturfing, derailment)
/his/ - history
/arc/ - architecture
I still can't believe we got fucking /biz/ which is a thinly veiled bitcoin board over fucking the most request board in 4chan, /his/tory.
I barely go on /pol/ anymore but anyone who claims that board is a hivemind is retarded. There are still many people with many different political opinions there, even actual SJWs. I'm not saying that /pol/ is good because it's not, it's full of shitposting retards. But blaming them from everything that is wrong with this site is just as retarded.
It is not authoritarianism, it is denial of an obvious metastatic tumor. If you remove a metastatic tumor the patient will still die anyway from the countless micro-tumors if he isn't responding to treatment, however he will last longer than he would have if they just left the main one intact to keep spreading shit all over the body.
moot tried hard to chemo it but chemo it only, he should have just removed it because if they want to be around here whether pol exists or not cannot be helped, but at least denying them a nest to fester in is a good start on improving the site's atmosphere.
It is a hivemind.
Go catalog it right now, it's entirely right wing shit.
There are no actual feminists on 4chan outside of /lit/. If someone is claiming they are a SJW on /pol/ or /v/, it's for the purpose of trolling.
I think my life, along with many others, has reached a fork in the road. Nothing is the same anymore. The things I once held dear are dying or changing. But even if I do become a different person, there will always be the time I spent with you guys.
Godspeed and sayonara, Anon. Save a spot for me at Gensokyo. I'll see you soon.
Well fuck. There's gonna be a civil war, one of them will be a huge faggot and seize control of the domain, and the other two will remake 4chan elsewhere.
I hope he makes a nonprofit "4chan foundation" to pay the server bills going forward with bylaws that keep the place from going to shit. But we're probably in for more drama and quite possibly a sale.
Kill yourself you gargantuan cock-guzzling faggot
Isn't that mostly nostalgia speaking, though? Sure, there was the nice and harmless kind of racism, but not everything was.
And letting /pol/ represent all of 4chan by saying that everyone else has been chased off is simply untrue. People have just learned to stay away from the worst boards, leaving them to stew in their own shit.
"Keep anything related to Nazi Germany in /pol/." Simple board rule, and could actually work.
We'd still have a bunch of people who know nothing about history but want to push a muh clay agenda, or spread myths actual historians debunked decades ago, but at least it wouldn't be /hitler/.
It may look like right wing shit but if you go into the threads and look at the discussions people have, you will see that it's far from being just right-wingers. A lot of the right-wing shit is just blatant shitposting that should be ignored by anyone who has a brain.
>There are are no actual feminists on 4chan outside of /lit/. If someone is claiming they are a SJW on /pol/ or /v/, it's for the purpose of trolling.
And you know that how?
>say they support "free speech"
>but if I try to post information about how white women prefer black men with pictures that illustrate the subject they whine to moot until I get banned
And that's because most of the world is left wing so right wing material are usually what's politically correct. From the polls on /pol/, there are tons of left wingers there too.
I believe we don't leave our memories behind.
You will remember this, anon. You will go on.
All this work has to be for something.
enjoy glorious 2D
I love this idea that the internet doesn't have a center-right slant to begin with.
That board is the major reddit politics and news board and is "USA USA USA, BROWN PEOPLE ARE SHIT, USA USA USA, FUCK RUSSIA, USA USA USA" non-stop.
>And you know that how?
The worst kind of poster is the one who can't identify a post so retarded that it is certainly either bait or a real post by someone too retarded to be worth replying to
This is the real Golden Rule of 4chan, which in modern times only /a/ still enshrines. Whether it be rec threads, SJWshit, or /pol/shit, the response should always be a resounding "fuck off"
On the one hand I agree, on the other hand I've used livejournal and tumblr for years and I still can't tell a troll SJW from the real thing. A troll reasonable feminist, yes, but SJWs aren't reasonable feminists but a mix of trolls and people who hold sincere opinions as loony as trolls pretend to hold anyway.
>it's for the purpose of trolling
More accurately, for false-flagging, so /pol/ can keep forcing their bullshit conspiracy theories and agendas down everyone else's throats and say "LOOK WE'RE PROTECTING YOU FROM THESE COMPLETE MORONS WHO DON'T ACTUALLY EXIST"
/pol/ used to not even be that bad though. I think watching the Republican Convention shut out Ron Paul a few years back killed the board's soul; the fascists and white nationalists used to be a small minority but now they basically run the board and spread their awful garbage all over the rest of the site.
Racist against 3D.
>Moot deletes /q/
I really don't know what the fuck is the deal with moot, /q/ was a fantastic board for community discussion on 4chan and an outreach to the admin and mod staff.
How does it feel knowing out of all the thousands of sperm that entered your mother, your sorry autistic half-celled fuckwit made it to the egg? Take pride in the only thing you'll ever accomplish, it brought you life after all.
>Mfw he didnt say goodbye to /v/ and left /pol/ a mess
Endure so you can watch 4.0 with us.
Gendo left this world too early.
/q/ was a shithole that /a/ basically had to monitor every day to make sure some entitled asshole from /v/ wasn't going to convince the mods to turn /a/ into a Toonami and Western Anime discussion board.
I don't go on Tumblr, but I know hardcore feminists who think the same as you.
For example, there is some movement on Tumblr called "Kin" where people go "I'm Grass-kin" etc etc and they can't tell if it's trolling or not, but either way me and them now constantly make fun of it, so we say stuff like "Sup nigga, don't worry I can say nigga because I'm black-kin"
I still can't tell if Headmates is a real movement or trolling through.
Now you sound just as paranoid as them with their jew conspiracies. How can you tell whether the SJWs on 4chan are /pol/ pretending to be SJWs or actual SJWs who came here from reddit and tumblr?
>Nothing but posts about jews ,black dicks and cucking
>modern times only /a/ still enshrines
Are you serious?
The average shitty bait gets tons of serious replies.
Hell, even acknowledging the bait doesn't mean shit if you still reply.
It's interesting that all the Libertarians became fascists almost instantly though.
So many people call Libertarians "Crypto-Fascists" and I think /pol/ may be a good example of that.
I want to post but I really don't want to interupt Komm Susser Todd in order to be able to concentrate on typing something thought provoking. Damn...
Ah, much better.
It's a sobering thought to think that one day we are brought into this world, we grow, learn, thrive, and multiply, and then as suddenly as it began it all ends.
I don't foresee it, but someday perhaps he will return, and leave the last post as parting words to this place.
Until then, it is up to all of us to keep going.
Fans come and go, dreams change, and though we may not admit it, and can't even imagine it we too shall pass.
I was not born an anime fan, I'm not confident I'll die one. None of us were born just to be anonymous, and someday we won't be.
For whatever reason, whether we move on, grow old, or even perish, we will not remain.
Let's enjoy it while it lasts and not worry about such uncertainties.
/a/ will live on as long as there are still anime being made and seen. 4chan will live on as long as people have passion to be heard through the huddled faceless masses.
That's who we are. Now then, this is all rather sad. I'm going to go watch some anime to cheer up.
I hear Kankolle has a new episode out.
Peace out Moot!
"If youre not liberal while you are young, you dont have a heart. If you're not conservative when you're old, you dont have a brain." -Winston Churchill.
Thats why. The majority of internet users are young, and the young always lead towards the left liberal hippie propaganda like world peace and shit. When you get older, you realize that is nothing but a useless dream and humans from different cultures will never truely coexist in peace.
We'll be seeing each other in Gensokyo, brother. There, we'll have a drink, laugh and be happy like we never were in this dimension.
Be safe cowboy, wait for me there.
I want /pol/ and /v/ to leave
We don't give a shit
Take your newfriends with you
Partly true, it's just the liberal ideals those young left leaning kids become the established paradigm to them, and when a new crop of young'uns show up to replace them, they cling onto the world they once shaped.
Easy. People on /pol/ don't actually understand basic feminist or sociological theory, so they use feminist/sociological words completely incorrectly and in the context of what /pol/ thinks the words mean, not what they actually mean.
We all have our time, anon. Best of luck with your endeavors, how many you see to. Make the best of your time, okay? Better things await.
Not only is the time too close, but both you and moot got 88.
Fuck it all man, I hope you can find your inner peace and be happy for the rest of the days.
Option A: those who have been running 4chan from the shadows over the recent years continue doing their shit and nothing changes too radically.
Option B: we're in for a world of hurt as the torch is eventually passed to the very people who are the antithesis of everything that 4chan stands for and they rape this website into dust.
It's all over now isn't it
Cui bono and Occam's razor. tumblr and reddit don't "invade" places, and every time they do it's been completely pathetic. Moreover, they have nothing to gain by posting the same shitty stale strawman copypastas on multiple boards every fucking day.
The authoritarianism is your judgement of what is "cancer," m8.
I'm fine with you having your own personal views. I'm sure if you posted on /pol/ you'd be one voice out of many there.
The issue I take is that you want to use an authority to deem what is right and wrong, based on personal idiosyncrasies. I don't agree with that methodology in the slightest.
