Probably either Evangelion, FMA (2003) or maybe Berserker is what started my full investment into anime

I had seen stuff on Teletoon like Naruto and Inu-Yasha before of course, and I liked them, but that wasn't enough to really get me into it as much as I have today

I suppose the latter shows may have just built up my "tolerance" for it to the point where I was later comfortable enough to consume more of the media.

The first anime I watched were on Toonami; DBZ, Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakusho, Gundam Wing. Than I started watching on Adult Swim; Inuyasha and Bleach. Of course there were also the Saturday morning anime like Yugioh and Pokemon along the way. At some point I decided to try anime online and went with Blood+ (didn't quite like it) and stemmed out from there. I started watching airing anime every back in 2012. The anime that actually got me into it more though was School Rumble

How is it?

I can't remember because I watched a ton when I first got into it. My dad liked anime so we'd get VHS tapes of stuff like Guyver, Akira, GITS, Bubblegum Crisis, etc. I also watched Toonami religiously though. No clue what came first.

I watched anime with the typical afterschool toonami block but wasn't super into it until I started watching Stardriver Sundays with /a/. Now I'm hooked.

The first anime I ever watched at all was Sailor Moon, but the first anime I ever watched enthusiastically was Detective Conan, not to say I didn't like Sailor Moon, I loved that shit a lot, but I remember waiting up really quietly every night to watch the 1 hr block of Conan from 11pm-12am. So I'll go with that. Good times.

It was one of the first anime to hit the western world in english, and when you compared macross to the cartoons people would have been watching in the late 80s, its easy to see how people were floored by it. Character death, crazy designs and action, animation quality especially for macross, world building, etc.

They used the SDF branding, but they aren't really related in any way.

Robotech took Macross as the original generation, and then slapped two completely unrelated mecha animues to be the Second and Third generations.

Basically it took Macross and began using it to pump out weeb fanfiction. I think Japan actually thought the idea of the generational progression was kind of neat, though, and Macross would use that.

Oh, but it also tried to make a fanwank explanation for what happened to the SDF-1. Their fate is a mystery in Macross, and is intended to be because they won't return to that ship since the seiyuu is literally dead now.

First anime contacts probably were YYH, DBZ, CCS, SlamDunk, SaintSeiya, VersaillesnoBara and the whole package of various shows airing here back in the 90's.
As far as getting deeper into it, probably watching NGE, dubbed, week by week on MTV.

Still love all of those three series, to this day.

The first anime I ever watched was Dagger of Kamui a long time ago. I also watched Dragonball growing up but I was only aware of it as a show, not as anime in general. Some older neighbors used to rent shows like Bubblegum Crisis, Gunbuster, Macross and Orguss so I had some exposure to those as well. The first show I saw that actually got me into anime in general was when a friend rented Ranma 1/2. After that I started watching whatever series were available at the time.
