>>119859289 From last season, Ushinawarete and Daitoshokan both had way too much drama in it. Didn't even finish Vanadis. I actually liked Trinity Seven's drama, since it wasn't focused on romance bullshit.
>>119859505 Also the MC needs to be interesting or at least entertaining. Can say all you want about only watching harems for the girls, but the MC has far more screentime than any other character. Shit MCs bring the whole show down.
>>119860197 Ken akamatsu art style is good and he create ai ga tomaranai. Ai ga tomaranai ending is typical harem ending. That's why at first the Love hina is famous harem genre because ken akamatsu first works is harem. Honestly love hina is a clone of ranma. There is nothing special about it. Its just the hype/overrating and the art of negima is one of the top one in harem manga.
Harem anime needs to learn to be funny and still do writing well.
Completely 1 dimensional characters are a crippling weakness. It worked out for a while and spawned some funny anime here and there but it just wont cut it forever. 'Dense MC' is a super common and super effective example of this shit being at it's worst.
For example Ichika from Infinite Stratos is, apparently, 90% fucking sexually and emotionally dead.
Yeah, he gets embarrassed and blushes and spills spaghetti. People aren't that simple though. It doesn't just work like that. It makes no sense that a guy his age surrounded by beautiful women who all want to support him wouldn't fall in love and have an interest in one himself. Ichika should have died of blue balls over all the abuse he's been put through at the very least. How he manages to dodge developing a romantic attachment is silly.
It also makes no sense that aside from humor it seems like his character has 0 leanings when it comes to what he likes from the girls. He's completely free of fetishes and desires of that nature whenever it's not a siscon joke it seems. Come the fuck on. At least make it an interesting one. Infinite Stratos would be more entertaining by far if Ichika had turned out to be a closet sadist.
There is plenty wrong with how typical harem tropes go for the girls too but if the MC is bad than the girls being shit just makes sense.
>>119860197 Rarely anybody replicating typical random comedy like love hina. Lot of typical harem involve drama. Love hina typical harem rooted from lum and ranma both of rumiko takahashi famous harem manga. That's nothing new or just recycle old idea, though.
No betas, more Alphas. Less Self-Inserting in the process Stop the first girl introduction by introducing ALL the girls in a single scene and then introduce more characters if need be More focus on side characters such as best friends getting with one of the girls in the harem More true harem endings If a character is going to be tsundere, there needs to be a valid reason as to why she's being tsun. Most authors decide to give them the "anti-social, putting up walls excuse", this is fine but other things can be used. Remove deredere entirely Give the loli a chance to be the love interest Give the cake/milf a chance to be the love interest Stop making Japan the only setting Stop making adaptations if you're not going to follow them fully Stop authors from pandering to otakus who want a certain character to win Add a chubby girl in the mix Add more traps Less drama, more fun. Save the drama for the ending Add a yuri couple in the background Give MC a unique trait that makes him special
>>119859189 - remove stupid romance stereotypes - give a good characterization to every girls - show how their lives don't revolve/aren't turned upside-down by the MC because he's so awesome - give closure and show how the other girls go on in their life - don't throw supernatural elements in it because it's cool
You know what almost looks like a harem and is done right? Hourou Musuko.
I havent watched a harem anime in awhile, but i always disliked certain harems that have that one main girl everyone knows will win but they throw in the other girls just to make the confession take lomger amd longer to happen. If its harem, let it be ambigious who is gonna win from the beginning.
>>119860669 >>119862116 Actually every single one of those was great minus the traps, unless we talking reverse traps. But especially the focus of side characters, i always want that bro to get a hook up.
pair everyone up at the end. Or at least, all the important people.
this solution solves the problem of the MC being awful and dragging the show down, because it demands other male characters to be created.
it also lets more girls "win", as they discover their true love was not the MC, just because he saved her from a car that one time, but rather the other dude who is actually interested in her and not tied up in some bullshit childhood-friend-promise like the MC is.
you ever seen a musical? everybody gets married at the end. sometimes even the male and female choruses are implied to be getting married. pairing up is wonderful.
one girl winning and the rest just "being happy for her" is awful
Archetypes and cliche's are fine, but the problem is that they can become really bogged down by key elements in a show. Take a page from Tenchi Muyo. Tenchi is the densest mother fucker to ever exist, he's so dense he's a literal singularity wrought out of sheer improbability that has three conceptual deities on his dick. That is dense. But you don't really feel it watching Tenchi Muyo, because for the most part the harem aspect of the harem series focuses on the harem itself, rather than male protagonist. Tenchi and his status as some combination of Luke Skywalker, King Arthur and Neo combined don't really have much baring on the harem or the show itself. If you have cute girls that play well with one another you can shove the plot and MC-kun to the side and still have an enjoyable series.
>>119870369 Tenchi isn't dence, he's either 1) Worried about other shit 2) In the middle of trying not to get mixed up in shit 3) Doesn't give a fuck
Tenchi's pretty aware of Ryoko's advances, but they usually come in the middle of moments like 1) After fighting her and his school being blown up 2) Being trapped on Ayeka's ship 3) He's trying to change his clothes.
>>119870645 That doesn't change the fact that he is dense. He has more than enough downtime with a house full of waifus across multiple continuities to either fug or say "no, I don't wanna fug". That is dense.
There's no fixing it. Or at least not in the sense of trying to pretend like you've got a running plot going on, because everything about the harem is the anti-thesis of development.
I'm sick of seeing these bitches at each others throat for the cock of some jackass and then pretending like they're all actually friends. Enough of that horseshit, just have them tolerate each other's company for whatever reason.
ACTUALLY bother having a relationship form at the end, and for good reason too. None of this open end coward horseshit, you make something happen, damnit.
Don't make a "main" girl, or "first girl", because then it jut becomes obvious who the winner is, and then you quickly realize that everything else is fucking pointless foreplay.
>>119860669 >More focus on side characters >More true harem endings >More valid reasons to be tsundere >Give the cake a chance to be the love interest >Less drama, more fun >Add a yuri couple in the background
>>119862116 Nothing wrong with any of these things. Now watch you fucking retards call me a yurifag just because I said one little thing positive about yuri even though it's explicitly in the background where it can't bother any self-insertfags and means more cute girls in a show.
And saying more harem ends are a bad idea in a genre literally fucking named HAREM? Kill yourself.
>>119859220 >>119859366 Making the MC a girl replaces the stupid male protagonist with a stupid female protagonist. The only difference cute girls. Yuri should die as anime anyways if it's not going to fucking innovate to entertain audiences and just limit itself to stupid fucking SoL subtext drama in the same piece of shit 3Dshit world highschool setting.
>>119875601 >Derederes are pure love, and they deserve all the love they give. Not if you see how one dimensional they are, they are nothing but waifubait. Whenever they appear in any harem, their love for the MC is often shallow. They are a waste of time and are not interesting in the slightest.
A harem but each member is actually a reincarnation of a god who the MC has to wake up and guide them back to their status so that the world can be saved from some other bullshit gods trying to claim a stake in the forgotten territory. Each god is a super obscure one from the real world like ishtar or something.
A harem but all of the members are tomboys representing a different sport in the school and the MC is a natural athletic prodigy who is desired by each of the girls for their own clubs. He eventually sees them for the lying bitches they are and goes full /fit/.
A harem where all the haremettes are yanderes who have simultaneously fallen in love with MC. One is a childhood friend, the other is an oujo-sama, third is the russian transfer student weightlifter, fourth is his CC brown teacher. He has to find a way to balance their affections with their tendency to violently lash out against being ignored.
A harem where all the members are actually the MC who he projects onto the world from his own mental issues. Each one represents another one of his facets and as the series goes on he slowly grows more and more insane which is reflected in each of the members becoming more obssessive and violent towards him and others.
An intergalactic harem where each member is actually an alien representing their species on a quest to acquire a human specimen for experimenting. MC is singled out because he's special and some shit and has to fight each of the harem members to keep his freedom. They die on the way back to their home planets.
A wacky scientist decides to create his perfect robot waifu and does so by creating an entire group of them and programming them to compete for his virginity. Whoever manages to win gets to stay alive and becomes the perfect waifubot. The true protagonists are the robots who want to keep living but need his approval to do so.
You don't. Harem is nothing but a self-insert "every girl wants me!" fantasy
It's fucking terrible from the start. Maybe make it better by not having the harem shit being the main plot and it just going along with a proper story. Most plots in harem are fairly fucking terrible though, so it's not much help.
I don't know. Make it funnier?? Most people enjoy comedy shows. But if you do this, do it without using the same generic jokes and humor. There's just a lack of originality in harem.
Also, destroy the ambiguous end. I honestly would prefer to have just one chosen than a bullshit "nothing fucking happened" ending. Literally nothing is accomplished
Harem end I think is the terrible end that the terrible harem concept deserves. It's a fantasy right? Why push monogamous tendencies in HAREMS? It's a fucking terrible idea, so give it the proper ending. The inconsistency annoys me.
>all these people that don't want betas Fuck you alphas go watch some hollywood action flick if you want to see your precious Tom Cruise acting all alpha. Thank god it's Otakus who decide what's made and not you guys or else anime would just be Western TV and movies, but animated.
>>119876106 I disagree because the fun part about tsunderes is the fact that you have to figure out what makes them "tick". While trying to figure them out, you find yourself getting attached to them. They often have the best facial expressions and they are helpless when it comes to love. It makes bullying them seem appealing.
