Fubuki class were re-armed with Long Lance during the course of WW2. They had 61cm torpedo tubes, which were able to accept the type 90 when it became more widely available.

Special type destroyers had a design deficiency in the lack of maturity from arc welding process. This was the first time that Japan used alloyed steel extensively to reduce weight, and due to Washington Treaty limitations, the destroyers were made rather top-heavy. Fubuki class couldn't meet their designed top speed and that they had to be significantly restrengthened after the Fourth fleet incident of 1935 where the structural defects became apparent.

(Hatsuyuki and Yugiri's bow got torn right off from in stormy seas. The sailors in bow section were killed by shell fire to keep the details of the damage secret.)
