Sumika got eaten and Kureha got "eaten".

But I can't shale the feeling that there's not that much of a difference. It kinda ruins the symbolism if something stands for two different things.

Sumika is gone. Nowhere to be seen. Invisible? And Ginko won't forgive those who destroy love. That had me thinking Sumika may have been somewhat less than sincere about the relationship, and Kureha is still around because her love was true.

The connection between getting eaten and lesbian sex being less than subtle, could it be that Sumika, who was just fooling around in Class S, and once the bears showed her the real deal she quickly buggered off to the safety of normality (in this case heterosexuality first and foremost), she became just another face in the crowd, invisible, gone.

Kureha on the other hand is serious about it all, so she wasn't scared off, she's still around and visible.

If we break it down, it's このみ meant like 好み, which means "prefference, taste, choice" - basically what you like. It's read "konomi", which is also the name of one of the girls.

Then the verb is 尽きる - "tsukiru", which is "run out, get used up, get exhaused" etc. So I interepreted "preferences running out" as one's taste changing.

And lastly 許さない - "yurusanai", which means like "I won't allow it, I won't forgive you, I won't approve of it" etc.

So in the end it's kinda hazy.

I don't think that really fits. When a vampire bites a victim it can be symbolic of sex, or it could symbolise something else, or there could be nothign intended beyond a predator having a meal. Whether this kills the prey, or turns it, or leaves it enthralled doesn't need to change the symbolism of the act itself.

So with the bears, regardless of whether the victim merely wakes up in the nurse's office afterwards or is gone with just some bloodstains to show for it, I feel that the whole "getting eaten" thing probably only means one, single thing, instead of Sumika getting eaten, and Kureha getting "eaten".

Symbols loose potency when they refer to many different things, if your vampires are there to tell a story about sexual predation then you don't want some bites to be date rape in disguise while some are just plain old bites. And if you want to tell a story through symbolism, then strong symbols will probably make for greater impact.

Therefore I suspect Ikuhara doesn't have some girls eaten and others "eaten", but rather everyone who gets eaten gets the same treatment, the difference in outcome is down to how they react to it. Those who are actually down with the dykes remain, while those who were just playing around disappear, become normal.

When the siblings are together in penguindrum I don't really see it as a sign of tension or any bad omens at all.
When they are together you can see all the specters of the rainbow in the room, it may be chaotic, but it still looks like a message of happiness, as if everything was just right in that moment. Even the cushions they are on kind of represent the differences in their personality.
The room in YuriKuma, differently, do send some signs of disturbance. The contrast between the pink, the green, and the orange (that gets even more emphasized for some reason, maybe the choice of colors) just doesn't feel right.
To tell the truth, I didn't notice this while watching. Over-analyzing stuff with /a/ sure is fun.

Is she being really sincere and is oblivious to the indecency of such an act? Surely it's a calculated move. She repeatedly talks about becoming part of Sumika and Kureha's friendship circle. The reason the first season is worse is because it doesn't do anything to flesh out the truly interesting themes of terrorism and child abandonment that are introduced in the second half, and because it meanders so much in the beginning, it makes parts of the second half rushed.
The ending is also an incredible swell to a beautiful thematic climax that brings all of the themes and references together.
I feel like the first half just isn't Ikuhara enough, and the second half fixed that. You seem like you just don't like how it relies so much on allegory, so you might be more interested in more conventional anime.
