It didn't portray Shirou's inner thought processes well enough most of the time, making him look like an idiot hero instead of somewhat with deep convictions, and awkwardly tried to cram in Heaven's Feel spoilers where they didn't fit. (I was alright with the UBW spoilers, for the most part. They were just an extra fight here or there.)

The animation looks bad now, especially compared to the fucking amazing job ufotable is doing, but it had moments of absolute brilliance back in the day. I was hyped as fuck at Excalibur.

It's also notable that DEEN's Fate/Stay Night was the first time F/SN was voiced at all, and I think we can all agree that the cast they chose is pretty great.

It was certainly popular enough to prompt TM to make Realta Nua, and was arguably the reason why TM is a name pretty much all otaku and weebs know, as opposed to the monstrosity that was the adaptation we don't name.

The first episodes were actually great. And even if it did not have much in animation the sound, sound direction, and film direction all made up for it.

But then it got progressively worse and by the halfway point and forward it was such a mess that it was essentially salvageable.

It's no wonder that the show was a huge success. Because it did have many strengths as well as a solid start. Laying a very promising groundwork, and that's how you get loyal followers.
But then the flaws just keeps on growing overtaking the whole production.

So basically. The very start is actually solid. And then it gets a bit worse but the audience is already more invested so it makes up for it.
But then when the audience is the most invested, it fails tie itself together.

About the biggest flaw in how DEEN's F/SN was handled in the end is the character exposition. That for most part takes the back seat if not skipped entirely. In favour cutting and cutting to the next plot point instead moving forward.
And that does indeed move the show forward, which in truth kept it from being stagnant. But as it moved forward while doing a sorely lacking job at making the audience get to know and learn about the characters and the actual plot pieces it so quickly moved through, the quick cutting forward just leaves the show more and more disconnected with the audience.
And at this point it is very hard for the directing to make up for the already lacking animation and other failing aspects of the adaptation.

It's a rather typical example of one of those shows that can really reel you in and keep you hooked for the course of its show, while still going out with a whimper and leaving you unsure if you would ever recommend it to anyone no matter how hooked you may have been at one point.
Now add the fact that the show still quite thoroughly spoils the source material that does not share its heap of flaws. Its own flaws not withstanding, but the adaptation still shames the original.

I watched the anime years ago, didn't really fucking understand what was going on but thought it was pretty memorable. I distinctly remember having a conversation years ago with a dude who asked me if I knew who Archer was and I replied "Of course, he's Robin Hood".

There are tons and tons of things legitimately wrong with Sailor Moon Crystal's animation. But here you can easily see the intent behind the frame even if this too could surely be of higher quality.

But this is a legitimate in-between frame to catch the attention of the eye complementing the movement of the scene as she moves underneath the screen, backwards further away from the screen, while moving upwards towards the left.

In-betweening is far more than just smear and tween frames. And while this may be of relatively poor quality, as stated, you can see this exact same technique be used by highly regarded pieces of work. Where the anatomy is off-set for the blink of an eye in order to catch the attention, steering the movement of the eye in accordance to the movement of the scene.

And no, it is honestly not my intention to defend Sailor Moon Crystal. That show was an embarrassing mess and the animation was fucking awful.
But it's because the animation was awful that it actually bothers me that people keep posting this in-between frame so much even though it has a legit intent and purpose behind it. Just stop it. You are doing yourself a disservice and you might as well bash all the other things that are just legitimately awful about Sailor Moon Crystal.

It says a lot about DEEN's quality control, though.

The problem with fate peeps, is that they're also the older of fags around.(At least originally, now it's just a huge mess), and they set the mood for what to expect from fate. The typical /a/non who'd shit on plenty of shows for being too...shounen, and then you have people who bandwaggoned on shounen=bad, and these fate dudes are still praising the fuck out of fate, and THEN, fate/zerofags became a thing, and started playing up fate, without knowing the rest of it was VERY different from fate/zero, so all this combines, making some sort of Hype balloon. It doesn't help for many people it was literally baby's first VN.

Anyway, after all that, the anime shows up, and now you have people going. "Woah woah woah, all these years these people were allowed on /a/, talking about their SHOUNENSHIT!" because now they realize, yes it is shounen.(which isn't inherently bad, but it's become a buzzword on /a/), the zerofags realize. "WOAH, it would be SO MUCH more MATURE for mature people such as myself if it wasn't written by Nasu" and then you just have the people who didn't like it in the first place, now validated in their hate.

And THAT is where all the hate comes from.

What KS truly is, is inconsistent and a mess.
And this is not odd considering that it was written by several writers and how the different routes and parts written by different writers are clearly disjointed because of it.

Like how the common route was primarily written by one guy. Fine. The same guy wrote Hanako's route, so there is actually overlapping consistency here.
But then you jump to something like Rin's or Emi's routes or whatever, and fuck it if it's not just entirely different. Not consistent with how the common route was written.

Katawa Shoujo is a huge fucking mess. That is how I would describe it. I won't deny that there actually are parts to Katawa Shoujo that actually are good. But the package that is Katawa Shoujo as a whole is a huge fucking mess. And I would be very hard pressed to say that it's not bad.
At the very least, if you are to read Katawa Shoujo, you should go in knowing that it is a mess, and learn a bit of the nature of how and why it's a huge mess. But it's still a mess.

I actually disagree on that, UFO UBW has been about 8-9/10 for me so far with everything. They fucked up the Berserker fight but everything else has been pretty fuckin gr8. Date scene was perfect and Rin is moe as shit.

There is a chance for them to make the adaptation solid. Adapt the monologue into a mixture of quick visuals that can be easily understood and dialogue. UFO could even change the "If parts of me are broken use parts of me that aren't." bit into a cry of rage towards Archer in saying how he'll always try to surpass himself.

Showing Shirou's unwaverable gaze has to be on point though. Along with how his fighting style shifts cause from watching the DEEN fight it just shows them jumping around and clashing when in the VN he's fucking buckling under each strike momentarily before instantly delivering another blow.

Also I have read the entire VN. I'm not some kind of casual that's afraid of words.

Well it the grand Nasuverse it's a medium sized incident that is a well kept secret of Nippon.

What the fuck does that even mean, let alone entail? They're already dealing with the war 50 years early because of the previous fuck up. Saber isn't talking about her wish because of the events in Zero making her insecure about it, Gilgamesh and Kirei actually have wishes for the grail now unlike Zero, and Shirou and Rin are following in the footsteps of their parents before them. The only characters who aren't really getting closure from Zero are Sakura and Zouken because of Heavens Feel and with the stuff Ufotable is adding in who knows what the deal with Ilya will end up being overall. There really isn't anything you can add on other than the few things from the Fate route that deal with Saber or the points from HF that deal with Sakura, Ilya, and Zouken.
