It was the right sort of person and personality in each character.

Nonon being a supreme bonermancer even when compared to the female leads is kinda proof. The voice. The attitude. The outfits. All worked out just right.

dub does fantastic with voices for the most part, but you may not like Senketsu's voice as it isn't NEARLY as deep as the Japanese version.

and about Senketsu, I heard a lot of people bitch about the name pronunciation in English. "Senkets" and "Junekets" are how they are pronounced here. Had to go back and NOT read the subs to notice they weren't exactly wrong in doing it this way.

however it doesn't change the fact that the word is Senketsu, not Senkets.
It sounds fine with a Japanese accent, but the English VAs funnily enough don't have Japanese accents, so should pronounce the word in it's entirety.

Senketsu's dubbed VA is fucking terrible.

They sound like they had fun recording it all, like they understood that the tone of the show wasn't serious grimdark so they were able to really just throw themselves into the over the top roles.

Characters were all very distinct, their personalities could be heard coming through every time they spoke, and they were usually accompanied by a kickass theme to tie their dialog together.

Nui's theme in particular made every little thing she did seem menacing, like you never wanted to take your eyes off her, her every word was a red flag.

Power and discipline just radiated off of Satsuki.

Really the strongest thing about this show for me was the characterization. Everyone's performance and theme just tied them together, so all the characters had presence.

And Goku and Kamui are just Goku and Kamui. It sounds about as awkward as you'd expect from people who already awkwardly deliver lines that are entirely English.

Native speakers drop sounds off of various words in various languages all the time, but the words still sound right because they're in the right accent, context, and inflection. It doesn't work when foreigners try to do it because they aren't native speakers.

They just left them as "goku uniform," which sounds ok, and "kamui," which does not. I can usually overlook mispronunciations if it sounds unaffected but you can hear the VAs stumbling over it.

Well, it's an Aniplex dub. Pretty sure the Japanese directors were the ones that told the actors how names and such should be pronounced... they usually have final say.

It's crazy how fitting that voice is ESPECIALLY since everyone originally thought it would be the worst and hardest voice to try and properly have an english Dub handle.

Honestly. I do like the dub, but I wish there was slightly more emotion from the VAs. It seems like some of them , especially Gamagoori and Senketsu, are almost ways speaking in the same tone. Concerning Senketsu I thought they were going to make him sound more human over time, but he's only changed his tone a few times.
also, holy shit Takarada's English voice was an unexpected direction but I suppose it's fitting. In general some of the English VAs are vulgar and blunt which can be funny at times.

I really don't like how vulgar the dub is though. Like Ryuko's an insult machine but they're all more lighthearted than anything like perpetually frowning caterpillar eyebrows, but then the dub it's all "You little shit bitch I'll cut your fucking throat" like it's desperately trying to be P&S when it's not supposed to be.

I think the dub is decent at times. There's so many things that jar me out of it, though, whether it's poor delivery or pronunciations (it wouldn't be so bad if they just didn't labor over them), or just bad writing, in some cases.

Sanageyama's particularly grating. His VA is ok but he talks like a frat boy when in Japanese he's the honorable delinquent/samurai wannabe and actually speaks pretty politely, especially when you compare him to Ryuko (who does the delinquent rolled R's, slurred vowels, etc thing). Even Satsuki uses more informal speech than he does. I don't know if it was a consequence of making the dub more "off-color" or what.

Ryuuko almost seems bi-polar at times in the dub. She can be talking one second and then yelling obscenities the next.
I could see Ryuuko to be one to swear, given her delinquent past, but as you said it seems more like they're trying to be like PSG and do it for laughs. Which I can't help laughing at because how poorly placed or timed some of the conversations are.
The dub really could have been better, it's not god-awful, but it certainly isn't amazing either.
