The biggest flaw of Mahoyo as things currently stand is not the content itself, but how it ends inconclusive as the the first part in an as of yet inconclusive story.

Yes, though in general it has a lot more visual novels parts and the dungeon parts themselves are more involved.
It's a pretty nice game where Nasu has fun breaking various things Extra was serious about and his setting in general so I generally think it's among his best work but I'm not the biggest fan of his so.

Translation is only part of the process to make english patches.
But i do expect somebody to pack something toghether if this guy will keep at it.
Say, he finish the route he's currently doing (Gil, i think), taking that TL as base and releasing a patch for that part should be possible.
The question is if this guy will keep going till the end (it's alone and tranlating such a long game sure needs serious motivation), and if there will be somebody keen to do the technical/editing side of things (which is surely less hard to find when there's a translation done).
He said he actually plan to do other character/routes when he's done with current one, and he has been going for a while already with quite a sizeable amount of entries, so i do have high hopes about his project.

I do, as someone who is pretty familiar with the language.
In term of skill ceiling french is pretty high up there, to be able to master it you have to be pretty fucking good.
And when you do master it you have some of the best novels ever, I really do think France has a wealth of great literature, but the more "common" works usually have pretty shit writing.

Looks at the shits some popular writers like Levy make for example, no sense of style and read like crap but he still sell millions or the random titles that are enhanced by the critics like Le Royaume recently for example.
Nothing but mediocre writing, no sense whatsoever.

Well in Le Royaume case the writer compensated with a pretty good plot but it's another matter.

So when you have amateurs who translate stuff in french I pretty much automatically assume it's going to read like shit and so far hasn't been disappointed.
I like french a lot as a language and again when it's used well it reads really fucking well but that's the truth

What exactly is wrong with the Higurashi translation's style? I've heard almost all good reviews about it. It sounds fine to my crappy french, although I guess that doesn't really mean anything.

In japanese you aren't really "tied" to a tense, a writer who go from past to present, etc... from one line to another isn't penalized, it's pretty standard writing technique.

Hes saying the guy could speak french but he couldn't write prose worth reading, and that doing so in french is more difficult than in english. You get the same thing in english LN translations where theres nothing technically wrong but the way everything is written makes you want to gouge your eyes out.
