asshole, scum of the earth villains are great too. ones you actually hate to the point where you feel your ears heat up as they speak. villains who are realistically horrible people and who patronize and scoff at the protagonists are great. basic example is Dio kissing Erina and smacking her around. he went out of his way to hurt jonathan right where it hurt most, and had himself an evil chuckle about it after.

I can understand that shit too. Personally I always figured edgy was supposed to mean the show was trying seriously hard at being dark purely the the sake of being dark or trying to pass off as particularly mature content. These days people fling it at anything with an attitude they don't like though. The only thing that made me think of the term in recent memory was Akame ga Kill, but that shit is hardly fair since that sort of show will probably never be my cup of tea anyway and it's easy to be biased as fuck.

I especially like it when the characters in question are really made to seem god like or they're decked out with super weapons or something and as the fight drags on and they're both getting worn down and exhausted until all that's left are just the two of them and they just start punching the shit out of each other. First of all, it's better that it did end right there because the way the manga goes after it's finished its adaptation is nothing short of a clusterfuck with time travel, gender bending, evil old me, the works. Not only that but the adaptation itself is pretty fair. A huge chunk of time spent inside of a gigantic girls bedroom in the manga = a huge chunk of time spent inside a girls bed room in the manga. That's not poor episode planning, that's a faithful adaptation.

Also, in terms of animation it's actually very good, and it has even better music than that. And are you really going to complain about ecchi in an ecchi manga? That is dumb

I can't think of many fights like Ed vs. Greed that pull off the quick and skillfull decisive finisher as satisfyingly as that. Usually it's just a character being so powerful that they kill their opponent in one hit which is of course no fun at all.

Most of you guys are too young to remember this but I was on /a/ when this anime was airing.

Literally the situation was akame ga kill adaptationitus 1.0, as he said.

There was so much hype from the mongofans before the show started then as time went on /a/ became a battleground over with it was shit or not.

They literally suffered the same problems with the director, corny dialogue, censorship, sponsorship pandering, added scenes that made no sense... Mostly because they were both underbudget for two course series.

Ironically they both have decent OSTs but the manga fanbase hyped the series both times that would make one wonder if they would have near movie quality animation because of it was be assume this would be Madhouse's/Whitefox's most incredible work.

This actually almost happened a third time with studio Gonzo and a god tier battle series called 'Alive: The Final Evolution'.

This kind of shit happens because executives like to tell authors that it's going to be advertisement for the original medium even if it's not a perfect adaptation and the studio views it as basically a 'junk-bond' of sorts, "if Elfin lied and Shadowstar Narutaru were able to gain relative success food budget juggling maybe we might hit a golden egg too"

In the anime Cruz is the brains of the operation and while it may seem cheezy I liked the normal guy being the linch pin in a pass or fail operation between a bunch of x-men. And that's still a forte of his in the manga, but when you give him not a power but THE power that makes him the ultimate shield, he looses a lot of dynamic in any given scenario. He know longer has to be protected, and now he can defend himself against incredibly powerful attacks. Akame ga Kill was a faithful adaptation up until the anime-only-end and it fucking sucked because literally everything was just copy-pasted from the manga.
Scenes like Tatsumi/Wave equipping Incursio/Grand Chariot should have fucking amazing in anime form, but they were just so underwhelming because the anime team did nothing creative with them, just copied over the manga panels for a stylish still frame, added voices and sound effects and there you go.

I agree that some studios take too much liberty with what they adapt, but there has to be SOME direction that makes the anime a different experience than the manga other than seeing the characters move between manga frames.

Meruem even tries to talk with him instead of fighting and Netero just fucking ignores all words of reason in order to crush the enemy.

More bonus points (independant of the first bonus points) if the character dies horribly by getting simply outpowered and crushed. It doesn't have to a tragic death, but as long as they get introduced as invincible flawless death incarnate on the battlefield, and end as a dying husk against an enemy they could barely scratch.

Dude, Dragonball was great for that kind of thing. The Krillin vs. Goku fight in the second tournament was great. He fucking shot the kamehameha into the air, then spun around and punched Krillin in the face.

There might be some, but I've never seen one pull it off with Shishio's... panache is the word, I think. He was a really fucking awesome villain, took Kenshin's ultimate attack in the face and kept right on coming, only died because his body gave out beneath him.

That's part of the beauty of that fight though. Kenshin couldn't kill him any more than he could kill anyone else. It was beyond him as a character to defeat Shishio because of the oaths he swore and because Shishio was willing to go so much farther to achieve victory.

Good choreography in general and actually being able to tell what the fuck is happening at first glance. Those are basic tenets but a lot of comics lack it.
