It introduced the two worst things to ever happen to Berserk - magic (in the form of the witch loli) and the Berserk armor. Guts fighting all these fantasy creatures instead of monsters that were once human is also a big step down.

Magic and berserk armour where what the series needed in my opinion. Berserk has taken several genre shifts from medieval action to dark fantasy and the party elements were pretty interesting and developed the lore nicely. My biggest issue is that Gut's combat is now less tactics and grit and more just mindless sword rolls. It seems Miura will write off the berserk armour or at least make it stop controlling Guts so much so this isn't a huge issue.

Yeah, that's the reason why I hate it. Hellhound hasn't even done shit asides from getting rekt by small children and shit talking Guts, and even hid in the background when Griffith returned. It'll be hilarious to see Casca neuter him.

Those are the only things that are getting Guts closer to curing Casca and killing Griffith. There was no way for the story to progress beyond low level apostle slaying as long as Guts remained The Black Swordsman, and even that would eventually get dull if there was no sense of progress.

I can understand the criticism that the berserker armour means there's no more epic strategy, but I feel Miura's explored that almost as much as he can and we're due for a sort of evolution in Eflhelm, possibly making the armour harder to activate but nigh impossible to bring back if it does.

Schierke gives too much security to the jRPG party. It doesn't feel like there's anything at stake because she (or the kid) will stop Guts from giving into the armor every time. Fantasy setting or not, magic itself was just thrown in with little buildup before.

Talking Zodd, his destiny is not foreseeable by Sonia. Will he have to choose between Griffith's love rides and facing the "absolute strongest" (which aside from special beings such as the weak elemental spirits and the almighty IoE would be Void IMO)?

I see Hellhound becoming a huge threat by the end of the series. Miura's only just introduced the concept and now that we've come to expect that Schierke can just swoop in and save him whenever it's a good time to start to mix up the formula.

Obviously it couldn't have been all about Apostle slaying, and I like Conviction arc the most for returning Casca and Griffith to the story, but I think my main complaint is that Miura should have introduced these story elements in a better way. Introducing fantasy monsters, witches, magic and the armor upon everything else in one arc is a lot to work with, even for him. I liked Millenium Falcon, don't get me wrong, but it's just the way he executed it that I have issues with.

The issue with the armor isn't the drawbacks, which is nice because it will create more drama later on, but how overpowering the armor actually is compared to when Guts didn't wear it.

When Guts was without his armor, he felt like he was struggling with the skin of his teeth to stay alive. Now, although he's pulling insane stunts, it no longer seems realistic.

To many, not having the armor and constantly getting regen from the fairy dust was better.

But Guts almost got owned by Cthulhu's heart, and that was the latest time he used the armor. And then he drowned in the sea, or would have if it wasn't anticlimactic as fuck and the kid didn't save him.
OP moment was one when the armor didn't quite cut it, so Zodd swooped in to help Guts save the day for everyone.
I know the armor isn't that great, but it has given Berserk more than it has removed from it. The only action scenes I didn't like featuring it it were the stupid SANIC spin dashes against the familiars (¿? think that was the name, possessed spear-wielding crocodile, fuck yeah), completely overkill and waste of energy, and the Sea God stomach, but that's because the Sea God was just dull and the armor's Batman form didn't really help either.

Schierke's getting worse and worse at pulling guts back with every battle with the exception of when they take the time and plan that soul transfusion thing. Hell, the last time she needed to pull him back (when he was butchering the sea slugs) she flat out couldn't until the moonchild stepped in and did half the job.

Don't even see the "arc" label, much less a saga.

A saga is a succesion of works on the same setting, such as The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings.
Berserk's ideal saga would be Berserk, My Little Sister Can't Be This Pyromaniac, Casca teaches Schierke how to be lewd, Griffith Gaiden with GriffithxSatan fujorgy in hell, Youth: Flame Dagger Chronicles, A R-18 History of Fantasia and Griefing Time with Guts & Hellhound.
