Actually it makes sense. Since they merged events from book 2 and 3 into book 1, there would be continuity issues if Latifah forgot about everything that happened past book 1; in the novels they have only had one reset, and she remembers everything from book 2 onwards so far.

It makes sense, but Latifa's memory loss (well, its source) is one of the big issues that is yet to be addressed in the LNs.

It's one of the central issues in the plot, and in the anime it got solved for no particular reason.
