I don't need to, but I don't flaunt it. I don't usually encounter situations where I have a pressing need to watch anime or read hentai in public.
If there are questions during normal conversation, though, an almost off-hand statement/reassurance that, in the country where I'm from, anime/chinese cartoons are regularly consumed, is generally enough. I'm not really lying, either. It also discourages a negative reaction since there's a risk of the other party sounding xenophobic. The topic is then shifted to something else.
>>118528225 >>118528736 This thread reminds my situation a bit, not that I have problems hiding (or even having to) hide my power level, but it easily shows through in the 700+ tabs I also keep open from session to session. I can't keep up with all the threads, doujins, mangas and so on and eventually I have to save the session "for later" (which I will actually probably never revisit again), begin a new one but soon enough I will be sitting on 500+ tabs of new (and lots of the same) content again.
I can't be the only one with that problem, so how do you guys manage? Any useful tools I'm not aware of? Are tabs and session saving add-ons dated at this point? This is like backlogs that only keep on growing.
>>118531819 I mainly keep the booru tabs confined to Chrome, but Chromium is maybe 25% weeb content and Firefox is at least 1500 tabs of booru porn. Needless to say my computer is locked any time I'm away. Though if you use Linux you can just switch to another desktop to easily hide that shit from anyone only familiar with Windows. There may be software giving that capability to Windows (don't know) but it comes natively on just about any Linux variant. I'd only be using Debian or whatnot if I didn't play games like Fallout on occasion. Wine and Playonlinux are hardly 100% reliable. >>118532117 Yes. You should watch Nisemono with your sister.
>>118531819 That happens sometimes, but on a smaller scale. I just do everything like that in a private browsing mode and never save anything if I'm not going download it directly. When I'm done with the fap, I go through and download anything I liked and close them one-by-one until there's none left. It creates a nice barrier between 'normal' browsing and h-browsing and works pretty well at keeping the amount of tabs down since doujins/boorus/pixiv take up a ton of tabs.
>>118532117 Definitely not. Almost any scene with hachikuji would immediately get you branded a total creep at the very least.
normally I just hit the pause button and see what they want if anything. If they didn't need anything I go back to watching anime. Only time this kind of backfired was when I was re-watching strike witches one time and paused it on an ultra close up cameltoe pantyshot.
>>118528033 Just don't want Moe/ecchi-centered shows around people. Everything else is pretty much a cartoon. >>118531819 I use bookmarks when I want to "write down" anime to download later or keep my place in manga. Though it won't be very efficient once it accumalates.
>>118535375 The shame is a big part of what makes it so good. Am I only supposed to read and watch age-appropriate things and never get that mix of shame and titillation that is like a boner in my soul?
What is your definition of "hiding your power level"? Either A) Not admitting you watch anime when being asked, refusing to show even small anime related nuances in public (straps/phone backgrounds) or B) Not autistically bringing up anime to everyone/telling people you have a 2D waifu
>be me >be a grad student >work as a TA for an online class >have regular meetings with professor >last week, showing professor how to download student submissions from the online course >click on the file >he sits down right next to me to see what I'm doing >firefox pops up 'What would you like to do? Open/Save?' >click 'Save' >immediately regret it >the location I last saved files to was my loli folder >since I'm saving a pdf file, it doesn't show all the thumbnails in the folder, but there are two subfolders, which both show images on their thumbnail of loli guro >my fucking face when >a split second seems like thirty >he has poor eyesight, doesn't say anything (doesn't seem to react), he's also a Mac user, so I'm not sure he knew what I was even doing >immediately click Esc >I play it cool >he continues to not say anything/not react >I figure out a different way to display the student essay and change the subject I'm still not sure if he saw anything, but last I heard from him, he had canceled our last meeting (supposedly he was busy from his other class). Kind of sucks because I'm working with him on the same class next semester too.
>>118528033 >How do you suppress your power level? Don't mention /a/ content unless someone else brings it up. Don't mention anything that a normalfag wouldn't watch. Don't have obvious wallpapers or lockscreens; Symbols, icons and landscapes are fine, anything that shows a full character is off limits. Definitely no /e/ /h/ or /d/.
Why would you ever let someone else use your PC, unless you're playing games or something. Ain't no motherfucker going through my files ever.
>>118536462 >Don't mention anything that a normalfag wouldn't watch. >Don't have obvious wallpapers or lockscreens; Symbols, icons and landscapes >living in this much fear Nothing is more pathetic then someone whos ashamed of his own interests. Pic realted its my cellphone wallpaper no fucks given
>>118537026 >I've always failed in being the kind of guy who shares their interests and passions with others, aside from music. Its not something to be broadcasting though, there is a difference between not hiding your power level and being "that weeb sperg who never shuts the fuck up about animu and glories Nippan". I've only meet one other person who wasn't a casual most people give me blank stares when they ask what I do in my free time or what TV shows I like too
You both are wrong, the trick is to not let what others might think stop you from doing the things you like, or feeling bad about them in private. That's your time. Not being ashamed of your hobbies is part of maturity. However, going around in PUBLIC, and in SOCIETY, as if other people's view of you doesn't matter is a whole different thing. It does matter what people think of you, and it's best to put on your "socially acceptable" face when in public. This is part of living in fucking society as a functioning human being. In the privacy of your own house on your own time or with close friends? Run around naked jacking it to lolis for all they care.
>>118528033 Have my screen facing away from the doorway.
Also never watch anime when my 12 year old step brother is here. He's the worst pleb imaginable, a living version of the type we make fun of on here. Calls anime "animes", watches dubs on Hulu and adult swim, doesn't even know what CrunchyRoll is let alone fansubs or torrenting.
He already talks my ear off about (flavor of the month indie game youtube superstars are playing), adding anime to the mix would drive me up the wall.
>>118537222 I totally get what you say. I'm not against others being as passionate about anime/Japan in the levels that you suggest, but I certainly haven't acted like that in the mean time, mainly because of my kind of personality.
Either way, I see why people who are used to hide their power-level get upset with the "attention whores" of the anime "community".
I've yet to befriend person IRL that has actually watched something that hasn't been localised or had actually read a title/VN/LN or played a video game from Japan released less than 5 years ago.
It's not like I have friends to begin with, so that's pretty much a fantasy of mine.
There's no point for me to try and hide my power level anymore.
>Years ago. >Dad using my laptop one day. >Somehow finds my waifu's image folder. >A lot of it is pornographic. >Parents ask me why I have all these drawings of this cartoon girl. >I end up having to explain waifus to them. >Mom asks me if I'm joking. >Dad tells me this is why I've never had a girlfriend. >My two sisters find out somehow and make fun of me for it and call me a loser. >Whole family thinks I'm some kind of freak. >My waifu is flat so they also think I'm a pedophile. >Family still gives me shit to this day. >Parents have pretty much given up on me.
I'm not looking forward to seeing them again for Christmas.
>>118538190 >spouting on what a waifu is to their own parents Why should you have lie to your family >not do a good job of hiding your folder Why should you have to hide legal things on your own computer
Abominable in the eyes of god. Anathema. Less of a being, more of a nothing. Disgusting as mucus. Spill to the ground and spread to below until you reach hell, and be eaten by the jet black darkness of your own wickedness.
>>118538345 One of my normalfag friends noticed my Yukino wallpaper on my phone once. I forgot to change it before I met up with him. Anyhow, he just laughed and asked me if that I was my girlfriend. Shit was pretty embarassing since my group of friends would shun me for minor things like that but he kept it to himself once.
My friend was also hitting on this girl at a party and she noticed his Little Busters wallpaper on his phone and gave him a really weird and disgusted look.
>>118538433 Did you not read what he posted? This is basically what you're telling him to do. Pic related.
>>118538720 >friends would shun me for minor things Get new friends. People who get offended for minor things probably aren't reliable to count on for major things. Ditch them now while you can. Those aren't friends, just acquaintances.
>>118538966 I feel like I'm the only one without a damn smartphone these days. My 10 year old brother, as well as my 45 year old mom has a smartphone, while I opted for a cheap flip phone that stays charged for weeks because I literally never use it.
>>118538867 I have and I'm glad I did. He even introduced me to more anons that watch anime as well. It's so difficult to actually find non autists who watch anime in real life and befriends with them.
>>118538941 I would but I grew up with them. They're good people and they helped me balance my shit together similar to what >>118537237 stated.
