Let's be real now. having other choices is one thing, but being most suitable is another. Within the show, Chisato was the girl the love story and drama was primarily crafted for. Yuuki had the most special feelings and connection for Chisato than any other girl, and deep down, he realized his love for (as foreshadowed in the flashback) her. Before the breakdown happened, the two of them had something special ( the teasing, playful skits, intimate moments, etc) already, and after they got over the drama, what they had became real, making their relationship come full circle.
