It's different in the manga and anime. If I remember right in the anime his death isn't confirmed, he just went so fast his body got messed up by the alter so now he lives it out either as an old man in a 20 year old body or in a wheelchair. In the manga he straight up dies I think

If I remember correctly, HOLY was experimenting on some of the alters that worked for them before they just started kidnapping alters to work on. I think Cougar was one of the ones they worked on and the experiments shortened his life. In the manga I think watermelon guy just kills him.

In the anime at least, he was one of the earliest experiments in enhancing alters. They didn't have the process smoothed out yet and it fucked him up in some way, shortening his lifespan as a result. His body basically gives out in the end, although him dying isn't actually confirmed, just heavily implied.

These two have it. Just like the midseason water girl biting it, the artificial Alter enhancements cause the body to burn out prematurely. It's something of a wonder that Cougar lasted as long as he did.

Though it appears that the "natural" Alter enhancements are also killing their users. Kazuma's hair is changing, his skin is marked up, eye forced shut when not in Stage 2 or 3, and in agony much of the time. Ryuhou is starting to show Alter damage marks on his skin during the end sequence, too.

They'll probably both be dead by 30 or so, if not sooner. Probably Kazuma first.

It's too bad their stage 3's were retarded.

They were glorious. My only complaint with Kazuma's was that it would have looked a little better with more leg padding. His final design was too top heavy. Ryuho's was decent, but honestly he should have held onto his independent alter style instead of getting armor so he could duke it out like Kazuma.
