Her armor reminds me of Japanese cavalry armor, the hip plates anyway, which is odd because the rest of her armor looks like it's based off earlier European armor. But it's missing the chain armor underneath it, or it's under the dress.

Samurai calvary armor always looks like it has hip plates attached to some sort of joint, while Saber's plates seem like they're either attached to her belt or just bolted directly onto her dress. Can't imagine either is very good for mobility.

It's likely just takeuchi wanting to have her in a dress while still looking armored, saber got popular and at that point the design couldn't change. Though he probably wouldn't want to change it anyway

I can't really think of a type of armor that the plates would be based off, it'd probably be better to ask in an arms&armor thread on /tg/

Yeah, considering Nero and Saber Lily, it's pretty clear he still doesn't give a fuck about what's practical. I'm surprised he got it right with Mordred. Must've been a fluke.

Nero's boots still bug me the most, though, they don't even work from a design standpoint since they're so out of place considering the rest of her getup

It's a bit better than saber's, maybe because she doesn't have a dress covering most of her armor so we can see it.

Take off the hip plates, remove the spikes, and add some armor to her forearm, though for all I know there could be chain armor there, and it would be more practical. I guess the shoulder armor is a bit big

Helmet would need a lot more changes though, it'd be better just to wear no helmet at that point just so you can have better vision, and her sword is a bit too much like a paddle to me.

mild interest in historical arms and armor has pretty much ruined fantasy equipment for me though. Now all I look for when I see armor is weak points or impractical parts.
