It can be more, but that doesn't mean all anime should be more. I already mentioned this in another thread today, but I don't want all anime to have a deep and complex narrative because that would be fucking boring. Sometimes you want something that you can just relax and have fun watching. Amaburi fills that role very nicely.

We need anime of all kinds, but saying a show isn't "good" just because it doesn't fill the specific niche you want it to is just fucking retarded. Amaburi does what it wants to do well, and it's fun and enjoyable to watch. It doesn't have to be more than that to be good because that's all its meant to do. It's not meant to be a deep and thought-provoking show, it's meant to be fun. And people who don't understand this are fucking retarded.

Now, in what way it entertains, that's obviously different from genre to genre, anime to anime. There are many different forms of entertainment, after all. But the core objective of anime is still to entertain in one way or another. If it fails to do this, only then can it be truly considered "bad".

No I get it but also disagree. Anime just like the majority of the other mediums can also be thought provoking or good while not being entertaining. I can think of a few things here and there. That being said, you're obviously right that the majority of all mainstream media wants to entertain and expecting something else from Amaburi is pure ignorance. Some people might not like the humor that is being used in this particular anime.

Again, there is a difference. Things do not have to be entertaining. Some people can watch these either way. I think the point is that we have a different opinion on what can be considered good. Something that isn't entertaining can also be considered good while something that is entertaining doesn't have to necessarily be good. At least for me. So I get why a lot of people don't like Amaburi. I'm obviously not saying that anime has to not be fun or entertaining. I just refuse to accept the generalization that everything entertaining is good.

Doing something right doesn't make anything good though. You can enjoy something just because it looks good. I don't know why but a lot people only liked Hyouka because it looked good although there was so much more to it. I don't want to get in to a Hyouka discussion but the point is that a certain aspect can be well done but that doesn't amek the show good. The word good in general is a bit misleading. Talking about individual aspect and how they affect each other is more important.

Amaburi does the comedy and fun aspect really well and that's why I like it but there isn't much more to it so you can see WHY someone would perhaps not like it. It's a matter of acceptance and whether or not you can actually watch something that is this simple. I can, others can't although I wouldn't want to know what they like.

I feel like people have far too high standards when it comes to what is good and what isn't. "Good" doesn't mean something is amazing or a masterpiece, it means it does what it sets out to do well and is competent all around, even if not for everyone. I know numbered grade scales have the same problem where anything below 8 or 9 is seen as shit despite 6 and 7 still being perfectly passable scores if you enjoy the genre in question.
