They are for 1 on 1. Swords lose when they are against more spears. Zweihanders has been used to break phalanxes though, but they weren't really fighting as much as they were just charging in swinging their swords and hoping for the best.

If you're talking about the long spear then yes that's absolutely true because they were intended to be used en mass. The short spear is different, on hand is held near the center of mass and the other further back to use the other hand as a fulcrum. It can be very fast and with much better leverage because of the longer level length compared to two hands on a sword.

A Zweihander can be used as a thrusting weapon as well, I wouldn't be to eager to bet on the short spear user. He has to get a lot closer to thrust. Missing a thrust would still be fatal even if you can pull back fast.

Either way, even the short spear has to have a longer reach than the Zweihander, otherwise you might as well be swinging around a dagger.

But to concede to your point, the attacker has a considerable advantage over the defender in this case. The attacker has their blade constantly moving and making feints so when they make a deflection they have momentary surprise on their side.
