>animator being paid less than college student
>>
It's basically a rule of thumb that the person who works the most, earns the least.

This is a universal fact of life.
>>
>>117162590
>animator makes less than a part timer
>>
Is that only voice acting works or also idol related shits? Because top tier VAs are basically idols.
>>
>>117162590
i don´t ge it, why a chief animator makes more than a series director? he´s is the mind behind everything, right?

How low is in-betweener's income? Or do they get payed so little you can't even make a chart out of it?
>>
Animators earn so little because they only do a few cuts per episode. The Chief Animation Director works on the entire series, and all cuts tend to go through them.

I think it's pretty much idol related. Doubt someone who can't even get a role every season makes as much as someone who voiced three or more main characters per season and releases music albums and whatnot on top of that.

In Japan, there is a ranking system for the seiyuu world. The ranks are from F~A and A being the highest. Of course each ranking has it’s own set pay. For example, A rank seiyuus are paid 45,000 yen (about $443) for one 30 minute anime episode. Above A Rank there is a rank called “No Rank”. No Rank is title where seiyuus can set their own price.

For example, voice actress, Kaneda Tomoko revealed that she gets paid approximately 30,000 yen (about $295) for one anime episode. You would think that Kaneda would at least be an A Rank because she has been in the seiyuu business for 14 years but she isn’t. This tells us that the seiyuu business isn’t easy.

Of course not all seiyuus can get paid like Kaneda Tomoko right off the bat. New seiyuus start off in a rank called “Junior Rank” and will be given this title for 3 years. For one 30 minute anime they will be paid 15,000 yen (about $147) . After their 3 years as Junior Rank they will join the ranking system. Of course to be higher in the ranks, it depends on experience and how popular you are. Recently, a lot of seiyuus have been higher in the ranks because of their popularity. Do they get paid more if they are voicing the main character? The answer to that is no. Whatever their rank is that is how much they will be paid.
>>
600k dollars per year for being a slut on TV, without even showing your face or having to do anything really.

What a great job.
>>
>>117162734
Not sure what kind of part timer they are talking about here. It's common in Japan for people to take two part time jobs, work all day and earn more than with a single job (but without the single job benefits like a career path, company benefits, etc). They are called "freeter".

It's yearly income. An animation director can be employed all year on more shows than one. They often do magazine illustrations. They might include character design fees here too. Directors get payed more but can only earn that much if they're hacks (in the real sense, not /a/'s definition of person I dislike) who do multiple shows per year.

>>
>>117163843
Nana Mizuki. She's the seiyuu with highest income in the indusry.

>>117163767
This is the eroge industry system

Popular seiyuu: 130 yen per word
Average seiyuu: 100 yen per word (standard price in the industry)
Leave it to them to decide: 90 yen per word (when you ask them for cheap usable people)

Overworked seiyuu: +30 yen
Negotiating with seiyuu that won’t do rape: +20~50 yen
Take everything from the same agency: -10~20 yen

Even when a seiyuu has 5000 words, the price per word will not go down in most cases.

Also if it’s not at least 100 words, they might not accept the job due to stuff like transportation fees and such. So in cases where it’s in the vicinity of 100 words, the company will ask them if it’s possible to do it for something like 20,000 yen instead of going on a per word basis.

– Depending on the agency, there are also seiyuu that will take a % of the original costs as secondary use license royalties if the company decides to release a downloadable version, a budget version, PG version, or console ports etc
– When a console port or an anime is made, these costs are usually paid by the company in charge of the port, if it’s done in-house then royalties have to be paid together with the additional voices
# Ero anime only pays approximately 10,000 yen per episode and takes a day, so when an eroge becomes an ero anime, there are a lot of seiyuu that will refuse to do voices for the ero anime, which is why the ero anime versions usually have a different voice cast
– Seiyuu voice recording costs has apparently increased dramatically in recent years, agencies did not charge on a per word basis or ask for secondary use license royalties 5 years ago. Comments from some say it is now about 150% to 300% as compared to before.
>>
>>117164103
Anon, you do realize that what you're suggesting is not a genuinely objective criterion, right? How people view a given actor's capability is heavily dependent on personal, subjective preferences.

I don't know why you're having such a hard time with this. Maybe you should try separating yourself from Japanese voice actors and just think about normal actors, and how you'd be able to distinguish a good one from a bad one in that case.

There are many things to go on, but if I have to explain them to you, then you're probably just blind to the quality of a performance. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.

>I don't know why you're having such a hard time with this. Maybe you should try separating yourself from Japanese voice actors and just think about normal actors, and how you'd be able to distinguish a good one from a bad one in that case.
My point was how do you accurately determine an actor's capability. Yes, I can tell if an actor is bad or good. What I want to know is how do you determine if an actor is slightly good, slightly bad, or average? Or do you think it's fair lumping everyone into just good or bad actors?

calculations:

average anime sell 2,000 copies
BD box = $200 each
sales from anime box set= $400,000
sell to broadcast in other countries = $100,000
pay for TV broadcasting in Japan = $200,000
after deducting TV broadcasting fee, there's $300,000 remaining

$300,000 is divided among everyone else (director, music effects, animators, voice actors) and pay for utilities (water, electricity) and rental and various stuffs (pen, paper, etc). If there are 25 animators and 5 voice actors, then each person get $10,000.

Some say $200 per complete BD set is expensive, they suggest that $20 is a reasonable price the for complete anime BD box set.

If anime box are sell at $20, then the sales is $40,000 for 2,000 copies. This money isn't enough for broadcasting on TV which easily exceed $200,000.

Reducing price from $200 to $20 is suicide. If people won't pay for online anime at $2 per episode, they also will not pay for $20 anime box.

Not a surprise. That's why salaryman is preferable option.

I remembered i read an old article somewhere where they compare hourly wages to normal salaryman, the high turnover of animators and how they keep themselves afloat.

It's a sad industry despite many people enjoy their work. And it's how the world work anyway. If you slap your name on an anime, some loyal fans will buy it despite it's a mediocre. For e.g the legendary Rie Tanaka.

Although I suppose their problems are worse due to screwy gender ratios due to old 1-child, boy>girl policies that created ridiculous value for women due to lack of supply.

Oh I forgot they did that.

That'd be a lot healthier

Why are anons going to urologist?

You can't all be
1) 50+ with prostate cancer
2) Infertile
3) have congenital malformation

That's gay anon.

KFC grilled - really that healthy?

I only went once because of a kidney stone.

It's a fast food place. I don't think anything there is healthy. It's less unhealthy though I guess.

What they do isn't very hard or anything they just trace the images in for the animation.

How do these rank?
Sawashiro Miyuki
Inoue Marina
Shizuka Itou
Hanazawa Kana

At what exact time will Episode 7 be available? Any way to live watch a Japanese stream?
>>
>>117162655
Thats misconception, hardwork is in fact the only way to get to the top. Its just that it needs to be combined with cunning and smarts that allow you to use others.
>>
There's no way top Seiyuu's are making 600k a year. Top idol's don't even make that much. The leader of Momoiro Clover Z (easily the most profitable idol group) only makes 500k a year. Takahashi Minami from AKB only makes 500k a year also. Leader of Morning Musume is less than that also, aswell as people like Ami Kikuchi who is on variety shows constantly.

What? Internal Medicine is great, and or residency is not bad at all. Come join us. We're not assholes. You can be like me and blog about your life on your phone in anime image boards while on night float waiting to admit patients!

what the flying fuck
>>
>>117162590
That PA Works Production Assistant (?) that killed themselves was still earning twice as much as an animator.
>>
>>117171912
Good luck Jake the Internist! You can do it!

I usually just take the first admit of the afternoon and make myself obscure to sleep. But then med students get less admits then residents.

I am going to be a total lazy ass and go for Rad Onc.

You can't manipulate people if you're a bum, and if somethings handed off to you and no one wants to listen to you your company will fall apart. Stop being an edgy butthurt wage slave or neet thats convinced work is literally hitler. Your existential crisis isn't special.

How is Japan liking Shirobako?
>>
American animators get paid a whole lot more for less work.

What a surprise they're also less talented. They work long hours but they wouldn't have to if they didn't produce so little.

She should learn English and come to San Francisco. As a big boobed pretty Japanese anime maker, I'm pretty sure she can easily find an age appropriate (i.e. ~35 year old) single software engineer making $150k+ at Facebook or Google.

You clearly weren't lazy studying for Step 1! (Unless you're the Canadian. I don't know how things work up in our frosty hat to the north. )

ANYWAYS. Shirobako is great, and seeing their tiny apartments always makes me fell bad for them.

>>
>>117172367
There are in-house animators who are technically employees of the studio (though not salaried employees), and freelancer who operate based on something of a contract basis. It's usually more likely that extremely talented in-house animators get the promotions than a freelancer getting hired for those positions due to Japanese business culture
>>
>>117172460
That seems pretty vague.

Match is in late Jan early Feb for interview. Canadians have a bit easier time getting into Rad Onc. Lazy mostly in the sense that I want my on call days to be at home, with 1 call per month. More of a consideration for when I am old and grey, and could not go without sleep for a day or two.

>Kabu no Isaki

>>
>>117172778
There are a ton of them, they can be replaced.
>>
>>117172778
Supposedly they are still paid the same as in times when animation was simpler and animators more plentiful.
>>
>>117172694
The money's in commissions, from what I hear. You'll have a lot of competition for anything mass-market, but you can charge a good price for custom works. Whether you want to do that though...
>>
>>117172778
That's the irony, they pay less and less for animators, outsource their works for Korean studios, replace them with CGI and then wonder why nobody wants to become an animator anymore.
>>
>>117172997
Or bitch about Japanese youth's "work ethic" like old Ghibli face.
>>
>>117168250
It hard for both ways. Men and women. In the end of the day, women in Japan have more difficulties than men in certain things.

And there's also plenty of deadbeat fathers just as single fathers struggling.

The chief animator is usually an extremely talented individual (tensai etc) that's well known in the industry and probably commands high freelance prices for his work.
>>

>>
>college student
>17200
Do people get paid to go to college or something?
>>
>>117171713
Its true. Now, hard work does not guarantee success, but success requires hardwork as one of it's components.
>>
>>117165233
It's not, lol.

"They don't earn through basics, nor being paid monthly. They are paid based on how much they draw, and a normal TV in-between frame is priced at 135yen to 150yen per frame, while for movie, possibly on the range of 200yen to 300yen per frame.

Average new graduates can draw as much as 100 per month (~$140/month), while, if ideal, they have to draw at least 500 pieces per month (~$700/month) in order to break even."

There's a physical limit to how much you can output in a day.
>>
>>117175326
I was surprised too, but that's for the most popular ones (sawashiro, hanakana, miyano, etc). Unfortunately there isn't a less popular seiyuu in Shirobako for comparison.
>>
>>117167483
I get by on about 30k a year. Getting comfy is the hard part, but once you are there life ain't half bad.
