The story is really mediocre but interactions between you and your servant are really godlike. We need more games like this.

The main difference between F/E and F/E CCC is that CCC got a shitload of text and plot is really good. Nasu said that it's his last fate game so it's no wonder that it's better than the prequel.

While I'm not that extreme, I have to agree. Aside the recycled mechanics of the battle system, I think the time Nasu used to "increase" the script actually backfired, as the amount of padding increased to incredible levels. While I don't mind verbose games, I was literally hoping for the characters to stop talking about bullshit instead of actually discussing the plot in certain chapters.

At the risk of sounding like an arrogant douche, I don't think you 'get' the Fate franchise. Dicking around and talking about inconsequential things while the Fate of the world hangs in the balance and people die in droves is at the heart of the series.

Are people just programmed with Hollywood pacing these days? Why can't anyone enjoy digging into long asides and non-sequitors anymore? Especially since Nasu is the king of making every single meaningless detail incredibly relevant and important to SOMETHING, whether it's world, character or plot. Even if you spend ten minutes talking about the most banal, normal shit, every one of those minutes you are learning a fucking ton about someone or something.

You're not supposed to play through the game in 8 hours. Take your time and you won't notice the slow pacing as much.

Problem is, EXTRA had far less of those issues, despite being verbose (see Pieceman's final monologue for example). Here, it just amounts to nothing. There are entire sections (see Rani's chapter, or Passion Lip's chapter) where you're ordered to go...somewhere and nothing happens.
Better, you have to go back and forth while everything could have been done in a couple less passages. That's padding, nothing else.
I'm fine with Nasu's overly bizarre style but in this case he went too overboard.

There are some funny moments (Gilgamesh's CAST OFF event is actually fun), creepy ones or dramatic ones. But they're submerged in sea of blandness.And some interesting ideas like the Matrix are severely reduced in favor of the Punish/SG mechanic which is really ridicolous, and not in a good sense.

Nasu's writing skills are overrated because of certain scenes in a sea of blandness.
Fate/Zero, Fate/Extra and Kara no Kyoukai (can't say anything about Tsukihime since I've never played/read it) are good because either Nasu had no involvement with it or the adaptations extracted the good scenes and threw the useless scenes into the garbage, where they belong to.
