No, you are absolutely supposed to mix it. Rice fresh out of the steamer is extremely hot. Throw an egg and some soy sauce and just mix it up and eat it. Of course, I wouldn't do it myself, the eggs get are probably shit. But with high quality fresh eggs I imagine the danger is minimal.

Well, given that I am apparently more at risk of getting salmonella poisoning from eating peanut butter, peppers, lettuce, or spinach than I am from eggs, that does make me wonder about our priorities on food safety.

I do realize that this may be in part due to eggs regularly being cooked/scrutinized more thoroughly than other foods that can be contaminated with things that cause food-born illness, due to a pre-existing awareness/fear. People are certainly more scared of uncooked eggs than they are of salads.

I had agedashi tofu when I went out to eat last night and I had no idea how to eat it. Going out tofu with chopsticks just makes it disintegrate into tiny chunks. Am I meant to eat the entire thing in one go with the spoon/ladel thing?

When I'm over there I sometimes go to all you can eat places with groups and one of the rules is that you have to pay extra for the things you leave on the table. It's a fucking challenge when everyone has a strategy to make the most out of the 90 minutes and keeps ordering more and more and before you know it you're all full and have to make it work.
