But yeah, it doesn't happen often on /a/, which likes the whole "everything that isn't ecchi moe is edgy pretentious shit" meme. There are people who will say monogatari literally contains no fanservice because it's all symbolism. It's impressive it managed to capture both markets.

The few parts that were actually animated looked pretty good.
The only problem were the parts between the fanservice and the parts where actually something happened: I. e. most of the dialogue.

The harem is really well developed. All the characters just happen to be in love with him and were primarily designed to be interesting. As sad as it is most harems just shove in a bunch of archetypes with zero personality. So Monogatari comes around and it has characters like Mayoi, Shinobu, Kanbaru, and Kaiki. He also gives each harem member a lot of development and screentime. Even Tsukihi has a lot of scenes.
