Guess I managed to miss the ending to Nickelodeon a few days ago; just finished reading it.
I can feel physical pain in my chest right now, /a/. Hold me.
I saw it in the archives. I was honestly hoping for a more upbeat or touching finale, but I wonder if maybe it's not supposed to be an allegory for the series' cancellation. I got the feeling that Dowman was heartbroken to see it come to an end.
Look at it this way - it might have been axed, but Dowman was able to wrap it up decently with a nice little allegory about storytellers, and the nature of stories. I liked it. Like a nice old man reading bed time stories to you, the reader, but he suddenly has to leave and promises he'll return some day to tell you more stories. A little depressing, though, with the NTR, but Dowman's stories have always had the undercurrent of love being a dark and melancholy thing.
Oh I agree. It's a really clever message wrapped up in characteristic Dowman fashion, I was just expecting something more upbeat. I do love the way he managed to convey that sense of heartbreak without ever resorting to tears or exaggeration. There's no crying or death or excessive negativity, just a mild, bitter sense of loss. Just enough to bring you down.
I hate to gush like this, but I guess that in and of itself is pretty beautiful.
A likely scenario, given the volatile state of an episodic manga in a low-selling alternative magazine. A shame, too, he was starting to weave the stories together more often. He seemed pretty somber when he announced that Nick was getting the hatchet.
From the previous thread, might be missing a couple of small things.
Looking at this picture actually makes me feel like a Dowman anime would be pretty fuckin viable. Like if you look at his artstyle it wouldn't take much to adjust it slightly to be easier for animation. Most of his shit is pretty angular.
A Dowman anime would be dope as fuck too.
Why are you guys so sure he got axed?
What if he just ran out of ideas or simply wanted to work on other shit?
I just realized that these kids got killed in God Legacy.
>you will never live in a Pokemon world with a cyclops witch and other anthropomorphic Oddmen with a shota angel that holds up the sky and whatever other crazy bullshit there is
This guy is one of the most overrated indie authors out there. draws with his ass and stories are made in a labirynthine way just because he can't pull a fucking plot togheter. and he's also terribly hipster and a 420BLOWIT faggot. I thought he was good, reading some things. guess I was wrong
This guy isn't the owner of Voynich, right?
I've been rereading The End of Hydrogen Bomb War. So far it only seems to be a lot of potential for crossovers, but I can't actually recognize anyone.
The only thing I remember is that Inuta should be the same furry from Oddman.
IMO they did a pretty good job on the first season of Zetsubou Sensei. It kind of has the same vibe that Dowman's work has, so that's why I think they would do a good job.
I'm not the guy you responded to, though.
Dang, I really liked this manga.
Well, at least I'll contribute to the connections.
There's a panel from chapter 10 (vigilante) showing the girl sits in the same class as the one handed girl, and there's a page from the inside cover of volume 1 showing the the one handed girl works in the cafe that the twins from chapter 5 (heels and sneakers) visit.
>There's a panel from chapter 10 (vigilante) showing the girl sits in the same class as the one handed girl
Already found that one.
>and there's a page from the inside cover of volume 1 showing the the one handed girl works in the cafe that the twins from chapter 5 (heels and sneakers) visit.
Nice eye. Forgot to check the extra pages.
Jut checked my version (I'm bad at moon but I thought the dude could use some support).
It's fixed in mine, he changed it for newer releases.
Sorry for bad camera quality, hopefully you can see it.
So...Did they ever find Narumiya's body parts?
What about her senpai's boobs, did She ever admit to hiding them?
I know It has 3 volumes but it just doesn't feel like enough, you know?
Have I just been lurking at odd hours? Because it seems like lately I've been seeing a DS topic every night whereas before it seemed like it was once in a blue moon.
I'm extremely pleased, just a little bit upset that I must have missed all the fun before now.
Nickelodeon ended earlier this week and a new Voynich chapter dropped yesterday. It's been a while since we've seen an update for either, so that's probably why. But it's nice, I agree.
>I didn't think anyone here even gave a shit about Dowman since I never seen him get mention once
I bet you think no one here watched old well-know anime too since it's not discussed, retard.
Did you forget to post the pic?
Also, I think Douman has a thing for dismembering girls. It happens far too much to be a coincidence.
In case the JPEG ends up being unreadable, here's the png. Anything not on here is probably a oneshot. Haven't crossed it with Voynich or Sexual Instinct yet.
I fucking love Dowman Sayman
and the chapter with the alcoholic saliva gave me a weird new fetish that I can't satisfy
On a scale of 1 to 10 how retarded am I for only just now noticing the dick on the cover?
Easy to miss.
On that note, I want to buy those books to get HQ scans of the covers. The last two Hydrogen volumes also got reprinted into one bunko with a new cover, which might have some extra stuff in it.
Is there any chance we'll see more of Suicide Parabellum now that Nickelodeon is over? I seem to remember elemhunter or tsuuyaku mentioning they wanted to get their hands on more chapters of that.
Not according to Elemhunter on the batoto page.
>This is a triannual series, so once it's caught up (4 chapters right now, I think), there will be a few months in between chapters if it's still ongoing.
I really hope we'll see a new serialization from Dowman in the near future. Even if it's just a collection of short stories like Nickelodeon, it's nice to have more of his work on a consistent basis. Also adult content or not, I still prefer his non-h work to his h doujinshi.
I like Voynich. I don't think he can complete the manga by the end of the third volume even though he said he was. However, I do think he can complete it by the end of a fourth volume if he decides to do it. The ending is probably going to be as open as the endings to his other shit though.
That's a lot of work and I have no experience in making stuff look nice.
Some Anon wanted to clean it up during the weekend, but I think he didn't.
Well, if I can have some objections:
The Volume 1 omake should connect to chapter 9, because that's where she cuts her hair.
I'd put mentions of the young sister having sex in chapter 16, so it's much clearer what you're referrencing. You could also show the nameplate from chapter 32.
You could also list the unlinked chapters, maybe someone will find connections to them.
And I think "Downmanverse" sounds cooler than written separatedly.
But you did good Anon. You did really good.
Also, now that I'm thinking of it. It's highly unlikely, but maybe some connections were lost in translation?
If I were rich, I would give him enough money to concentrate on whatever he wants to draw for several years.
Shunji Iwai anime Hana and Alice manga adaptation. Not a bad move. But I want to read his original works. He is such a talented artist. I think he needs an equally talented editor or producer who can give him some free hand.
I've been thinking about this too; you can identify at a glance what makes Dowman's art different, but identifying what exactly makes it so pleasant to look at is a whole different ball game. Unfortunately I don't think I'm well versed enough in art and character design to figure it out, but I can definitely say that eye shape, facial variety and expression, and line thickness play a big role.
Para iso strikes me as being significantly more difficult to translate than Dowman's other work due to a heavier focus on jokes and wordplay aimed at a native audience. Almost like SZS really. Is that accurate or does it only apply to early chapters?
>No DS' manga will ever get an anime
Surely he has a unique style. To my eyes his characters look "western" because of blockish lines. Especially the hands. They look like almost this cartoonish sometimes. But the hairs and expressions are definitely those of manga. It's really a unique chemistry.
About his twitter
He uses twitpic for a lot of older images, and twitpic is shutting down on the 25th so it would be nice to archive anything you can
or tell him about twitpic's shutdown if someone here speaks moon
I love his blatant parodies. No hiding and not annoying at all. I want a "Douman Parody Chart" next.
I want to buy the chapters, but they would cost me $15 a chapter (and it seems like a tank might come out in a year or so), which is a pretty big money sink when you add up the existing chapters that could be going towards buying his old doujinshi or something. I'm not opposed to taking donations for this particular series, though.
That's the main reason why thetsuuyaku doesn't want to work on it, because he'd have to basically rewrite Dowman's script. Some other anon made an attempt to scanlate the series, but seeing as how that chapter was forever ago I'd wager that they gave up.
Some shitty scans for one of the Mephisto volumes popped up, so here's a random Suicide Parabellum chapter.
That's pretty expensive. How many pages do most of those chapters run? I'd imagine they average a lot more than most of his monthly work, but then again we're lucky to see more than 10 pages in those.
I don't have a lot of disposable income but I'm rapidly beginning to consider that more Dowman would be worth the investment.
You are a good, good person, anon.
You're in for a treat. What I wouldn't give to be you again.
What's he have going currently? Nickelodeon's over and Voynich is bimonthly (I think), but he still does Oddman 11 monthly right? Add Para Iso on top of that and Suicide Parabellum 3 times a year and I feel like I'm back in math class.
I meant to say "used to have around 50 pages a month."
Oddman 11 (48 pages or so per year assuming 8 pages bimonthly), Suicide Parabellum (70 pages or so per year), Voynich (page count per chapter has increased, so let's just go with 6 * 9 as a middle-ground and make it 54 pages), and Ayame x Amane (around 12 pages per year) are his ongoing series right now. Paraiso ended a few months ago.
What the fuck is happening
Also if pic related was translated, I don't see why Paraiso can't be. The translator could just put translation notes; it's a bit clunky but I'm sure it's funny with or without puns.
For the same reason Kumeta's new series was never picked up and why only one scanlation group has ever been crazy enough to take on SZS. Even if it's technically doable, it's very difficult.
Even Oddman 11's general plot outline is basically Scott Pilgrim but gayer.
And one of the stories in Sexual Instinct was a parody of en episode of Twilight Zone. Since the short ended with the gay sniper dieing in the exploding plane, it's weird that he decided to use the character in Voynich.
That episode is pretty popular, I've seen quite a few mangaka parody it. My favorites parodies are by Dowman and Sugimura Shinichi.
I downloaded the first volume of Nickelodeon forever ago and loved it, but sort of fell behind reading anything else by this author.
Where to even begin, there's a million series listed here http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=6864, I only have the first volume of Voynich Hotel and Nickelodeon Red.
I'm just pulling everything on thetsuuyaku's blog to start with.
I know Sayman was on the list of authors from the whole fakku fiasco, I suppose I should check sadpanda as well. Does anyone know if any of his content was purged?
>Ending of Nickelodeon
>Nick is dying due to shit shows like Sanjay and Craig and Breadwinners, zombie Spongebob and Fairly Oddparents airing most of the day, and too many live-action shows
Ninja Turtles 2K12 is great though. But I wish they would tone down the 80's show pandering
Well at least we got a new Voynich Hotel chapter lately.
As good as dead by now. I wish someone took Azazel off their hands, we didn't even scratched non-animated parts yet.
At least WhyNot is working on last OVA.
Voynich Hotel seems to be heading towards an ending too though, and thats frightening me.
I wouldn't count on it, Suimasen announced that they're unofficially closed because they have like two active staff members who are busy with life. I wish they would ask on /a/ or something.
Not that we need any more Nick/Oddman evidence, but here's an oni girl.
As fans of his work, we can only pray for the best.
