I don't get it, /a/.
This anime followed every single high school romance-harem trope that exists and should have been the generic as fuck. Combine that with the fact that it has an extraordinary amount of filler even for the genre, and you get a series that on paper, should be everything I hate.
Then why did I end up really enjoying Nisekoi? Did anybody else have a similar experience with the show?
>Pic related: Best episode.
>>115291108
You just have shit taste and should kill yourself
>>115291175
But as I said, I should have hated it. It goes against all my usual tastes. But I didn't.
Like, it's not brilliant, but I certainly enjoyed it more than most other series in the highschool genre.
>>115291108
You have good taste in episodes at least, OP.
Best girl was introduced in that one.
>>115291259
I'm afraid it's terminal.
>>115291305
Such a pity she got so little screen time afterwards.
>>115291352
Eh, I was bound to attain bad taste at some stage. You can't watch top quality shows forever.
>>115291108
>Did anybody else have a similar experience with the show?
At first, yes. I don't know why I enjoyed it so much. But then you read the manga for months.
>>115291456
>>115291456
I've heard the manga is ridiculously slow paced and does that thing the anime occasionally did where it repeats the same scenes, but with different visuals. Any truth to that?
The anime has amazing direction and good visuals. As for the manga, it also has very good visuals and it panders softly to the taste of different people even if nothing happens.
Nisekoi is the perfect potato chips of harem.

>Nisekoi is the perfect potato chips of harem.
That's pretty damn accurate.
I watched all 20 episodes over a period of 5 days when I was very busy at work. I was great to come home and watch something that wasn't mentally taxing and occasionally gives a laugh or two. Also, the characters are fun which makes it especially attractive to me.
>>115291699
Christ almighty....
Thing is, I actually want to read more of that now and I have no idea why. More of best girl might be a factor though.
>>115291925
Just use the spreadsheet and read Tsugumi's chapters (54-55 and 124-125 are a must).
>>115291108
I find the first 60 or so chapters of the manga(the whole anime run, basically) very entertaining, despite how cliched and shitty the writing is. And I followed it since day 1. Now it's dragging on and on, and there's only good arc or 2
In the last 4 days I've read 130 chapters of the manga and saved every page with my waifu
>>115291456
You don't really know how true this image is until you do.
>>115292027
Thanks!
I'm actually still looking at the spreadsheet. It's very very detailed.
>>115292241
Quality of the series aside, Nisekoi has lots of waifu-tier girls.
>>115291108
It nails what it sets out to do but I could not appreciate it on a weekly basis while it was airing. This seems more like a something that should at least be viewed once a day.
That's because people on /a/ are fucking retarded when it comes to criticizing. The reason these tropes exist is because they work. However there are good tropes and there are bad tropes.Or tropes you like and tropes you dislike, since taste is subjective. While I assume that Nisekoi has some tropes you dislike as wellEh nandatte?it will have enough redeeming qualities, which are in this case tropes you didn't mind or even liked, but never gave much thought, because usually shows that utilize these tropes are using horrible examples as well and so they're horrible overall.
>>115291108
I love nisekoi. There I said it
>>115292768
It's definitely something you need to watch over a short period of time, otherwise you'll just become bored with it.
>>115291108
>This anime followed every single high school romance-harem trope that exists and should have been the generic as fuck
But it was generic as fuck
>>115292770
I don't think there is necessarily such a dichotomy of good and bad tropes. I think it's got more to do with how well the tropes are executed and whether the show adds something special to the mix. By achieving these two criteria I think Nisekoi succeeds in being more than the sum of its parts.
>see this thread
>inspired by the positive reception
>say "fuck it, I'll pre-order the BD"
>5 episodes
Well I tried.
>>115293369
On the surface, yes. But the reason it was enjoyed by people was due to the execution of its generic components: >>115293436
>>115293455
>Chitoge looking fine on that box-art
It doesn't take much for you to be convinced to buy something, eh?
>>115293436

>>115291108

>>115291108
>Then why did I end up really enjoying Nisekoi?
That's Shaft's magic.
I hated the manga... but somehow the anime was very enjoyable.
>>115293603
The anime doesn't really have filler, true. But it sure stretches the material at times.
>>115291305
>>115291386
>>115291925
>>115292241

>>115291108
>Then why did I end up really enjoying Nisekoi?
Shaft.
>Did anybody else have a similar experience with the show?
If under "similar experience" my own "I actually finished this shit show" counts too, then yes. Yes, I did.

>>115293720
I do like how Shaft animated the art style of the manga. They kept a lot of the crazy faces and panels intact for one thing, which I think added to the show's appeal.
>>115293699
Are Tsugumifags the majority or just the most vocal?
>>115293756
>>115293784
now now, they are both wonderful girls
>>115293720
>In other news, Mom is the best girl.
All the adults in Nisekoi were crazy to some degree.
Like that pervy teacher...
>>115293829
>>115293829
I think we're just the most vocal because Tsugumi gets so little screentime in the anime.
>>115291699
So, should we expect the next one of these somewhere around chapter 152? Or if not then, chapter 169.
>>115293699
>>115293853
But what about Onodera?
>>115291108
Because you literally have shit taste.
Nisekoi was an abomination in every regard, it's kinda fascinating how Shaft managed to press the already horrible source material into an even worse anime adaption.
Why don't they just try the fucking keys?
It's my AOTY.
>>115292027
>Not including 83-85.
That was the best part.
>>115294042
Because then what would they do with the plot?
Like, you can't just conveniently break the lock AGAIN.
>>115293829
I can't shake the feeling that the people who like Tsugumi are the same people who like Traps.
That's the way /a/ seems to treat her in my eyes anyway.
Chitoge>Marika>Haru>Yui>Tsugumi>Ruri>Shit>Kosaki
>>115293878
Meh, fuck them, Mom was the only good character in the whole series.
>>115293822
What did you expect from Shaft? For them to suddenly stop using their trademark methods?
Unless, of course, you are like everybody else, that is to say, from all Shaft series you've seen only Madoka and/or *monogatari. Then I guess you wouldn't've been expecting this.
>>115294176
>Mom was the only good character in the whole series.
She had about 2 minutes of screentime and fitted a rather generic anime mother trope.
>>115291108
Because its a shitty version of to love ru
Chitoge = Lala because they make weird shit and forced relationship
Onodera = Haruna can't admit feelings
Tomboy = Bad version of Yui
Nisekoi is the greatest harem series of all time.
>>115294256
>She had about 2 minutes of screentime
Thus they didn't have time to ruin her for me.
>and fitted a rather generic anime mother trope.
I actually enjoy that rather generic anime mother trope; everything else is just my wishful thinking filling in the empty space in characterization with what I myself like.
>>115294333

Akuyuki Shinbo made it
Haru > Tsugumi > Mamadera > Onodera > Indian Chitoge > Chitoge's mom > Tsugumi > Ruri > Kansai lesbian > Marika > NTR teacher > Random kouhai that likes Shuu > Chitogue > Yui > Marika's bodyguard > Chink loli assassin > Glasses news club girl

>Haru

>>115293829
In the 2 character polls, Tsugumi's numbers stayed exactly the same.
Basically everyone who ever loved Tsugumi still loves her, and no new fans appeared after the first year because she hasn't had many chapters. And that still makes her #4 in the polls after Marika, Chitoge, and Onodera. Thanks Y-san!
>>115293948
We're the most vocal because when you have embraced your role as the herald of a goddess, you have a moral imperative to shout it out loud.

>>115293822
Was there any head tilts this time?
>>115294941
Yes - but oddly not as many as you would have expected.
>>115294941
yeah, quite a few
Yui appeared (again) in the new ED. Is Shaft just teasing us or the new season is going to be 2 cour again (and 24 episodes this time instead of 20)?
>>115291108
Because the girls are pretty, like above average even by anime standards.
I hate it but at the same time I'm going to watch S2 and probably like it while still hating it.
>>115295032
It would be smart to fit Yui in, maybe delegate some more comedy chapters to OVA format like they're already doing right now.
>>115295032
>>115295102
Oh yes, please Shaft, skip all the filler
>>115295032
I really do love the look of that new ED. I thought OP2 and the last ED of the series were rather poor.
Is the OST for this, and Mekaku for that matter, never being released? I really want them both.
>>115295147
it's really weird but cool at the same time
http://a.pomf.se/rtjdjl.webm
>>115295145
The 'filler' is still part of the soul of Nisekoi, but certain comedy chapters such as the Tsugumi gadget chapters would feel weird in the anime since they're a recurring skit.
>>115295214
For mekaku, the songs have been released already, well at least 7/12 of them.
>>115295264
I said OST, not insert songs.

>i ended up liking Chitoge and Tsumugi more
>Haru is the better Onodera than her boring sister
This Kosaki circlejerk is a farce
>>115295307
Yeah I love the chapters too, it's just that S1 didn't really set itself up as a sketch comedy, and the gadget chapters are exactly that. It suits the manga well but not the anime.
>>115295292
ok my bad
>>115295335
Kosaki has been Nippon's darling since the beginning, but it's not new for Nippon to have shit taste.
>>115295217
Parts of it remind me of the Witch scenes from Madoka.
But yeah, heavy Chitoge-Onodera focus clearly on display.
>>115295335
There has been maybe one person in this entire thread saying anything remotely positive about Onodera.
Is she really disliked that much? I found her bland but very inoffensive.
>>115295481
To me, she's just boring especially compared to her sister, Haru.
OVA where?
>>115295032
Chitoge has her heart where it is, but protected by her ribcage symbolizing her love protects by a hard exterior.
Onodera has her heart in her eye meaning she is always looking at her love and paying it attention.
Tsugumi has her heart where it should be, but it is green, full of envy. She knows who she loves, but she knows it is not hers even despite how large her love is.
Marika's has her heart in her palm. Always ready to grab it. However she has not grabbed it. The heart is also bleeding. It is crying. Is she sad at what she does not will herself to ultimately grasp?
>>115295051
It's okay anon. Manga readers do the same every week.
>>115295572
Forgot Haru.
Haru has her heart hidden behind her back. Much like a child hiding something they are guilty of. She feels guilty about her love since it conflicts with her sister's.
>>115295572
Damn son - I never notice stuff like that.
>>115291108
Personally I think it's because that's the joke. It's intentionally doing it to fuck with the audience and intentionally finds ways to cock block any sort of resolution because the author couldn't make the series he wanted to make and this is his revenge.
That's Nisekoi in a nutshell. Understanding it helps you to enjoy it. Also, Shaft tilt bullshit works perfect with this series, it's 100% their thing.
>>115295725
>because the author couldn't make the series he wanted to make
What's the story behind that?
>>115291108
Shaft's adaption magnifies the virtues (the cute girls, the humor) and minimizes the vices (the fact that it goes on and on and on with zero progress, mainly). The anime stops at just the right point.
>>115295764
author wanted romance.

Kosaki is inoffensive to the degree that it becomes offensive. Also, her lack of progress is infuriating.

>Maybe [...]
Nope.
How much people remember is one at hand.
This is of no relevance, after all: this is fiction.
And as fiction, it works under the laws of a theme, instead of following any semblance of realism.
Heck, the first opening spelled it out for you, and you didn't get it? Pay attention to Shaft's openings, I am no longer dismissing anything like pic related.

I just realized where I recognize Raku's VA from and it ruined the OVA for me
It's the fucking faggot from Kiss x Sis
>>115298426
>>115298310
is that the same artist who works on Etrian Odyssey?
I hope we get the parrot chapter animated.
>>115298611
hope you're mom animates this nuts tonite
It's already confirmed that Komi is going to add at least 2 new girls, but what type of girls? Yandere? Loli?
>>115298726
>It's already confirmed that Komi is going to add at least 2 new girls,
What? Where? What?
Goddammit.
>>115298768
Princess was added, dunno if she one of the "new girls" tho.
>>115298768
>One of the seven heroines of Bonyari
>One of the seven
We have Marika, Kosaki (both confirmed), Chitoge, Tsugumi and Yui (?).
>>115297459
I feel like when Kosaki does get an arc shit will seriously go down. Like maybe somebody (anybody) will finally get some progress.
>>115298055
Yabuki?
>>115299053
I don't think that Kosaki will get an arc to herself. It would inevitably draw in Chitoge.
Unless Komi breaks the formula enough to allow Raku and Kosaki to start dating. THAT would be interesting. But even then, there'd be a conflict with Raku still fake-dating Chitoge.
>>115295032
That reminds me of something.
>>115299131
Which would actually be really interesting...
>>115299265
It's the only way that Onodera could lose without it being complete bullshit. They try dating and it doesn't work.
>Haru arc
>Yui chapter
>New girl arc
>Tsugumi chapter
>Ruri chapter
>Marika chapter
Kosaki chapter is next right? RIGHT?
>>115295419
>>115297867
She's got the figure of a woman is all.
>>115297661
>>115299741
Her hair throws off the balance of that image.
Watch it for the girls. And only for the girls. Do you know how much filler is in the manga? Jesus even Akame ga Kill has more story than this. And the only story Akame ga Kill has is introducing chracters only for them be killed off. Nisekoi barely has any new characters anymore to compensate for the lack of story unless the harem grows larger again. But I'll still read it.
>>115299741
oh my
>>115299415
Kosaki chapter will be the True Good Ending.
>>115294145
Mah nigga.
>>115299741
How could you not love Tsugami?
>>115299741
>>115304129
>>115304356
this fucking show
>>115291108
It's cliche, but it's well-done.
>>115291108
Nisekoi is a generic harem executed well. There's nothing inherently wrong with harems since the goal is ultimately fanservice, but the fact of the matter is, most harems don't show enough respect to the genre.
The girls are more interesting than purely cut and paste archetypes, the protagonist isn't so undefined that it's a stretch for all the girls to like him, and there's the bare minimum requirement of narrative technique. It doesn't really do anything special, it just does everything a little better than what we have now.
So no OP, your taste ain't shit, Nisekoi is about as good as anyone can do at harem without bringing up the question of whether or not it's still harem.
>>115304746
Chitoge mom arc was great.
>>115305112
Superior harem coming through
An example of how cute the characters are, and how good the artist is at composing and framing a scene
>>115305758
pt. 2
>>115305758
>>115305856
His art really moves, it's a shame about Double Arts but you can see how his first try improved Nisekoi. Most harem manga just throw faces on pages and call it a day, but the panelling in Nisekoi is really great.
>>115293996
no.
>>115305758
>>115305856
Truly, Gorilla is the best girl
>>115295335
I like you, you've got good taste and you've seen through the shit encrusted filth that are Kosaki fans.
Have some Tsugumi
>>115305758
Chitoge is cute
Onodera is also a cute
>>115298055
Yabuki you glorious son of a bitch.
>>115306466
We didn't have enough Nisekoi threads before the anime debuted. This is prime reaction image material.
>>115299131
If Raku and Kosaki start dating at any point that isn't the ending then that's the death knell for Kosaki.
Not that she has any real chance in the first place but that'll just confirm it.
>>115306790
>If Raku and Kosaki start dating at any point that isn't the ending then that's the death knell for Kosaki.
>Not that she has any real chance in the first place but that'll just confirm it.
It has happened before. It will happen again.
It wasn't bad, but I dropped it because I couldn't stand Kosaki and even the slightest chance of her winning was making me mad. Other than that it's really well done.
>>115298069
artist looks like Robico? Looks similar to Tonari No Kaibutsu Kun's style with the facial structures and shading
>>115306846
Wait, in what manga/anime has the non-main girl won?
>>115307478
Imoutits was a non main girl.
>>115307478
I was saying the opposite, that the secondary heroine played by HanaKana is doomed.
>>115307478
Shuffle, altho everyone more or less had equal chances in that one
>>115292788
You know what? Me too. And I will keep reading th manga and look forward to the 2nd season
>>115307863
Im right there with you anon. I dropped it earlier out of boredom but just this week marathoned the whole manga.
Hana arc in S2.
Fuck yeah.
