They got bored of IM@S. How many times have you seen the nips throw away something they were obsessed with for something newer and shinier? It's happened countless times.

Keep in mind IM@S has been around since 2005. That was a pretty good run. It's possible the franchise will revive with Cinderella or a new game but it's not a sure thing. The movie really didn't help anyone.

There's this kid I know who was completely fucking obsessed with IM@S, all he did was link videos and fan art every day for years. He switched to LL once it got an anime and never says a word about IM@S.

LL is just the latest spark. I'd be surprised if it lasted as long as IM@S, but even if it does it'll fade away just like every other property. That kid doesn't even talk about LL much anymore. He's already moving on. LL really has nothing outside an anime and a few songs.

I don't see LL really staying long. It doesn't have anything for people to cling on to like IM@S did with its games.

I think if IM@S would've kept releasing game content rather than reselling the same shit it would've stayed longer. I also think Cinderella girls ultimate split the franchise up more than it added new fans.

We'll see what happens though with the new Cinderlla anime. Let's see how willing IM@S "fans" are to throw away their girls for something newer and shiner.

I like both series, just in different ways. im@s feels like it has a ton more depth to it, mostly because if you actually play the fucking games you get to a point where you know the girls personally.

Like, you literally need to know them well to get perfect communication scores with them, which are basically essential to survive the games in hard modes. You spend dozens/hundreds of hours with your girl(s); you are their guide and they are your plaything; you can tease them if you feel like it (i.e can afford to mess around) etc. For example I feel like I know Chihaya almost like a friend, whereas I know any of the Love Lives like I know other anime chars - just someone to dote over. Which is nice in its own way, but not the same feeling.

So basically what I'm saying is im@s is truly about the games. That is its main vehicle and probably will remain so. Love Live's main vehicle is the anime, so, naturally it does very well in this arena, however in overall revenue/sales etc I don't know if LL has truly overtaken im@s. It's the hot new thing is what it is, while im@s is just kind of there and hasn't changed a whole lot in 10 years. The upcoming ps4 game will be the true revitalization of im@s, way beyond the scope any anime for the franchise could accomplish, because it looks like they are starting to finally back off of 765 pro in favor of developing other teams. Which honestly is fine by me; the franchise needs fresh air.

It also really depends on what particular song you're listening to; some girls do very very well in some and not so good in others. Even mamiami chipmunk voices sound quite good in a few instances. Like LL, there is a large library of im@s songs outside the games (or later available as DLC), which have some of the best songs bar none, so you may not have ever heard some of the im@s girls at their best unless you went through these. For example the 8-bit im@s album alone sounds better than almost anything I have ever heard from LL.

Overall I like the construction/variety of im@s songs/vocals much more than LL, which sounds more prepackaged/tinny in most aspects. Mediocre voice in a superior song > good voice in a crap song imo. That is to say most LL voices are in fact mediocre too, which is why I can't even compare the two.
