Sadly it was a scene that shouldn't have happened if they weren't going to follow through with making Sousuke an asshole. It's very out of place in the story now and if it weren't for other writing hiccups in the season giving it a free pass since we all accept that the writing was flawed this season, taking every aspect of Sousuke's character arc literally would make him seem like he has some kind of dissociative psychological issue.

It's not that them being close is a problem, but the whole separation issue would seem non-existent in the end if it weren't for the interview. If they could afford to crush Sousuke's dream, it wouldn't seem too far fetched for at least a slight bittersweet note in the actual show that they will be spending less time together even if they are close and still meet up sometimes.

Honestly, the brattiest Haru ever openly acted was episode 8 of season 2 with the way he treated Kissme.
But Kissme was also invading his personal space so it's not like he had no right to flick his hand off or be somewhat annoyed. It's understandable actually.

Haru's internal monologue didn't entirely consist of that either. And the majority of it was directed at Rin, mainly because he felt competitive against him. He was conflicted between wanting to "win" against Rin and his usual feelings of just going with the flow and not caring about competing.
