I really can't stand male characters in anime so I'm torn over harems. If they don't focus on how much everyone wants some beta MCs cock then I can stomach or even enjoy them.

FACT: there are no such thing as a "bad genre" all genres were made for a specific purpose, have a assortment of good and bad titles to them, and once put into it's potential all genres balance out by having strengths another genre does not have to the point one judges an anime specifically with that potential in mind (you judge a romance by how romantic it is, etc.).

That being said, harem is the worst genre.

I dislike those too. It gets even worse if they try to do serious romance/drama and treat the other girls like shit.

Harem shit is what keeps anime and manga from becoming a respectable medium. At least video games are getting better, noticing that the can't go on with their objectification of womyn. It's about time the Japanese start to realise that womyn aren't a commodity but people too. This wish fulfilment has to come to an end. The betamax MCs in harem anime would never get gfs irl and the sooner the people here realise that the faster they can change their lives to the better. Maybe then they'd treat womyn with the respect they deserve and actually get somewhere in life. Also, then I wouldn't have to be ashamed any more that I like anime and people wouldn't look strange at me any more when I tell them that I like it. There's so much good stuff out there (Cowboy Bebop, Kill la Kill, Shingeki no Kyoujin, ...) yet it's not being given the recognition it deserves because all this harem shit is making critics ignore the medium.

Its fine in VNs because each girl has a route, but in anime usually they end with the MC just being a massive faggot.

There's a lot of shit but some are really good. A couple seasons ago I think the majority of the shows I was watching were harems and that's not a genre I seek out most of the time since I'm not a fan of the standard cliches of the genre.

Sort of this, I think. I'm pretty impartial towards harem(well, most of them I hated, but the genre is pretty okay.). How they play the character intereactions, how they become part of a harem, how do they solve the conflict of the harem itself and overall point of the harem itself will determine whether it is enjoyable or not. Don't know about objectively good, but if it's enjoyable, I don't even care.

Sort of the reason like Umi no Misaki as a harem.
