Too lazy to take a new picture. The only new stuff is the rest of the Haruhi and Book Girl volumes.
Fucking casuals. I have to hire assistants to organize mine.
This is from four years ago and was not everything in one place.
It's pretty sad. 6 volumes of watamote in moon runes for practice, code geass and a few others. I've got a good amount of mongo on my harddrive though.
I had no floor space to put them, was attempting to take proper photos of my media libraries for insurance and gave up halfway through. I still can't have it fully covered under basic homeowner's when it's all in one place.
Old Viz and Tokyopop were pretty good times for diverse libraries, regardless of the censorship and other bullshit of the time.
Last one, just to show off Sanctuary.
Got the full for in mint condition, about 30% off MSRP including shipping from some random French dude in Switzerland. Whole listing was in French, so nobody was bothering with it, but the ISBNs matched with Viz.
It's a go-to of mine. Also have a full run of Basara that I didn't pay out the ass for, I got the OOP v20 or 21 for free by emailing Viz, they sent me one they had lying around.
I really like historical manga, I need more of it in English.
I've bought three of those over the years, people just keep reading it until the spine gives out.
I shipped out a pallet of manga in cheese and fry boxes once, never got charged because they thought it was supposed to be frozen goods and they just wanted it gone from the yard.
>I shipped out a pallet of manga in cheese and fry boxes once, never got charged because they thought it was supposed to be frozen goods and they just wanted it gone from the yard.
That is hilarious and smart.
Can you guess which manga publisher I work for.
Don't work for dark horse but company has in the past. In general if shit doesn't sell then no point for publishers if we are losing money. I work for DMP and in general we try to license one-shots as they are less risk to publish.
Awesome, with all the hentai and yaoi we have to work on the Tezuka titles are a nice change of pace that everyone in the office likes. Right now I'm doing some work on Captain Ken and can't wait for it to be complete.
ROBOT was quite a bit before my time at the company but it was pretty much one of the reasons Wani hates us so I hear. Funny enough last week because we a have a number of extra copies of the first volume of ROBOT my boss gave me a copy and turns out it was signed by one of the artists.
Going to fan expo on Saturday so I will buy a lot more then
I wish there was some kind of kickstarter for reprints/rescues where people could put in orders. Except for books rather than dollars.
The first goal would be getting the thing to print. Stretch goals would reduce the price of everyone's items down towards the marginal cost rather than adding goodies.
And yeah, anyone getting to order any number of copies, being open to both retailers and end customers.
Looking forward to that one, it's the first Tezuka I've bought with no prior knowledge of it at all. Still waiting on The Crater from another Kickstarter, hope the biggest issue is just lots of delays.
Haven't bought any of the digital titles or the hentai yet, neither plunge is one I'm quite up to, though I do enjoy many of the series you have available.
There's no chance of Sweet Blue Flowers, Kimagure, or King of Extreme Cooking going physical, is there?
Not pictured is AoT 1-12, 4 volumes of Berserk, first Monster omnibus volume, and 2 volumes of Yotsuba.
No idea what to start getting once I get all of Berserk.
Sounds like an interesting idea, could try and talk with some coworkers about it. Bit ambitious though.
Yeah unfortunately there is no chance of our DMG titles becoming print as quoted from my boss.
But yeah prices are rather steep being a bit of an understatement in my opinion for the digital titles. The hentai we have been coming out with is some nice stuff, lots of cowtits in our catalog but we have started venturing into more unique genres. Some legal choices that have been made I disagree with but upper management makes their own decisions.
Long term goals into the future with Tezuka titles look bright. We are trying to space kickstarters accordingly so as to not fatigue people with them but the president really does want to see his whole library published.
>all of Berserk
Can anyone live long enough to pull that off?
I figured as much, no false hope was lost today.
>his whole library published
I like your president.
The one with all the eyes on the spine? That's Pluto, a reimagining by Urasawa of a great Astroboy storyline.
Well, yeah. I don't expect it to work without a rich madman at the helm.
There are plenty of details to fill in, but I see it as some manner of web shop where you put objects into your basket/wishlist/whatnot and you get the items when a production run is feasible. Then there's getting the extra customers who only want to jump in when the reprint gets a greenlight, who will reduce the costs for everyone else, I leave that to someone with ideas.
Didn't buy almost anything from last time (just first 3 Blame! Deluxe volumes, some regular series and started picking up PunPun), so no pic.
Saving money for the hell that next three months manly - here in Pastaland Lucca makes the last quarter of the year crowded to say the least.
>somebody hinted they're picking up Parasyte AGAIN
My boner knows no limits right now, even if it's (again) a small publisher.
A pile of these.
Though seriously I have a shelf of volumes, but after spending over $1000 in less than a month I stopped buying physical copies.
>flowers of evil
I'm enjoying that one, only two books in so far. Still not sure why the whole style of the covers changes so abruptly, but I assume there's a storyline reason for something so different. I hope there is at least, I get annoyed when a publisher changes the spine design halfway through by changing imprints - I think they do it on purpose.
Yeah bit unfortunate, I would like to see a lot of these titles in print but contractually we will only have digital rights for them and even then the rights aren't permanent. But it is nice that we are able get these title out at all.
>I like your president.
Yeah is a pretty nice old man who doesn't have much interest in the yaoi or hentai but with the oldies like Tezuka titles.
There quite a lot of pressure from those who want our yaoi reprinted. Every con or event where I am selling I always get the same questions about reprints and stories of how older out of print volumes are going for like $300 a book on ebay.
I do like the idea personally, it would be great as I am sure those that are willing to drop a ton of money on an old book could drop a similar to help a greater number of people get that same volume. An issue I do see is that a lot of manga publishers are contracting/losing money and aiming for newer titles rather than looking at the past and thinking about reprints.
Its been fun /a/nons, got to go to bed for work in the morning. Will check back later.
>a pretty nice old man who doesn't have much interest in the yaoi or hentai but with the oldies like Tezuka titles
I want to retire into something like that. I don't have the money to pull it off yet, but if I can't then I'll donate it all to a manga library foundation or something to get more modern and old classic stuff out.

I prolly forgot some but more or less that's it for now. I also gave my full series of Fullmetal Alchemist and InuYasha to my little sister and sold entire Dragon Ball-series and Ranma½.
Waiting for the next GA, Kuro and Haruhi-chan.
4koma needs more love.
>4koma needs more love.
At least you're getting something.
Here 4koma have never been published, comedy/sol is often ignored because doesn't sell enough while we keep getting dozens of generic battle shounen every month that people buy.
What's the point of having one of the biggest localized manga industry around when the variety is absimal and just keeps churning out more of the same?
It's fault of the shit taste of most of readers for the most part, but damnit publishers never even tried to propose something different.
Azumanga, Gunsmith Cats, Vinland Saga and whatever floats your boat.
Gunsmith Cats has a sequel called "Gunsmith Cats Burst" which should be taken with a beer, the last volume with hard liquor.
Not much new since the last thread except the ever-growing pile of Kiraras.
I'll have to get several more shelves when I get back from Japan, I wager.
No pictures (I know that people I know browse /a/) but a little over 200 TPBs, about 300 single issues back from the days before TPBs became the de facto standard, and roughly 28GB of scanlations (and I'm picky about what I save).
I have a few, not really much worth posting at the moment but I have a severe lack of space, my room is tiny and I'm really bad for hoarding other stuff. Maybe I should put my CD + DVD collections in storage.
Not a single one of you has a collection as impressive as this.
I don't buy physical copies of things very often so this is all I have. Please don't hate me /a/
My animu and mango run into each other.
Not pictured are the first 30 volumes of Bleach which I'm selling because Bleach is trash
Yotsubato is obvious, but I'm surprised hidamari is so popular. Isn't it the same sort of fanbase as Yuyushiki and Nichijou? I don't see those books nearly as often.
What e-ink tablet do you have?
I was considering buying one, but I saw in some videos that they have some kind of effect where the screen goes black and then changes whenever you do something.
Because that's ugly as hell, and it would be a big no-no.
Excuse the shitty photos. Thinking about grabbing 20th Century Boys, Rurouni Kenshin and Aku no Hana next.
How's Knights of Sidonia? Been thinking of buying it once I finish off my Trigun Maximum collection.
Only posting my RAWS at the moment.
Oyasumi Punpun volume 1
Arakawa Under the Bridge volumes 1-6
Strike Witches: Witches of Africa light novel volume 1
The World God Only Knows volumes 3,4,5,11 and 15.
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Phantom Blood: Volumes 1 and 2.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes novel 4
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei volumes 6, 10, 11, 16 and 17.
English release is omnibus format so it has less volumes but the same content
Depends where you live, in the US Kinokuniya and Yesasia offer free shipping depending on how much you spend
The manga isn't as badly overpriced as it used to be, if you buy artbooks just use Amazon JP for the flat rate.
This seems like the right thread so I need to ask something. I'm too dumb/drunk to make my own thread.
I ordered some things from j-list for the first time and payed for premium shipping. According to the order it should be 5-6 days business. It's been five days business and according to the tracker it hasn't even fucking left Japan.
Is the tracking incorrect or is it really going to take that long? I want my fucking games and manga dammit.
Do you use japan's or your nation's postal service's tracker?
Unless it's EMS (your parcel's ID starts with EM or somesuch) or other fast service (e,g, DHL), it can take eternities.
It's EMS, and I'm tracking it through USPS.
I may have ordered some "sensitive" merchandise. Does it come packaged discreetly?
The bamboo pillow wasn't all I got after a five hour bender.
I'm impressed with the number of people who have original Japanese language volumes in their collection but how many of you can actually read Japanese? Do you buy them to read? to collect? to support the author/series? Or all three. I have the entire original release of Sailor Moon and Cardcapor Sakura in Japanese but only have them to collect since I can't read them.
True, and they may take much better care of my order than the thug mail carriers here in the states. I just wish I knew where it was and what's going on. I've sent things internationally but almost never had things sent to me.
Everything usually goes very smoothly when sent to Japan. Not so much in other countries.
Not just manga but whatever.
>Do you buy them to read? to collect? to support the author/series? Or all three
All three by now, but when I started buying I couldn't read properly so they were also a motivation to actually put some effort into studying Japanese.
I don't collect manga that much, but the only thing I could salvage from the termites is this
Probably should take new ones, but I can't be bothered
please teach me what you do to get the amount of money needed to buy everything
i see that soredemo in the back.mah nigga. i have up to vol 4.
Mango published in english is fucking expensive man
ive been on the hunt for all the volumes. im jealous.
ugh. why most of the time rude people are also the stupid ones?
Yes, i do know you get money by working, even a kid would know that.
I was expecting an answer related to what you do, what kind of job you have. not something especific, you could just throw any generic info, but not as generic as "working".
Also, I won't even focus on your elitist view point that thinks only by working someone could have a considerable amount of extra money to buy all this manga collection.
same here. i would like to have it in english as well.
I'm the anon you asked the question with updated photo to prove it.
Anyway it's real simple.
>Have a decent paying job (it's nothing glamorous)
>Live with parents so don't have to deal to most of living expenses
>Don't go to a lot of social events that require using too much money
>Use pay to buy shit ton of mango and animu from japan
>Is the NGE manga a good read?
I found it even better than the anime in some parts, namely cutting superfluous stuff and exposing better some key points of the plot (like how the fuck Adam appeared on Gendo's hand).
Plot-wise, follows the TV serie up to ep 24, the EoE up to Sea of Life scene, then gose on it's own (not yet completed) ending.
>mfw here in Italy the first 3 volumes have been published in 2012, then nothing more because the publisher had to put on hold every single serie it had (including: Noragami, I am an Hero, Jormungand/Franken Fran not even started, and more) because god knows what they fucked up
>still nothing more
I wish i could nuke those GP Manga faggots.
tfw there are no mango stores in my country and I can't buy them.
Stop reminding me, goddamnit.
(Pastafag reporting in)
>I don't know nothing about manga published here.
I can't really say "You're missing out", because Italian manga publishing have some big faults, but at least when comes down to sheer amount of volumes/series the only competing market among western countries is France (which is slightly better for /a/ - and my - standards due to which series are published).
Obviously there are ups and downs and you have to be wary of what you're doing, but overall is a quite good.
This is about 1/2 to 2/3 of my collection. Need to get another book case and get around to sorting them after moving.
On another note, what all are you guys doing to get stuff online anymore? I had been using some forum and mangatraders but that got fucked over. Started using FMD to rip Batoto but it's broken atm after Batoto changed domains. I really don't want to have to irc everything from group bots like in the old days again.
> I really don't want to have to irc everything from group bots like in the old days again.
We party like it's 1999 anon.
Pray to god for forgiveness.
I used to browse #lurk and all that shit on Rizon ages ago. Makes me feel old remembering it.
I could always use an android app to rip batoto again but then I'd have to xfer to my pc to read it in big portrait screen glory.
Also Batoto doesn't allow upload of most of the lewd stuff so I have to obtain that from scanslator sites and shit.
Dark times brother.
>On another note, what all are you guys doing to get stuff online anymore?
I found Kissmanga to be a decent alternative to Batoto when setting up Fmd ripping.
But that's only for stuff not on the ftp.
It bothers me too but most of the stuff on those shelves is stuff I've already read so it isn't a terribly big deal and it will take forever to sort it all. I should bring a laptop into that closet and watch some standup or something and sort them later. That doesn't even include the other shelf with is only 3 teirs and overflowing with stuff stacked in front because I need more space.
At work so no pics but I only have Keroro Gunsou/Sgt. Frog 1-21 (rip Tokyopop, hope someone else picks it up for print again) and Gundam the Origin 1-6 (vol 7 in under a month, Battle of Loum hype, niggas)
I have that series as well as Angelic days and I think another NGE alternate series. I really need to get around to reading them, and as soon as I do end up buying the rest of them. I'm pretty sure I already own all of Angelic days, but I only read the first few volumes.
Mah Nigga. I'm actually meaning to expand my collection of Keroro Gunso. It's one of my favorite comedy series that never fails to cheer me up. Same with Ginatama.
Here's my collection, most of my missing stuff for Angel Sanctuary and Death Note is because they are being borrowed at the moment. I still have to do some digging and dusting in my room.
Got some Children of the Sea coming in the mail.
Free DVD shelves from craigslist make the best mango shelves.
That depends on where you live and what language you want.
Bookdepository ships to the entire civilized world, but in english and to some extent spanish.
If you live in America or Europa, there's plenty more choices.
How very hispanic of you.
Fyi you can lay down the last few on the end or a small series so they act as a stopper to hold the rest of the stack up. For example you could lay the Hidmari's down side ways.
On another note I own an original print copy of the US hidamari vol4 or whichever one it was that cost like $90 for awhile because it was so rare. Too bad they reprinted it, though its good for the bros that missed out on it.
This. But they often run out of 1st tomes and for older stuff is a pain in the ass getting the full manga. My dad used to get his stuff there but he didin't complete any of the mangas he was collecting. Maybe DNA2 only
Personal preference. When I look at the shelf I think of each series as a giant book and shit would be out of order in my head since they go right to left instead of left to right.
Yes I know this sounds autistic
I thought so. It's basically the game but with some other random twists. It introduces a new random villain, but I mainly got it because you get to see Haseo, Endrance and Atoli in their real life/outside game selves. I got mine for $4 each, so it was worth it for me.
As much as knowing they could have saved the franchise with a reprint of some early volume.
I got 1-3 and 5-14 of Ichigo 100% for cheap on a blowout sale. I reckon every additional v4 could have created 5-10 additional sales.
I was buying Rave Master as it came out. I own like 40 something volumes of it.
And then there was what, 2 or 3 volumes left? And then Tokyo Pop went under. That huge ass collection will never be correctly finished.
What's worse is that with each manga I didn't get to complete I don't get gratification for having them all and make me doubt about getting another series. Shit like that is going to doom manga outside japan if not adressed
Man, I love bookdepository, but fuck them. Sometimes they have ridiculos prices.
How about awesome covers?
Post them if you have it
I fucking hate how theres so much attack on titan shit IN ENGLISH. I went to my local bookstore today and all I saw was
Attack on titan- no regrets
Attack on titan- Colossal edition
Attack on titan- Before the fall
Attack on titan- some freaking high school version
and obviously the original one.
Oh well, at least Noragami is coming out in like 3 days which makes me really happy
>Kagerou days Manga and LN getting localized
Ehh, only pic I could find in my phone
I've got all of them now
>mfw I started my collection when I still had pleb tier entry level taste
I hate almost most of my collection
What a faggot. Learn to love and understand your past shit taste, for that was the shit you liked then.
I used to loathe all that stupid harem anime I so enjoyed to watch in early 00's but now I've thinking it had it charm
Only manga's I own currently(going to get vol 13&14 soon) I'm soon going to get paperbacks of OnePunchMan, Jojo and Dragonball. So any recommendations for any good manga's?
>mfw 150ish volumes between OP, Bleach and Naruto (dropped all of them around 50th volume mark)
And i got rid of a hundred volumes or so of other terrible shit already.
I want to go back in time and slap my old newfag self.
I might keep OP though.
Just a collector thing really, i really like the drawings for it
I have some really shitty series that I very much regret buying.
They're comfier to read than computerised displays. I find computers (which e-readers ultimately are) distracting and wish to rid myself of them when I go to sleep.
Then they cater to my stone-age lust for owning real things. I like turning real pages and using real bookmarks and ironing out pages that got fucked up in shipping. They also impress people, whether weeaboos, comics nerds or not, files barely impress anybody.
And finally, what happens if society decides to go bellyup? Books don't require electricity or Internets.
Or work on your Italian skills.
Jojolion 5 when?
I have JoJo too but can't be bothered getting them all in a picture.
I got them just to support the series. I don't even read paper manga because it is way more convenient on a tablet.
Pretty much run out of space now, which is a shame since I have a lot more I want.
It looks like I'll never finish Mirai Nikki though.
The Hidamari fanbase has been through most things imaginable. From nosubs to "Sunshine Sketch" to terribad DVDs (even for license DVDs) to gorespam to a core seiyuu catching japanese cold to getting a publisher to reprint a moe 4koma. While in some sort of a slump at the moment, the old fans are pretty hardened and willing to pay up for their wide fix. Younger fans follow their example because of the wish to belong.
Yotsuba and Hidamari Sketch have english releases.
Nichijou has a partial finnish release.
Yuyushiki is only in japanese.
Not him but I own like 10 something volumes of it. I enjoy it quite a bit. Art is nice, they are split into the different arcs and labeled as such and in general seem higher quality and consistent compared to the animes. Never played the VN though, that art man.
VN > Manga > Anime
VN is still superior but if you can't handle the art (or can't get the PS2 sprites for some reason) the manga is your best bet. Same for Umineko.
Solid Tezuka manga, definitely worth having it in your collection.
Update: I got manga from Based Rebis
I Really like the series
http://www.kinokuniya.com/us/ you have to select Japanese books then copy and paste the kanji title of the book in the search area
Everyone so far has shit taste, This is all i have and all I need
I'm looking for bigger shelves so I can start buying myself. Almost everything I have was given to me from a friend who was selling all his books. Anyone know of any good shelves, or should I just buy some cheap one in a thrift store?
I've never seen anything Bleach related till now, and it's actually pretty good I must admit
Very old photo, i haven't bought anything mango related anyway.
I'm trying to pick up some of their old titles now, the translations are kind of awkward in some of them but they had a couple really good titles. They should have advertised the award winning ones more or something.
Hey, it's the artbook CD anon.
A lot of things that won awards sold like shit, sadly. My favourite manga won an award in Japan and then all 20 volumes combined sold under 200 copies or something atrocious in English. Different market, not much you can do about it.
Oh man, DMP you used to be the only faggotry shop in town, after Blu (TP) and co sunk. I tried so hard to support you as best as I could, but you only release utter shit oneshots and have stopped part way through actual series too often. I can't bring myself to buy anything you put out any more.
I'm missing volume six, which last I saw was around $50 used. I can't bring myself to pay that for one book, it's the principle of the thing. I had them all at once point, but used to lend books to people left and right and somehow that one never got back to me.
I really wish there were more fans, and I was tempted to scan it for /a/ but now the company is selling it digitally and I don't want to mess with the sales. Not that anyone would buy it I suppose, there's clearly evidence to support that. The lack of scanlations means no one to talk about it with though.
Its real awesome, we got some pretty good relations with the Japanese publisher so we have quite a number of Tezuka titles in production.
It's understandable anon, publishing oneshots is a very safe thing for small publishers as the yaoi oneshots was our primary source of income for a while. Publishing series are quite a bigger hassle as they come with their own issues. We personally don't print all too many of our books in comparison to bigger manga publishers so stock usually lasts a few months. When I've sold at cons if I didn't have a volume 1 I could be sure the other volumes would sell like shit.
We have started publishing hentai under our project-h imprint. A lot of hentai series that I have hoped we would publish have been shot down as they were a series. In recent memory we had a chance to grab Aki Sora but it wasn't going to happen for a few reasons, being a series was one of them.
Kinda regret buying a lot of shit but still like what I got.
It might come up somewhere for a decent price someday. I actually just randomly checked Abebooks for a copy of After School Nightmare 8 the other day and there was a library copy for $5 when most of them were only available for $20+ before. Felt good to finally be able to complete it.
My biggest problem with DMP/June is what they license is just, well, it's shit. I also have the first couple volumes of a lot of things they just stopped publishing with only a volume or two to go, or they waited years between book releases and as a result the volumes are two completely different sizes because they switched over to smaller volumes. The proofreading on the LNs, especially the early ones was non-existent. I even have a couple titles where none of the pages are in order.
I bought, and kept track of titles, from DMP for a long time. I want to say since 2003 or 2004. I kept buying understanding they were a smaller company that doesn't have the resources to do a lot, with the hope they would grow and improve. They just kept getting worse though, and I started to feel guilty supporting them. I wanted to love DMP, I did. I still have over 600 volumes of their manga but it just wasn't worth it. I hope they are a better company to work for than they are to be a customer for.
FUCK YEAH ,Berserk !
Jap ones are worth it anon, they might change the spines for English ones like they usually do and jap manga is superior, I'm still getting English release because AgK #1 though.
What program do you guys recommend for reading manga? I'm going to stop buying physical copies, too expensive.
Think only copies we have at the office are office copies so can't.
Yeah a lot of the old issues were before my time. From what I gather with a lot of the inconsistencies were because of changes in where the books were printed. I also do have a sort of idea where a lot of these issues came from. A lot of staff have started as unpaid interns that may have gotten paid after a period of time then hired but a lot of interns do leave after certain period of time and employee turnover is rather high. I personally started out as an unpaid intern for a little while.
I do believe more recent titles qc has improved minus the DMG stuff which is outsourced to freelance individuals and their work is so-so at times and incorrect at other times.
theres some lame stuff because most of it accumulated when i was 10-13
anybody read who fighter?
>mfw i've only read like 1/3 of these books and can barely read niggahingo
Beginner collector here.
Sadly, I have a very small collection and I don't really know what to get a lot of the times when I go to barnes and nobles.
I recently found out that Otoyomegatari had an english release I plan on picking that up some time.
Also, is it possible to get any of the individual volumes for Azumanga? I'm not really fond of the big omnibus.
We all started with a small collection at some point. I remember buying my first 3 volumes of 20th Century Boys a little over a year ago. I actually want to pick up Monster Musume, but I have other things I want to get more as of now.
Sadly, a lot of the manga I want don't have english releases. I'd totally buy all the prison school volumes or Dumpire and friends.
Also, to the people that own it, how is Seven Deadly Sins? Found out it was by the guy who did Kongou banchou and I enjoyed that a lot.
Some of the manga I really want is out of print, Planetes and Mushishi being some examples. However there's so much I want localized that I know never will so I understand your pain.
Have you checked Amazon?
They seem to have it.
The DelRey?Kodansha thing happened and School Rumble got axed at #16.
Hidamari Sketch? Yeah.
Get Berserk if you spot volume 1, and maybe up to 5-10ish. They'll be hard to find for a while.
Just sorted this shit out. As I feared I need another shelf. No space for the Black Lagoons, or a bunch of S's and T's, plus I have another stack of stuff that isn't sorted into it which will require shifting stuff.
Should try taking a picture but its 4am, lighting will be shit.

I can't really recommend much else
But shouldn't the price be the same for all the volumes?
As far as I understand it, they throw the shipping in the price you'd pay, so why is one volume half the price of the other?
Do you know, by any chance, if using a proxy would lower the price? I'd guess so, considering they show you the full price before introducing your address.
Because that should be stupidly easy to exploit if it's like that.
Tfw you started your collection as a total pleb and now you're not proud of it at all.
I'm also missing Fairy Tail Vol.1, the first two volumes of Death Note and the BB LN, because a friend borrowed them.
They haven't fallen for uhhh... 8 years I think. That's how long they're in use.
Pretty fucking late to the party but whatever.
You exaggerate, my dear anon.
These are books in a box. It's the Kodansha boxed book line, called "kodansha box", so yeah. slightly better paper, a box to keep the book in, bit more expensive. That's about it.
I hate one thing. Most library shelves are so bloody high it's ridiculous. The number of shelves could be doubled and all the books would still fit perfectly height-wise. Dammit.

Was going to recommend Ichiroh, Suzunari and SS Astro but I see you have them too.
I really wish they did more series. Perfect stuff for reading quick sections here and there.
I haven't bought the K-ons or kill me baby, how are they? The animes were pretty good and KMB might be a good 4koma, but idk about kon.
The anime improves on the K-ON manga. However, if I had neither and $100 to spare, I'd buy the manga for the sake of 4koma. I wish I was into social media so I could constantly bug Yenpress over Twitter.
As for Kill Me Baby, it's just the anime in paper form. I only bought it because my finnish is slightly better than my japanese, and I don't have to spend years learn runes. The same publisher also has Nichijou.
I never bought an english translation of mangas but where every french editions have this little plastic/papers cover which you can get off,no idea how it's called.
What's up with most american editions not having one?
Get some classic manly manga to compensate for that flavor-of-the-month girlstuff.
The dust cover? Probably to save a couple of cents. I have no idea why beyond that.
Some american stuff does have it but its rather rare for them to do so. I would imagine it is 100% the companies being cheapskates.
I honestly still don't understand why a lot of them are rather low quality print with very high prices. They are sort of killing the industry themselves.
I sort of fell off buying manga after I got out of college since I have no local bookstore to get stuff from and amazon ordered stuff tends to get damaged. If prices were better I'd be more inclined to keep buying shit, but when you arleady have $1000's worth of it taking up space its hard to justify buying more. I did my time to support the industry, alot of which went to tokyo pop just to get itself killed when I had ongoing series i was waiting on.
Pastafag here, and save from those couple of Dynit/PlanetManga things (which are sold in various European countries, the latter has quite few series in Germany iirc), that doesn't look much like and Italian collection (format, few series unpublished here, other publishers).
I understand the extra couple of dollars for an extra-narrow niche series that'll ony get the minimum print run. But skimping on the paper is pretty silly in those cases. The difference in paper costs should only be a few cents unless you go full toilet paper. The big costs should be licensing, printing and getting rid of printed copies.
In the end I honestly don't understand why US manga is so much more expensive than various european languages. English caters to some half billion potential customers, Finnish five million at most, one volume of manga is $3-4 cheaper in finnish, after all sorts of crazy taxation.
Watch out for the format though, it can alter the prices a lot.
Here in Italy "normal" manga volumes have always been cheaper (4 to 7 euros on average, depending on format/publisher/date - as they've grown at least 1 euro more expensive over the latest years) than most western counterparts.
But when comparing my volumes with the ones o
