I bought overgrowth yesterday and this today. Had slight buyer's remorse over overgrowth and none about this for whatever that's worth. It's got some missions, I think around 15 since I'm on 5 and the game says I'm 66% of the way one campaign and 33% overall. It's fun. Pretty cheap too. Sky Girls is more mechs than planes.
Strike Witches is literally Upotte! for planes, but it is very subtle.

I doubt even an average plane otaku could figure out which girl flies which plane.

Bonus points if you figured out each girl's WW2 ace flies the plane each girl's boosters represent.

I've been playing it, hopping back and forth between it and Infinity, and I've had no trouble adapting. I've gotten to the point where i can speedrun the windy canyon mission with no trouble.

AC04 has its own flight stick. It's JP onry.
AC5 introduced the AC Flight Stick 2, which supposedly works across the entire PS2 trilogy.
AC6 has the Ace Edge, which is essentially the same base controller as the Flight Stick 2 (that is, a Saitek X45 HOTAS shell), but for 360.

Also Sony had a twin stick thing for the PSX that worked with AC2 and AC3 among a bunch of other games.

And this is why i'll never enjoy it. I've been spoiled by ace combat, where the planes are perfectly responsive and don't have any kind of stabilizers whatsoever. My main grip with AFDS is that it tries to keep your plane straight.
